I can't tell if people are actually upset about the lack of Bills signings so far.

So far there have been 8 signings. 5 teams have signed a player, meaning the Bills are 1 of 27 to not sign someone. Reeelaaaxxxx

Cleveland Browns - Case Keenum, QB

Cleveland Browns - Austin Hooper, TE

Cleveland Browns - Jack Conklin, OT

Denver Broncos - Graham Glasgow, G

Detroit Lions - Halapoulivaati Vaitai, OT

Miami Dolphins - Ereck Flowers, OT

Miami Dolphins - Shaq Lawson, DE

Oakland Raiders - Nick Kwiatowski, LB

    All overpays except for Hooper.

Levi? I think he can play. No worse than a backup boundary corner, and he can get you through half a season as a starter if needed.

He didn’t say no big spending; he said “not in the deep end of the pool”, which to me means “quality over quantity”.

I’d gladly take 2 guys at 10 million a year than 1 guy near 20. High priced free agent signings rarely work out.

Also, three other teams clearly saw he could still play as well and wanted him. But he chose to come here. How often has a player chosen the Bills since before the drought ended? Without being money-whipped.

Why?  Allen was better then a lot of other young QB's at ball protection.  He only threw 9 inceptions which is decent and he lost what 5 fumbles? Given how much he ran with the ball he should be more vulnerable then most QB's to fumbling.  That's the price you pay for all those 3rd down conversions he makes running the ball.

And Allen wasn't as bad as the Giants Jones or the Panthers Allen when it came to losing fumbles in the pocket. Those 2 fumbled if they felt the breath of a DE on their neck.

Bottom line is that Allen was responsible for 30 TD's and 14 TO's over the course of the season.  That hardly gives me reason to be concerned.  Sure I would like to see his TO's cut in half to 7 but 14 is in no way extreme for a 2nd yer QB.

There were many times he came close to losing fumbles, or generally carried the ball in a way it could be easily knocked away.

    We will see, Scott.

But what we will see is that their core principles don't change. The things they say every single year, will continue to be said every single year and will also be followed through on. That's what you're dealing with here, core principles, things that they have said every single year and at their introductory press conferences. They ain't changing, Scott, because this is how they believe in building a team. Again, they've literally said this since their first moments.

They're believers in financial conservatism. And thank goodness they are, because history shows that's how the teams that are consistent competitors go about it.

Now, if by "big contracts" you mean $10 or $11 mill, hey, I wouldn't disagree with that. I'd call those mid-level contracts and wouldn't find a couple of those very surprising at all. But two at genuinely high levels? Ain't gonna happen, Scott.  Not because I say so. I'm just some schlemiel on a message board. Because they say so, again and again.

I think they'll look to get 2-3 guys at 10-11 million. Morse like solid starters. I'm not expecting them to shell out for a guy like Clowney. But they need to add some more starter level players to the team.

Totally agree.  The biggest reason for the Bills failures during the first 16 years of the 21st century was because they did not keep the good young players they developed.  It significantly impacted the draft because they too frequently used their first and second round draft picks to fill the holes they created by either trading/not re-signing their best young veterans.

For myself, I'd like to see the Bills add a quality WR in FA because they need one immediately -- they still need to determine if Allen truly is a franchise QB, and giving him better targets is the best way to do that -- and the draft is always risky.   After that, I think that they'd probably do much better upgrading the middle and bottom of the roster with FAs rather than sinking most of their cap space into a couple of big names.

The Bills have the money to keep the good young players they developed, AND supplement them with good free agent signings.

Thanks for the link on Hooper.

I am all for having two top end TE's!   I want a great two-way TE though, not a slot receiver in disguise.  I think that's what we need to make a great and versatile ground and pound game.

But top $ free agency acquisitions are risky.  Also, they are not inline with the best practices of McBean & Co.   They've stated that they'd prefer to draft and resign the best of their own.  Since they are still a young franchise, I think they would have to be REALLY sold on this guy (or any other top $ guy).  They're still working on building and establishing a culture and set of best practices.  That doesn't work if you're regularly breaking the rules.

They have 90 million in cap space. They went 10-6 last year. Some of the players they have drafted do not need to be resigned, and upgrades can be made in free agency.

I don't think anyone is "playing madden".

The Bills have the ability to sign a couple big FAs and still resign their own.

Nobodys talking about winning the offseason.... the team needs an influx of talent at certain positions that rookies and continuity can't fill. I think Beane will act accordingly and you'll be somewhat surprised.

Also, last years team went 10-6 and lost in the WC round. There are only a few guys worth resigning from last years team. They have the ability to upgrade positions through free agency, and can go BPA in the draft. I see no reason the Bills can't go into the draft with very few holes to fill. That being said:

    Conklin

    Hunter Henry

    Jordan Howard

    Matt Judon

I don't get the obsession with adding to the defense. The Bills should be making the offense the priority in FA and the draft. These playoffs have shown you need to score points to win. The Bills offense didn't do enough of that.

The Bills have no game-changing edge rushers. Which are extremely important to have in todays NFL.

I mean he should think this but he’s not.  He is a good pass rusher but Our run defense was the weak point of the defense.  I honestly don’t know what to pay him.  I’d like to keep him but he’s a guy I worry about once he gets a big payday.

He's a situational pass rusher. I think the Bills say go test the open market, if not, you can come back here on a reasonable deal.

It's a weird year for the CBA so we can use both the franchise tag and the transition tag not one or the other.  So I would use those two on phillips and maybe lawson.  But 15 mil for lawson is a tough pill so I'd hope he'd take a jordan phillips type deal to prove this year wasn't a fluke.  So I hope to use the tags on phillips and spain.

I'd throw a contract at Kenyan Drake as he'd probably be in the 5 mil range I think.  I'd also sign Chris Harris if possible to go opposite tre and have a lockdown secondary.  Nigel Bradham would be a nice pickup and back in our jersey for lb. Now, he plays inside for the eagles...could he come here and play middle and move tremaine outside?

Neither player would be worth what it costs to tag them. Lawson I'd keep, Phillips only if the price is right.

I mentioned it before but we’re going to be in the Kareem Hunt market.

John Dorsey was his biggest advocate in Cleveland, with him gone Kareem doesn’t expect them to match an offer he gets.

We were interested in signing him last off-season. He actually wants to come to Buffalo. It will either be us or Philadelphia... he a had deal in place with them and was looking at houses there before the Browns jumped in.

Hunt would be a good get. Not sure if he's a McBeane guy given his history.
