No, I was adding more to further the point.  And winning a SB is what matters, so pretty sure not winning that one game is kind of a big deal ;)

You added a lot of very successful teams with elite WRs and then proceeded to essentially argue that the position is overvalued. I don't see how that makes sense.

Regardless, I think the position is worth paying for unless you go the KC-style route and just keep reinvesting high draft picks into the WR room.

Huh?  Miami's QB was an MVP candidate and still couldn't win the division with both Hill and Waddle and a 4 game lead last in the season.  Eagles had their MVP candidate QB too and didn't get the job done yet with both AJ Brown and Smith.  Cincy has Burrow and didn't get the job done with both Chase and Higgins.  Dallas has Dak who has been one of the most prolific passers statistically in the NFL who had Cooper and Lamb.

So...yeah...your counter point makes no sense considering Dallas, SF, Mia, and Phi all had QB's who have been MVP candidates.  Chargers had Allen and Williams with Herbert and can't even make the playoffs.

Anyone who actually watching Tua play knows that he is not the elite QB the stats were making him out to be.

You didn't mention the Eagles or Cincy, but they both got to a superbowl with elite WR talent, just because they didn't win one game doesn't mean it's not a sound strategy.

I said Dallas was an exception. You're just adding random teams after the fact.

Does it though?  As I have shown before, teams keep investing tons in WR's and haven't seen the payoff.  Look at arguably the best WR in the game in Hill...Miami can't even when their division with him and a 4 game lead late in the season with Waddle, Archane, and Mostert too.  Adams didn't do anything for Raiders.  Diggs didn't help the Bills do anything other than lose 3 straight years in the 2nd round.  Minnesota had both Diggs and Theilen and didn't get over the hump.  Dallas had both Cooper and Lamb and won less than we did.  Niners didn't get it done with both Aiyuk and Deebo, plus they had Kittle and CMC too.

People always say this about WR, but we are not seeing this translate on the field like people assume it does.

All of those with the exception of Dallas and maybe SF put the cart before the horse though, they were trying to make up subpar QB play with star WRs.

It doesn't matter how good your WR are if you can't consistently get the ball to them.

It's also something you can do when your QB isn't costing you $30-40M on the cap.

Totally, the QB cap hit is a massive roadblock, but if you're investing in your QB then you need to also invest in the weapons around him. Either with high draft picks every year (in the hopes you land a top 10-15 WR), or with a big contract veteran.

I'm cool with it, but I'm going to just keep screaming this into the void: Double up on WR.

The hit rate is not high, hedge your bets and take 2 high WR prospects if you're not moving up for one of the "sure things".

waiting on the autopsy to confirm CTE and possible outcomes to the sport as a result.

Nothing will happen to the sport.

We already have overwhelming evidence that CTE effects impulse control, mood, and behavior.  Hell, we already have a confirmed killer (Aaron Hernandez) with CTE and it's changed very little.

I love football, I have no regrets playing it, I don't want my kid playing it though.

I mean, that's possible, and I could be mis-remembering but it seemed as though when we tried to use him in McKenzie's sweep/reverse or in the screen role, they squibbed.

If you look up his game logs, you kind of see that - he was getting 20-25% of the snaps in the first 7 weeks, then (IIRC) McDermott said something in the press about "we're going into week [whatever], we ought to know what guys can do by now" and his usage dropped sharply to single-digit snaps, where it stayed for all but 2 games.  He missed Week 12 but wasn't on the injury report.

But was Harty part of that speed as a WR?

We had Diggs.  We had Davis,  We had Shakir.  We had Kincaid.  We had Knox.

Who did you want to see come off the field more, to make room for Harty?

Davis had multiple games with a 0 statline.

    Knox had a hand injury.

If you're going to invest in the bottom of your WR rooms, then you should use them, otherwise just go get some UDFAs or Vet minimum players.

  7. It's too bad we could figure out a use for him here. Dorsey was horrible.

Beane gave him all sorts of speed but all we could do is force feed Diggs and have Davis run the wrong option route constantly.

I really hope Brady can be simpler but spread the ball around more, and actually use players to their strengths. Everything looked so much easier under Daboll.

Trade back with any of the QB needy teams at the top of round 2 so they can draft Penix and then pick at 34-36 and then trade up again to around 38-40 and double dip at WR. You can likely have any 2 of Worthy, Franklin, Leggette, McConkey, etc

That's the play if you don't have any first round graded WRs left on your board, sure, otherwise I think you have to go with that 1st round graded WR given the Bills situation.

Terrible combine unless you believe that he was sick. Reminds me of the bad singers on American Idol that say their throat hurts. Also seems to go down really easily. I don't think he's worth 28. He'd be good value at 60 but unlikely to be there.

Considering he did a private workout for the Bills I wouldn't be too worried about his combine numbers if the Bills drafted him.

I wouldn't be happy with him at 28 either though. I've said this a few times, but I like the idea of taking best receiver available at 28 (AD Mitchell or BJT if we're lucky, etc...) and then moving up a little in the second and getting McConkey / Franklin / Polk.

Me too. I wonder if we could get a 3rd for him.

    You'll get a 6th and you'll like it.

    He has zero value.

You might be able to straight up trade him for Treylon Burks or some other player who hasn't panned out for another team, but that's pretty much it.

Haha. My thoughts too! 39% and 18% chances respectively. Screw it. Let's just draft a Safety at #28 and DT at #60.

I'm not going to run the numbers, but my gut tells me the hit rates for those positions are probably similar.

The draft is a crapshoot that we pretend to a genuine understanding of.  There are way fewer "sure things" then there are players.

  12. WR is arguably the 2nd most important position in Football.  If you're not moving up, I think double dipping becomes necessary. You might even want a 3rd later round guy for bottom of the roster competition.

I get that there are other holes like DT, Safety, EDGE but we actually have serviceable players right now in those positions, which is just not the case at WR.

He sucked last year - plain and simple.  Injuries definitely played a part - he tried to play with a broken wrist for a few weeks.

At the same time, he was actually pretty solid the previous 2 seasons so I'm not worried that he's "lost a step".  He's always had issues with drops so thats probably never going away, but the guy can play and he's probably our best redzone weapon at this point.  If we're going to play a more physical brand of football with him and kincaid as pass catchers, you can do a LOT worse at TE2.

I think the drops can be mitigated. He's basically 2-3 years behind his contemporaries because of injuries and the fact that he was never used as a pass catcher in college. He's an athlete though and a stellar red zone target, and I think you're right, we can do much worse as TE2.

  14. I'm way higher on Knox than most people on this board, and I think he's gotten a bit of a bum rap because of injuries and the fact that he constantly needed to assist the subpar O-Line with blocking. I think he's a good player with a lot of upside and a contract that he hasn't lived up to, but I don't know that it's 100% his fault.

I don't think Knox is a gadget guy, but I do like the idea of being even more creative in the playcalling.
