I'm getting the sense OBD has no sense of urgency to improve this offseason. Stay the course and hope we're luckier this year won't do it I'm afraid.
This is a ridiculous statement this early into FA and without seeing what we do in the draft.
Is there some FA RB you'd rather have that'll be around the same price as Johnson? I can't think of any.

He was a decent enough RB2-3 last season and I'm sure it's a low cost contract. This is what we should continue to do at RB.

The Bills have 11 picks, they need to double down on wr.
They selected Chris Burkett in the 2nd before selecting Andre Reed in the 4th.
They also took James Hardy in the 2nd before taking Stevie Johnson in the 7th.
2 WRs by the end of the 4th would increase the odds of having someone ready to step in and contribute on the outside.
I know it's sort of crazy strategy wise, but I hope there's an appetite in the Bills draft room for drafting a R1 WR and then doing it again in R2.
We did it with EDGE a few years ago and it didn't work out, but it feels way more necessary with WR honestly.

He'll probably land somewhere as a WR5 or something, but he really needs to learn to play special teams to up his value.

Huh? Going by the cap projections, the Bills are gonna be in pretty good shape and still have a great roster. What's your specific complaint?
He doesn't understand how aging works. Since we dropped a lot of household names due to age/injury the Bills must be "rebuilding"

I like this signing if he's wr 6 and we draft a #2 outside and a multi-functional slot / outside receiver to backup Shakir.
I gotta believe this is the plan, although he might be higher than 6 depending how Shorter / Hamler / other later round rookie WRs pan out.

This is one of the reasons why I'm not a big fan of McD's rotate happy D-Lineman philosophy.
Rousseau probably deserves a good contract, but can you pay that money knowing he's gonna play 40-50% of snaps? I don't know that you can.

In that case why bother paying a guy a penny more than you need to. Back to my argument that you should’ve the 1-2m from each of these vets your signing and pick some FA rookies off the street and pay them half as much. All while saving a million here and a million there. So then, maybe, if a decent vet is there that might actually make a difference, you can sign him to 6-8m. I’d rather have 5 scrubs at rookie minimum and 1 vet that’s decent on a prove it deal than 6 scrub vets that won’t make a difference. That’s just me I guess.
The difference here being that he is a proven special teamer, which this team values (arguably overvalues).
I get what you're saying though and I do think that's a valid argument to be made.

This kind of stuff is pretty common.
The phins are getting Jordan Poyer likely at the lowest point in his career. The guy was serviceable but you could see how many steps he lost through the season.
Good luck to him, he's going to need it with the exodus of young talent from Miami's defense.

You specifically stated WR and someone at Mack Collins level isn't good enough to play on a contending team.
You then were given an example of a Super Bowl winning team with multiple WR's and Mack Collins level and below.
This isn't that difficult and multiple people have commented on it.
The GOAT receiver and GOAT QB had the Chiefs at 15th in points scored at 23.1 ppg.
Can you tell us all again how McD doesn't play rookies?
I appreciate you taking up the mantle here and fighting the good fight, but it's clear that some people want to be mad at the Bills for the sake of being mad.

Totally fair and I can see that side of it too.

Poor WR depth will do that you mean. If he’s the depth we’re in trouble.
Show me a team with awesome playmakers at WR4/5.
It doesn't exist, that's why they're WR4/5.

Didn’t care about the signing until it turned into “he’s the Sherfield replacement.”
Am I the only one that watched the divisional playoff game vs the Chiefs when the Bills trotted Sherfield out there all game?
Injuries will do that.

Again, they have arguably the two best players to ever play their respective positions at QB and TE. It's not a real example.
That's completely pivoting away from your original point, but okay.

Chiefs had an elite defense that shows up in the playoffs.
Chiefs have Travis Kelce and invested back to back RD2 picks at WR, of which Rashee Rice finally broke out.
People keep wanting to compare us to a team that has 2-3 elite guys outside Mahomes at all times, who all step up in the playoffs.. it's the strangest thing.
The guy said that he "not enough talent to play on a team that's supposed to be a contender", I just provided context to show that's a silly thing to say.
I never compared us to the Chiefs.

I'm responding directly to your statement " not enough talent to play on a team that's supposed to be a contender"
Contenders have won it all with guys like Hollins in the wings. I'm not saying the Bills are anything, just that your statement is wrong.

he has talent, but not enough talent to play on a team that's supposed to be a contender. This is starting to feel like a full rebuild year.
The Chiefs whole WR room was filled with guys around Mack Hollins level this season and they managed to make it work.
I'm not excited about this signing but it's not like he can be a Kelvin Benjamin level flop. He's a backup/ST guys primarily with some decent NFL experience.

Mack Hollins looked okay on the Raiders, but he's a bottom of the roster type guy, WR4/5 with some special teams upside.
This shouldn't change anything in regards to the WR room needs, but eh...
After Sherfield and Harty I'm not going to get excited.

He's been one of best route runners in short yardage situations. He's an interesting prospect for the Bills but probably redundant with Shakir. That being said, if he was cheapish I don't think it's the worst idea.

He'll be a backup / special packages / special teams player with starting experience. I suppose you can't ask for better.
Seems like he's better than AJ Klein or someone like that, so I'll take it.

Dillon than Foreman. Dillon on a modest deal imo pairs well with Cook. Do the short yardage stuff plus can function as a back up. Foreman can offer the same just a notch below imo.
Dillon just had one of the worst seasons you can have as a RB. I wouldn't want him on the team at all, or pay him more than vet. minimum.
I'd rather stick with Ty Johnson then even take a flier on AJ Dillon.- 2

The top end was tagged a year ago with jacobs, barkley, and pollard all getting it. Factoring in what they all received last year - all are basically getting a similar number AAV. Swift, Henry, Jones, Ekeler all available this year too. It was a pretty loaded market. Looking at this list - i don't see anyone who i'd pay left. Let someone else overpay.
Patterson - Old and a KR only guy
Mattison - Bad
Elliott - bursts of good, but he was always a big hitter and now he's hitting singles instead of homers
CEH - still young, coming off a terrible season
Akers - still young, coming off a terrible season
Foreman - big fast dude in the murray mold
Scott - Put him next to damien harris
Harris - See scott, plus an injury
Dobbins - Can't see much of a market with all the injuries
Hunt - Didn't even lead his team in carries after chubb was hurt so... i'd assume hes trending down
Dillon - Big.. fast... not sure he's very dynamic though.
Mckinnon - pretty much 3rd down only, would take away some cook snaps in those situations. Not an upgrade over cook, but an upgrade over murray playing on third downs blocking.
Dobbins is kind of interesting if you can get him on the team for a cheap prove it type deal.

I could have sworn there was reports that Harris thinking of retiring after that injury, but yes he was a 1 year deal.
You can say the same about everyone except for Diggs, honestly.
