I think we take Jonah Williams. Beane wants competition and beyond Morse, there isn’t a player on the line that should be considered safe. Seems like a no-brained to me.
However...I can’t shake the thought of them being in love with Christian Wilkins...

My realistic list is still:
1. Ed Oliver
2. Jonah Williams
3. TJ Hockenson
Would be be very happy with any of the three. All are instant starters, process guys who will be a huge upgrade at their position.
I would agree, but I don’t see Oliver as a “process guy” at all. In fact, I think he’s kind of the opposite. However, McD recognizes his talent and apparently would like to have him. I would say Risner and Wilkins are more process than Oliver.
36 minutes ago, JerseyBills said:This is probably my exact , realistic list. I do think if Beane and Co fell in love with a likely top 5 pick, I don't see him hesitating If the price is right.
Also TJ is also becoming more and more intriguing the more I watch of him. Looks like he could be an elite ,top 3 TE for a long time. Elite blocker as well, would just be a matchup nightmare
Bingo. Holy heck I want Hockenson to be a Bill in the worst way.

Gotta be honest...I don’t want Oliver. Something about him screams that it would be a bad move by the front office. He just doesn’t seem like a Buffalo guy. I see Dareus all over again. Someone that is just playing out his rookie deal before moving on to bigger and better things. Is he talented? Yes. No denying that. I just don’t think it’s a good fit.
On on the other hand, a guy like Quinnen Williams (who we have no shot at) or Christian Wilkins would be excellent fits. Williams would have to be obtained in a trade up while Wilkins hopefully could be had in a trade down.
I think all all this is moot anyhow as some team in front of us will likely take Oliver.

I don't love this running back class. I don't think it is as strong as previous years. I love the Penn State kid and he is my clear #1. I doubt he lasts past the end of round 2.... but overall I think the 4th round is about the sweet spot for backs in this class. That said, what we have seen over recent drafts is when a run on backs starts teams get a bit fidgety. If that run starts at the end of round 2 say, then it is possible the Bills would need to consider using a third round pick.
Miles Sanders all day long. He has a lot of tread left on his tires and he can catch the ball too.
-
Fine. That means that Quinnen Williams or Josh Allen will make it to at least 5. The sweet spot for a trade up is 5 anyways. I think Quinnen Williams is the best player in this draft.

Apples to oranges. Come on, man! You start with naming already established te's who were drafted after the 1st round, then when confronted with the fact the good dl have been drafted after the 1st round, you somehow want to change the narrative to players not even drafted yet?! I am Dopey, but even I can see how illogical that argument is. Can't you?
I’m convinced Cornette is an older gentleman who is stuck in the 60’s and 70’s. Back in the day when defense was more important than anything else. Well...now you have to have a top offense if you want to keep up with other great teams. We need a top TE. Period. We can find a solid defensive player later on, we could even trade back into the first for Lawrence or Wilkins if he starts to slip. But we aren’t going anywhere if we don’t improve our offense.

A home run hitter needs guys that are fast, and can get deep....not a big guy that catches passes 10 yards downfield. In fact, the short passing game is the weakness in Allen's game.
I'm not sure a TE will be the "safety blanket" that most people here seem to think it will be for Allen.
And maybe, just maybe, the biggest douchebag to ever play the position. Well, besides his son....
Is Allen a home run hitter? Yes. But there comes times in every game where you need 7 yards to move the chains. That’s where your TE comes into play. McD himself said that. I think it’s more of a possibility than any of us realize.

Because you can't get good, pass-catching TEs in rounds 2-4? Good pass-catching TEs such as: Zach Ertz and Travis Kelce who went in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, respectively?
Same can be said for other positions. Hockenson is a complete TE. The others are not.

Will Hockenson help the pass rush and run defense be better?
Will a pass rusher or interior lineman help our terrible TE Corp be better?

Stay at 9. Move to 21 (Seahawks) to get Wilkins or Lawrence when we take Hock or J Taylor at 9.
If we take Oliver at 9, move to 28 (Chargers) to get Fant or Marquis Brown depending who is available. Don’t think Metcalf will be there.
No. Just no. We don’t need another guy like Brown. We already have guys like him. We need receivers with size.

They have 10 picks I see them using maybe 5 of those picks to move back up. I hope they take 10 picks and turn it into 4 guys in the first 2 rounds.
This is my hope as well. With the additions in fA, there aren’t going to be many roster spots available. And 6th and 7th rounders are usually long shots anyways. Package the picks and move up. Draft at 9, move back into the bottom of the first for a player that drops and then try to get two 2nd rounders.

I would love the combo of Hockenson and Wilkins. Hockenson is a complete TE and is a huge position of need. Wilkins seems like a process guy through and through and is highly productive and hungry. To me, this would be a huge haul and would be a win no matter what else happens. And we would still have fourth and fifth round picks to address RB.

Again, I don't see them looking at LT because they're still looking to see if Dawkins regains his 2017 form and he can't play RT. Nsekhe can play RT (or LT if Dawkins falters again) at a high level for a couple more years and you don't draft a RT (or OG, which Williams projects to) that high anyway.
I don’t buy this at all. What if Dawkins doesn’t regain his 2017 form? Then we don’t have a viable option. By drafting a tackle you are challenging Dawkins and at worst you have 2 elite linemen. You have to remember that McD is always preaching competition.
-
Here is the bottom line that cannot be disputed:
McD has done NOTHING this offseason to give Dion Dawkins a glowing endorsement as his left tackle. In fact, he’s left the door open quite a bit to improve at the position. That’s why I think Dillard and Williams are very much in play at 9. Dillard more so since he’s considered the best LT prospect in the draft. However, after hearing that the Bills like Williams as a LT, who really knows?

I will say that if Sanders falls to the end of the second, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Beane move back in to take him. I would love it.

Miles Sanders is the RB I want most out of this draft. He is not Saquon but that is ok. He is plenty good enough. He saved himself a lot of “miles” by being behind Saquon and he will be a beast in the NFL. Imagine having him behind two hall of famers for a year!

Not sure about him at 9 if he projects as a guard. Too rich. For me the only linemen you spend a top 10 pick on is a legit LT - can maybe be talked into a RT,
Yeah...Quentin Nelson was a huge reach...

I can see it happening as well. We have too many picks and not enough roster spots.
Sneaky suspicion the guy they're targeting is Jerry Tillery.
This is my thought as well. The Bills are said to have scouted ND games heavily this past year. I would suspect the guy they were looking at the most was Tillery. He has proto size and is very disruptive. I could see the Bills going after him.

are the 5 I am almost certain that go before Oliver. Hopefully teams panic and trade up for Lock and Haskins. We need Tampa to select Sweat. I am doubting Oliver makes it to 9. Aaron Donald won back to back defensive player of the year awards. It's hard not to see similarities. Bills run to podium to select Oliver if he makes it to 9 IMO.
That begs the question- what do Bills do if Oliver and those 5 are not available? Do we trade down? Do we select Gary or Wilkins? Jonah or Jawaan? DK? Hock? And if Lock and Haskins make it to 9-we are in prime spot for QB needy teams(plenty of them) to leap Denver at 10. So that just might be a nice consolation prize if we do lose out on Oliver
In this scenario, I think the only two players keeping the Bills from trading down are Jawaan Taylor and T.J. Hockenson. The Bills could finish the o-line for years to come with Taylor and give Allen the best protection possible. Hockenson could provide good blocking and pass catching skills as a safety blanket to Allen. Either one would be a huge upgrade and provide us with a potential pro bowler.
I think the Bills have their eyes on Jerry Tillery at 40. Apparently, they have been at a lot of ND games this year and I could see Beane being enamored with Tillery’s size. He loves prototypes.
All that said, I hope we trade down and pick up a second 2 or 3. This would allow us to get another potential starter and give us ammo to move around the board.

If that happens I’m probably calling the Bucs and giving them whatever they want at 5 to trade back to 9. Josh Allen is a step above anyone they would get at 9.
That would be consecutive drafts that we trade up with the Bucs to draft Josh Allen...

Both 6-2. Harry is thicker at 223 vs Jones 203. Jones 4.45 40 vs harry 4.53. Both scouting report weakness reads almost the same. Foot speed an issue threating a defense deep, will struggle vs press due to lack of suddenness and quickness. Both work well underneath. They are similar in alot of ways. I would rather have Zay jones year 3 than Harry year 1. I would rather have Metcalf or trade down or rd 2 Butler.
He is not huge or fast though. I dont care what the combine says. You watch him play nothing jumps out at you.
Well it’s funny you would rather have Metcalf. What is he other than a physical freak? He can’t get out of his breaks and doesn’t run good routes. He’s a straight line speedster and that’s about it. I’d rather go after another position in the first and target a WR in the second or third, because this draft is deep at the position.

I still think its going to be EDGE, TE, or DK at 9 if they don't trade down.
IMO it won’t be Metcalf at all. This draft is deep at the position and there isn’t much drop off from a Metcalf to the next group. In fact, I would argue that other receivers will be better in the league.
TE will probably in happen if we trade down. I’d put money on DE or DT.

Bills 2nd Round Pick for the TBD mock draft (#46 overall)

My prediction is that we will make two picks tonight. I think we will package 40 with another pick to move up to the bottom of the first for a player that begins to slide.
