But Allen has a tendency to take off a lot more often than he actually needs to, even when he has guys open and/or not under pressure. I think that is a reasonable criticism actually. It just isn't the only problem. There is a sweet spot in the middle here where the truth lies.
Isn't this probably because he doesn't trust his line? You "feel" the pressure a lot more when you're used to the defense getting home fast.

The lack of investment in the offense is why Allen has to play like Superman every game. It's very obvious why Josh puts the team on his back, because the offense was Diggs and Allen doing superhuman stuff. Almost everyone else was a JAG.

I tend to agree, even if it’s not Hopkins. For example, the Commanders are a mess (no QB, projected less than $3 million in cap space). I would trade our first in a low quality draft class for Terry McLaurin who has a very manageable $2 million salary this year. He will just turn 28 when the season starts so best years are ahead. McDermott also has a relationship with Ron Rivera despite what happened with McKissic. But we really need a WR2 and trying to find one in the draft seems like a big risk. Beane has done it once before with Diggs, let’s hope he can pull off one more big trade to get Josh a second weapon.
I love drafting a WR, but I don't love it for helping us right now, this year.
McD doesn't get rookies involved on offense. Even if we got McLaurin (love that idea) or Hopkins or OBJ, I still want the Bills to invest in a early round WR.- 1

The Bills need a significant signing at WR. Beane overvalues his draft choices and picks. Gabe Davis is not a 1B or #2 WR.
We have the best QB in the division and the 3rd best WR room. Invest in your superstar Beane. Get it done.

Sal just said on WGR, that at the owners meetings KC is being talked about more than anyone else for Hopkins.
If the Bills let Hopkins go to the Chiefs then it's a failure of Bills' front office.
The Bills should be in for any trade that the Chiefs are interested in.

Yes, Lamar, this is what potential teams want.
A QB with no agent that airs it all out on Twitter. That'll definitely increase your value.

Come on Beane. Get us to the promised land.

If this is still going to happen, the holdup is probably finding someplace to send Oliver or Basham for a not-embarrassing low rate of return.
Hey, I got the 100-page post without even trying.
Honestly, Oliver is fine, but you can get very similar production for much cheaper. I'd just take whatever you can get.
If that's the holdup, it's Beane overvaluing his high draft pick. It didn't work out, he's not the game wrecker we wanted him to be, and that's okay. Just move on.

I'm not saying they shouldn't do it, just that its a ridiculous contention that they're going to win a SB because they added a WR to run routes behind a porous OLine
That's fair. I do think McGovern is an upgrade from Saffold, but you're right in that I'd like to see them do more (cough cough Spencer Brown).

You do understand that you could put Randy Moss and Calvin Johnson out there and it doesn't mean jack spit if you're QB is getting swarmed before he even hits his drop?
I didn't think so....
Please correct me if I'm wrong but there's no O-Lineman of Hopkins' status available for a trade, much less a presumable cheap-ish trade.
Just because you have deficiencies in one position group doesn't mean you shouldn't take a golden opportunity to massively increase another.

Me watching Beane raise the blood pressure of all of Erie County.

No. There’s plenty of good to great WRs currently in the league drafted after round 1
Yes, but the further and further you get out of round 1 the less and less certain it becomes that you can get a contributor that will make a splash now.
The window is now and the division has gotten better and better.

Then it will be weeks of crying and moaning about how Beane doesn’t want to win blah blah
For me it'll be more about how Beane overvalues and overestimates the players he currently has in the building.
If you don't shore up the WR room, the conversation to the draft basically becomes "Well we have to grab a WR round 1, right?"

Agholor is so strange- he was meh in Philly, then he was dam good for the raiders the year before he went to NE to fall off a cliff.
All he really excels at is running go routes. There's a place for that in an offense but he shouldn't be your #2 guy.
(Wait, am I still talking about Agholor or did I start talking about Gabe Davis?)

Ravens sign WR Agholor
That'll get Jackson to sign for sure.
Ravens and dumpster diving for WRs, name a more iconic duo.

This really isn't an update at all. And as far as "salary dumps" go, this is a very high quality player, make it happen Beane. Wanna be the best? You need superstars, not just solid guys.

Yeah the only way we could take on the whole cap hit is if we trade Oliver. There was a report earlier in the offseason that Hopkins would be willing to be flexible with his contract on his new team. If true I'm sure we can make it work, just a matter of working out the details.
Might be a 3-way-trade. Oliver to Chicago for a mid-late round pick, Buffalo uses that pick to give to Arizona for Hopkins.

I don’t want Jordan Phillips for anything more than the minimum. Dude can OT be counted on to be healthy. Ever
I understand this sentiment, but he's also built for this scheme. He excels in this system when healthy. Personally, I'd like to see him back, but obviously the cheaper the better.
-
I'm just gonna say this:
At this point, if Hopkins goes to another team for a reasonable price it's going to be a major condemnation of Beane. Say what you will about resource management, the offense needs another star caliber player, badly.

I think you're all probably safe to go to bed now. If they're gonna sign him it won't be until tomorrow.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

I don't understand why. Is it a sunk cost fallacy?
He's objectively bad according to every independent metric. What's the harm in giving him some real competition at the position?
