I, for one, will not miss WR screens to Diggs where he stutter steps backwards for no reason and gains 3 yards.

I didn't understand those play calls either.  They felt like they were designed for someone else.  You should not throw a WR screen to a WR who doesn't like taking hits.

  2. I think Shakir is an elite roleplayer and the production he got is indicative of the coverage talent he faces. That's not a dig at Shakir, I think he's going to be a high end slot WR3 guy, someone like Tyler Boyd, although stylistically they're not really the same.

This is the same as Gabe Davis, who was promoted too far in the lineup.  You want these types of players as #3s, not 2s or 1.

I'd love to be wrong though.

I enjoyed Diggs' time here but am glad he's gone.  It's been a while in coming.  Thanks for posting, this story doesn't surprise me.

I think Diggs wants to win and probably realizes his career is getting closer to winding down.  I think he took it on himself to challenge Josh on his bad habits and probably got tired of it against Cinci and perhaps also sick of McD.  Last season everyone, especially Josh,  got sick of Diggs' approach.  I definitely felt Josh was ignoring Diggs on the field when his stats were tanking.

I love Josh but let's be real, he's very stubborn as a QB.  Doesn't always go through all his reads preferring to force the ball and God help him he throws the wide open check-down.  Obviously he's proven capable in certain games during Dorsey's time when they tried to force him to be more of a pocket QB.  But he chooses not to see the entire field regularly.

What worries me the most from this story and situation is maybe no one's holding Josh accountable anymore, not even Josh himself.  That may be the biggest window closure to the Super Bowl.

This is a ridiculously melodramatic take with almost nothing backing it up.

  4. I really don't like the idea of losing this year's second round pick, but I'm okay with moving up for a top WR talent.

Would rather they hold on to 60 personally and move up to the teens and get a possible falling Odunze or Thomas Jr.

Nabers looks to be the real deal but there’s a lot of talent in this draft that would even allow you to double dip if you can hang on to 60. They likely wont, but you never know.

That’s actually a reasonable stance and I can’t go against the logic you’ve displayed here.

Double dipping is where I'm at too. I think it makes more sense.  Give me a AD Mitchell and Franklin/Legette/Polk/McConkey. You've got so much talent then.

If they do move up, I want to see them go get a low-risk high reward FA like Thomas.

La'el Collins is to OT as Rodger Saffold is to OG.  Let's hope we can get 1/2 season out of him before the bottom just falls out like Saffold.  Could be good depth.

I doubt Collins is being brought in to compete for OT.  He's competition for LG and possibly the swing role.

We get Nabers and keep pick 60?   SEND IT.

Chris Trapasso said on WGR yesterday that he thinks packaging our 1st & next years 1st & the Vikings 2nd should be enough to move us to 7.

It's a lot to give up, but to stabilize your WR room it's probably worth it.

The other side of it makes some sense too, just wait and draft 2 talented WRs in the 1st & 2nd. It's kind of hedging your bets that one of them will be able to just take over.

I know there are some Justin Shorter truthers out there who will tell you we don't need two WRs but I think it's sort of laughable.

1 of the things i don't get with these trades is how do the Bills get left holding the bag for so much cash ? If you take the player you need to take his contract too !!

Is the reason why the Bills get stuck with that much of a cap hit $31 million next year because they paid him bonuses in order to make more cap space and pushed it down the road ?  I don't get it .

That’s right. The deferred money all comes due immediately now that he’s been traded.

The upside is now after this season his cap hit is 0, freeing up a lot moving forward.

I thinks its a mixed bag

But I wouldnt go that hard and go for nine

Sure move for the guys you feel fit.

We aint gettin Marvin Harrison jr so ...

I think a more moderate move up to Brian Thomas is realistic.

Id also be fine just grabbing AD Mitchell at ~28 and move around the 2nd and grab Franklin.

Stef's playoff performance in the last 3 years is terrible. 0 tds and catch% of 58%. If we can somehow come away with 2 quality wrs in this draft we'll be just fine. I was personally tired of the diva drama and constant inuendos. Time to get young "wr wise" while JA17 is still young.  Thanks for trying Diggsy.

What's more wild is look at how potent the offenses were in those games against the Chiefs without Diggs doing anything.  The Bengals game not withstanding because the whole team was a mess that day.

It sucks that it didn't work out more cleanly, Diggs is a phenomenal talent, and the Bills will be fine without him. All of these things can be true.

If the Bills are going to be a serious contender this year they need to trade for an Aiyuk, Higgins, or Jefferson.  If not, then they need to make a massive trade up to get one of those top three WR prospects.  That's the only way this team competes for a Super Bowl this year and it sucks if it doesn't happen.

    Higgins was franchise tagged, right?

I think Aiyuk would make the most sense if they're looking for an established #1 guy.

I'm more intrigued with the trade up for a rookie and you bring in a WR like Thomas that's kind of a low risk gamble.

Also not to mention those that are still out there and can help at a reduced cost that while the rookies get up to speed.

    Hunter Renfrow

    Allen Robinson

    Tyler Boyd

    OBJ

    Michael Thomas

    Kendrick Bourne

There are some interesting names there to pair with a rookie (that you might want to trade up for).

You have to think this went into Beane's decision making process.

Maybe we can find a way to get either Thomas or OBJ. I know this probably hurts our financial flexibility but maybe there can be some magic with the numbers. If we used all these picks ti move way up and grab one of the elite WRs and added with M. Thomas or OBJ.. then all of a sudden I like what we have.

The longer they sit out there the cheaper they'll be.  Thomas + trade up 1st round WR is more interesting to me than OBJ, but I wouldn't hate it.

Cover 1 guys having meltdowns on Twitter is pretty amusing.

All of their  "NO HE CANNOT BE TRADED"  "WE DON'T HAVE ANY $"

They weren't wrong in the pure football discussion of it, it made little sense to move on.

BUT if you factor in the seemingly undeniable off the field / "diva" complaints, then it makes sense.

I say we package some picks, throw Elam into the deal and giddy up......grab our future young WR, maybe 2

Elam wouldn't add much to the compensation, he's probably worth a 5th-6th round pick at this point due to his 1st round rookie salary.

That is what I thought, but was waiting for spotrac to finalize it.

It isn't all that massive. It is $3M more than his cap hit on the roster.

Basically the Bills spent $3M in 2024 cap dollars today in order to free up $25M in 2025 cap dollars.

It's massive because that dead cap would be paying Diggs (minus 3 mil), and now you don't have that on a player.

That being said, I don't think it's wrong if all this reporting is true. Diggs is a great player but we need guys on the same page as Allen. Whatever falling out they might have been unfixable.

Hopefully we move up a draft a top 3-4 WR this draft and continue to invest in the room.

I do not believe this is true. Right now Spotrac is showing that we take Diggs $27M cap number off the books for 2025. That could change as this whole thing gets finalized, but it won't be $30M regardless.

There is no dead cap on a traded player the season after. All dead cap gets moved to the year they were traded. It's one of the reasons people thought he couldn't be traded, the Bills have taken on a massive dead cap hit but have cleared the books (saving 25ish mil) next season.

It may be but it had to be done. You can’t have your qb and star wr splintered like that.

Bad news is Bills might not even get to the divisional round next season to flop. Or maybe that’s good news? Take a step back to move forward.

If the Bills did nothing (not even drafted) and came into next season with exactly what they have I still think they have a great chance (I'll put it at 70% arbitrarily) to win the division.

This is the year to retool if there ever has been one.
