We can start with placing laws that apply to everyone, including presidents, back in place. I know it hasn't been a day yet even, but can we start there. Not giving too much power to any one branch is important. No matter what, you literally now live in a country where Seal team 6 can murder you if the president says so. The clowns celebrating this, and saying it won't happen should still be VERY angry that it COULD.

Giving orders to the military is an official duty. I don't want to get too hung up on trump, because this goes far beyond him, but he has already talked about martial law and shooting looters. Again, I'm, not saying he's the nut to do it, but any order given to the military is "an official act", and that's indisputable. Now, who will our future nutjob president, who has bad intentions, appoint as his generals, because they are the only hope of stopping it. I'd assume he'd just replace them if they refused anyways.

Ok, so we just put our democracy in check, because we're worried that some 70-year-old ex-presidents might be treated unfairly? That outweighs the good that law and order for all, including the president was providing. That's completely ridiculous and insane. To protect that one guy, which btw has never spent a minute in jail in our history, we had to cave to the idea that he could legally murder citizens and political opponents at will with no justice. We need to stop thinking in terms of Biden and trump with this decision, because it may stand for a long time, and if/when someone does decide to use that power, it will be far too late for the SCOTUS to do anything about it. They literally made a bed that all of us, including them, have to lay in, and pray that it doesn't happen. That's NOT how a country of law and order/checks and balances operates. Kavanaugh should be forced to answer why his stance, that even a few years ago, he felt that a president wasn't above the law, even concerning matters of military and defense. What changed, Brett? Do we not deserve to know the answer to that? If he says lawfare, then he just admitted he has zero faith in the justice system, that he is at the top of.

We used to just ignore those people. Now the medias has amped them up, and we ended up with equally nutty people at the other end of the spectrum, who the media also amps up. It would be great if Biden went to play shuffleboard as he should, and someone else stepped in, and made their campaign, 'Return America to the center'.

The problem is there's no one above him to tell him what his official acts are. He is in charge of the military, and there's zero constraints on that. trump was going to fire AG's until he got one that disputed the election. Don't you think he can do that with military commanders until he gets one that follows the orders??? Absolutely no order he gives the military can be considered a crime. None. Zero. Zilch. Will trump go rogue? Maybe not, but somewhere down the line, if that ability exists, it will inevitably happen. A president can literally declare martial law, kill American citizens, adjourn Congress so they can't impeach him, and then go play golf when his term is up. That is our new reality. Unfortunately, we just took some of those checks away. I didn't trust the government before this, and now I trust it far less. The president can now use the military as an authoritarian, and we have to hope that he doesn't have loyalist generals. Imagine what General Steve Bannon would do if he wasn't constrained.

And the inverse is, if someone is Hitler, should everything be on the table, or rather in his case under the table, but not blocked by heaven wood legs? Oh yeah, no open windows either. Try to imagine a country where if Stauffenberg was president, he could legally bomb whoever he wanted. Right now our country couldn't possibly be any more upside down. What a mess.

Would you trade holding criminals accountable by trial by jury of their peers(a pretty well-known and supported American institution) for no chance in hell the criminal ever faces justice???

I mean anyone could expect a visit from either. It doesn't get any worse than dead, but I'd prefer Seal Team 6, because they'd likely do a head shot, where the drone might blow limbs off, and cause more prolonged suffering.

The funny part is they had already given them the right to cover up any evidence of the covert operation taken to get them. I think they need some good examples of what may or may not be official acts before they celebrate too hard, because there's no book on it.
