A small thing on espn on Bill Parcells: Bill Parcells' players have tried to hit him -- and that's just fine with the two-time Super Bowl champion coach. "We've had a few" players take a swing at him, Parcells says in an interview with "60 Minutes" that will air Sunday night. "That's OK. I think confrontation is healthy, because it clears the air very quickly. " Nothing like a punch in the head the straighten things out Bill Parcells

(ot) Sad night in Montreal...
millbank replied to Greg de'Ville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Montreal had very good attendance up until 1994 and the strike . Montreal had somewhat lower attendance mostly because of the import of hockeys Montreal Canadians who held front page much the earlier part of baseball season. The strike of 94 and then Jeffery Loria gutting the team, placing road blocks such that land deals were not able to be agreed upon for needed new stadium and it was in consort with Mlb and Loris who ended up as prize owner of Florida Marlins to this day these dealings in litigation. This situation was similar in nature of Buffalo Sabre fans very angry at a Regis and staying away from games, hardly are Buffalo fans not interested in hockey they were fed up being screwed The same held true in Montreal. I get it not many care, but it is sad and it is wrong. -

Not to argue but baseball needed not to have left Montreal it was a corrupt business interests that destroyed baseball as a viable entertainment option. Its sad because, soon baseball will be having a true world series where nations will be competing against each other fans are going to see more how the game is enjoyed in other nations in most unique and different ways than in North America, in many places the game is a passion a nine inning celebration of drums and singing and fan participation much different than what we normally see. Montreal because of its most unique culture should have played a large part in this, the ball park of Montreal were wonderful places to see a game full of singing anc cheering people when they were treated with respect and MLB encouraged it rather the facilitate a means to destroy it. -

Actually baseball very much belongs in Montreal (imo) the shame of mlb and various business interests sabotaged a franchise that as with many American teams needed a new stadium in a much more accessible part of Montreal to the people. Montreal has as rich a history in baseball as any North American city and arguably was part of changing the face of baseball forever when Branch Ricky owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers signed Jackie Robinson baseballs first black man and as a test move Jackie played for the Montreal Royals. Do take a look at the link below, it is a sad day in Montreal and for baseball a very unique and special place was lost. One only read and listen of the times spent in the city by Tommy Lasorda, Sparky Anderson, Jackie Robinson, Rusty Staub,( Le Grande orange) Gary Carter, a very corrupt and poor ownership is responsible for baseball leaving Montreal, the pictures of the last few years are examples of a populace tired of being cheated and lied to, not a populace not interested in baseball. Its great the baseball is back in Washington, but baseball could have been a great success in Montreal also, it was sabotaged. Jackie Robinson -
Pedro's Friend And Clubhouse Of Dr. Moreau September 26, 2004 By DAVID HEUSCHKEL, Courant Staff Writer BOSTON -- The Red Sox may have unveiled a new good luck charm Saturday night. "The curse is gone," Johnny Damon said. "He's helping us out." Scaring them is more like it. Nelson de la Rosa, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest living actor ("The Island of Dr. Moreau"), paid a visit to the Red Sox clubhouse. He is a friend of Pedro Martinez and a fellow Dominican, all 25 or so inches of him. "Why don't you ask Derek Lowe about what he saw," Damon said. "He's still kind of in shock." "I don't even want to talk about it," Lowe said. "It gave me the heebie-jeebies." Kevin Millar said Red Sox manager Terry Francona thought de la Rosa was a toy when he walked into the manager's office. "It was unbelievable," Millar said. "I didn't know what the hell it was. Are you [kidding] me with that thing? That scared the [heck] out of me. Good Lord. And it started talking, too. Whatever it was, it scared the [heck] out of us." De la Rosa, 36, posed for pictures by sitting on the laps of players and coaches. "Literally, he was up to your knees," Bronson Arroyo said. "Pedro's bobble-head is so much bigger than him. It was unbelievable. I'm telling you, the pictures don't even do justice. The picture makes him look bigger." "I can't even describe it," Alan Embree said.

Craig Feinberg (Buffalo, NY): Mr. Donahoe, how do you justify your performance as GM when you have spent two first-round picks in 4 years on a QB, already misfired on one coaching staff, misjudged a No. 4 overall draft choice. Selected only 1-Pro Bowler in 4 years, and have a 17-33 record as the Bills GM? TD: In the three plus years we've been in Buffalo we've had a lot of issues to deal with and many of the issues we have dealt with successfully. People can pick and choose what they want to talk about with regard to our record in Buffalo and ultimately we will be judged by that record. We do feel that there are a lot of positives to our organization. There are a lot of positives to our team and we're going to continue to build on those positives. From three years ago we have a very healthy cap situation with our team we have basically transformed our roster. There are only two veteran players that still remain from the first team that we had here in Buffalo and there are a lot of positive signs things are improving. Some people see the glass as half empty and we've always chosen to see the glass as half full Richard Arnold (Stratford, Ontario): Seems some circles are criticizing you for not improving the O-line, yet quality players still want to come to Buffalo (i.e. Vincent). Do you and they know something the average fan does not? Are the lines, especially the quality acquisitions on the O-line, the next big piece of the puzzle that falls into place to make this team competitive? Tom Donahoe: Players throughout the League recognize that Buffalo is a quality place to play and a very good organization and that makes it easy for us to attract free agents to Buffalo. With regards to the offensive line, we feel that we did address this in the off-season. We signed what many people felt was the best guard in free agency in Chris Villarrial. And Lawrence Smith, the starting left guard, is another young lineman that we like his potential. It's very early in the season and we have to give the offensive line time to gel. Ask Mr. Donahoe a Question

Glen did push off on first touchdown he was not interferred with it was obvious. Newman against Gardner they didnt call it in end zone, again obvious, but yes they used their timeouts very poorly amongst other things....... One stat that was interesting about this year so far Fish have allowed 35 points and are 0-3 , Jags have scored 36 points and are 3-0.......

I appreciate that there are schools where there is prayer and that we may send our children to them. My denomination has our own School , where the members have built the schools , transport the children to all free of tax dollars at our expense. Its not my desire to tell others they must , but it is also not my desire to be we cannot. This is not a childrens choice its a adult one.

It is interesting how California Angels dealt with Jose Guillen. Guillen has been a very emotional player where ever he played and has a me first persona. It would seem that this past weekend that it came to a head with Guillen getting hit with a pitch his manager Mike Scioscia sending in a runner to run for him and Guillen not liking this and making a public display of himself, throwing his arms in the air, throwing his helmet in the general direction of Manager. Even though the team is in a very close race with at least some hope still for playoff position they decided that it was more important that all understood that team comes first and such behaviour will not be tolerated as they suspended Guillen for the remainder of season. Good show that management had the Managers back on this rather than the star player, often such stars get their misbehaviour rationalized in different fashions rather than dealt with often in the end it’s the manager gets the grief and in end with lack of respect ultimately loses his job, that California Angels have had success and are currently this sort of strong decision making shows why. They had the courage to make the tough call for the better even if on the short term they may suffer, in the long view they will succeed. Guillen
