    To the OP:

Thanks for your Fred Jackson story!  That was heart warming and a cool experience for you, no doubt.  Made me feel good to read it.

I went through the first page of responses and noted that nobody bothered to respond to this, largely because it is a positive story that unites us all as Bills fans.

Most folks aren't here for that.  They are filled with hate, want to argue and fight, and this explains the generally toxic environment at this forum.

We are all brothers and sisters in that we are in the tiny minority of people in this country who cheer for the Buffalo Bills and want to see them win a Super Bowl.

We all share more in common than in adversity, but you would never know it reading through the the threads here on a daily basis.

    What a shame.

Thanks so much for the great reply!!! I agree wholeheartedly and yes it really made watched ng the loss bearable well that and weck n wings at the anchor bar and a couple stiff drinks ? Im glad the Fred Jackson story got read I felt like noone read it lmao.

I understand my assessment hurts because lots of us want to contend now but we are missing at least an elite to good right tackle and the same at de and the same at wr. Those are mandatory to compete today in the NFL unless you've got Tommy or someone on his level or close to it.

Unlikely to see the degree of turnover the OP suggests.  Next season, there will inevitably be players playing in positions that will frustrate fans.  We'll talk about getting two new tackles but will end up getting one that is better and hope that is enough to stabilize the line.  We'll want Ford out of the RT position but they'll either see progression or move him to guard and we'll hope they are correct.  No way you blow up the roster at this point.  It's continual incremental improvement at this point.  Add an impactful RT, WR, and DE and you've got a substantially better team IMO.

This is what I see for next year as well and it seems realistic. I was just stating what I see that needs to happen be it in 1 or 2 seasons from now to make us a perrenial playoff team in general. I hope I'm wrong about Edmunds and he gets better at being in the right place at the right time and same goes for Ford.

I was concerned with the run defense again. It definately needs attention before we have a repeat of the recent past. The Eagles are a good team, and they were able to exploit a few weaknesses. It is good to find these things out now so they can be corrected.

Exactly what I'm trying to say in my op I don't think the sky is falling and we're right on track but these are the things I see that need tweaks/changes to put this team over the top. Heck we do what I listed and I think we can beat the best in the league, again I'm leaving looking to be an elite unit that can dominate weak opposition and get into a shoot out if need be with elite company. That's what it takes these days, this is what is needed to take this division next season and for years to come. Let's have another dynasty it's about time we did.

I hate to break up the love-fest here, but what do EITHER of you guys think about running the ball more?

Yes please like I said singletary needs a shot as a 3 down back for the bulk of the game and we need a flat pass/screen game with him to help free up everything else.

The more I read Bills fans (and I include myself among them) giving their analysis of what's wrong, their evaluations of players and coaches, and in particular their prescriptions for what the team needs to do differently . . . .

. . . the more glad I am that they have no control over what the team does. Fans are not rational, they ride hobby horses, they ignore complexity, they focus on some things and ignore others, they react emotionally, they live in a fantasy world.

Whenever I read one of these breakdowns I find at least a couple of opinions that call into question the opininator's ability vision, reasoning ability, or sanity. If this is the level of reasoning ability of the average American, no wonder we have the government we have.

And yes, as I said, that includes me, too.

I'm just stating what I see when I watch the games in person and on the TV, my opinion may be wrong it may be right but I'm totally sane and I'm calling out what I see as holding the team back. I think we're heading in the right direction and are a handful of above average players away from being real sb contenders. That's my take and I think Beane and co make it right this off-season and draft just my 2 cents. Yes there's a lot to be positive about and these are my only gripes with the roster and play calling etc. I could make a whole post about what I like and see as awesome but that stuff is obvious to everyone. I gave my spin on things and what seems to need Improvement, also I'm not counting out that hey maybe the line gels a bit more on o and d.

Whoopty-doo.  The Bills run game is good against bottom feeders, but it's not all that good against respectable, middle of the pack teams like the Eagles, and lousy against serious defenses.

The Bills didn't lose by a FG to a great team.  They got drubbed and exposed by a decent Eagles team, not a Super Bowl contending Eagles team, losing by 18 points.

I was so dejected after that game the only silver lining i saw was Allen and singletary as well as john brown, milano, kroft, and beasley as well as phillips and hey I'll throw shaq a bone too. This is why I think our line both o and d needs some above average players added, 2 starting caliber de's and new o tackles move ford and dawkins inside. We need to be able to blow d lines off the ball

My biggest gripe to date for this season is the predictability of the plays that Daboll calls. I'm talking 100% of the time lee smith is in the game and wrs are bunched in, it is a run, and shotgun is almost 100% pass unless gore is next to allen to take the draw. There seems to be almost no attempt at disguising run vs. pass plays, and it makes the game plan that much more simple for opposing DC's to prepare for. When i'm at home telling my wife run or pass and getting it right the majority of the time... thats sad because i am a far, far cry from an NFL player or DC.

I agree completely and on the flip side when he does disguise and we run a nicely disguised fake and throw it from a run look with allen letting it rip on a 2 or 3 step drop someone seems to always come wide open and its a huge play for good yards. we can do it we just need to get to it haha, singletary as the 3 down back makes this possible

I definitely agree they looked rusty. What i really want to see is a statement win. Doesn't matter to me who they do it against, but i want to see that game where they start hot, and control the game from whistle to whistle in all 3 phases of the game in a comfortable win. Doesn't even have to be a blowout where allen throws for 300 yards and 3 tds either.

Thats when i will say this team looks like they belong in the playoffs.

amen i agree we havent had a real statement game yet this year, maybe the lines just need time to gel idk

    Good thread.

The offense could do a 180 with A) More Singletary, and B) More long ball.  We're really missing the long ball.  That's a game changer in a few ways, and we haven't seen it at all.

    I have hope.

My thoughts exactly, I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of what it's going to take to become an upper echelon offense and an elite defense(we are very good right now but not Elite yet) but yes much more singletary and we need an open when not guy for the long ball just from watching the games vs last year allen seems tentative to put the ball right on the receiver and overthrows for a reason imo and honestly i feel like we need to work more of the 15-25 yeard throws into the game plan because he is imo a top 5 qb in the intermediate/short "deep" route area and his short route game is pretty darn good now, hes throwing with touch that he didnt show last year

    Its not a finished product

We just went through a full rebiulding process....no more half ass measures with band aids.....and came out the other side of it with a ton of cap space.....a promising young qb......and 2 solid drafts.

The result?  A 5 and 2 season and all arrows point to the playoffs

This next off season....lots of offensive threat free agents.....a ton of cap space......and another draft

I know fans patience have been tested......more is needed.  We are NOT winning the super bowl this year.....we WILL make the playoffs.

    A legit 1 WR

    Another OT

    improved backups at LB

    youngsters getting more NFL experience

I think next year is the year we make the real push

I agree Allen is on Pace and there's a lot to be excited about. I also agree next year is the year that we contend

I know this will not be popular in this thread, but I believe the Bills have not played their best football yet this season.

The O-line play--guys were getting absolutely blown up last year.  Russ Bodine, Jordan Mills, Vlad??...Morse, TY/Ford and Feliciano are serious upgrades.  The Bills are better up front...

The play calling has been good at times but mostly what I call "cute" -- not gimmicky but not the way I would call a game.  Coach McD wants a physical, tough team and Daboll sometimes wants to show us he's a genius.  Let the big O-line just be physical a little more...try a game where we use the run to set up the play action rather than the reverse..which I have seen a couple of times this year.

Josh is progressing...he had the least game experience of any other rookie QB.  He is on a pretty fast progression all things considered--but running a bit more may help that.

Bottom line, I think there is better football in the Bills future this year.

On the contrary I welcome this take too and agree with parts of it, while yes the line is improved I feel like Morse and Dawkins/Ford are the only keepers and that I'd move Ford and Dawkins inside . We need to be able to dominate the los like I said average doesn't cut it at ot imo and yes I think we've yet to play a complete game and that there's better to come . I don't think the sky is falling I just see opportunities to improve and become a truly dominant team in the league. Remember this the NFC is much more competitive than the AFC right now. We need to build to get all the way through the playoffs not just get there. Awesome response thanks

For years we have been talking about whether or not the 300 yard game is important and if it means anything. I tried to weed out the busts and quick flame outs, so I put some caps on players in terms of NFL commitment via starts and/or longevity. Data compiled from NFL.com and Pro-Football-Reference

So I compiled every draft from 1998 of QB's.I left the google doc public and editable if anybody wanted to play with it or add information.

Minimums for the sake of editing out guys who didn't either have longevity in the league or weren't given long term starting opportunities:

    - 32 Starts

    or

    - 6 years on an NFL Roster

    - For drafts from 2014 +, must still be on an NFL roster

    - QB's Drafted in  2017, 2018, 2019, must have started at least 1 game

    Raw Findings:

    - For QB's who have thrown a 300 yard game, their average time in the league was 2.29 years (rookie year is counted as 1)

    - QB's who have met the criteria, averages a 300 yard game at their 8.9th start

    - Every QB who has met the 6 year or 32 start criteria and has started a playoff game, has thrown for 300 yards in a game.

    - Every QB with a playoff start has averages a 300 yard game within their first 2.28 years and 9.97 games started

    - QB's with multiple playoff starts average their first 300 yard game 2.13 years into their career (early second year) and/or 9 games started into their careers.

    - QB's with multiple playoff starts, and a 300 yard game averaged a 10.97 year career.

    - Rookies, 2nd year QB's, and Career Backups excluded, Franchise QB's average their first 300 yard game 1.66 years into their career or about their 7th start (This is admittedly subjective. Because of longevity, it is tough to quantify)

    - Matt Hasselback, Mike Vick, Joe Flacco, and Rusell Wilson, are the only QB's I have listed as Franchise, who took similar, or more starts to complete a 300 yard passing game.

***All in all, it does not look like a predictive stat in that completing it early in your career projects longevity. But the later a QB (games started) reaches a 300 yard game, the worse it is.***

I'm not saying to blow it up I'm saying put the icing on the cake, average players at any position are unnaceptable these days okay I take that back partially, average to below average starting left and right tackles are unnaceptable as well as at the other key positions like edge and #1 wr.

3- SpT coordinator: we have Danny Crossman 2.0.  I don't know where McD found Farwell, but he needs to be returned.  McD has done a terrible job overall at picking his staff, especially his coordinators.

6- WR: I don't think it is a case that Josh doesn't trust his receivers, Josh just isn't an accurate passer on 20+ yard passes.  I understand those are lower percentage plays, but he has to do a better job than overthrowing his WR by 5+ yards.

7- MLB: I don't see Edmunds being replaced.  Edmunds is an athletic MLB whose job is to primarily covering the middle slot/short area.  He assists the DTs in stopping the run.  We need a good pass rushing DE (get rid of Murphy), as well as another one tech DT that can push the pocket back and stop the run.  Star does not push the pocket back, he may occupy blockers, but he ain't getting to the QB...whether it is his job or not.

We know Josh can hit on the deep ball he did it last year very well down the stretch, I don't know if the coaches just have him air it out and overthrow on purpose to cut down interceptions or if he doesn't trust his guy to come down with the ball but something's off and I don't buy that he can't hit those throws.

This place really is doom & gloom after losses, huh?

Maybe it's the play calling and a mix of the online but we don't seem to manhandle anyone and we've been bad against the pass again I think Josh masks a lot of deficiencies between his own rushing and scrambling

I didn’t mean to be harsh, and certainly respect everyone’s takes. I would just respectfully disagree  with a few of them.

the oline play we have had this year has been the absolute best we have had for years. I don’t think you can let the eagles game color your view of how good they have been. I haven’t looked lately, but I think all the advanced stats bear out that the line has been good.

re Kroft, I think it is premature to draw any conclusions about him. I think he only caught one ball last week.

I don’t think the special teams have been bad and certainly not bad enough to fire the ST coordinator. The blocked EP was a flat-out missed block.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that we need to get better at WR and DE.

I agree the online play is better than last year by a good measure but not nearly as good as when wood was in the pivot with incognito next to him. Not even the same league. I see the online as slightly below average at this point. Morse is slightly above average and Ford is starting to look better the last couple games and will get his shot. But Dawkins needs to be upgraded and moved to gaurd or be depth and I would like Ford at guard as well and then get 2 above average tackles to be starters for next year depending on Ford's development. Re kroft he had the only 2 catches thrown his way for 32 yards. And yes bojo needs to be gone but I feel that our st coach needs to be jettisoned we should have fixed the issue before now.

  14. 3 minutes ago, JR in Pittsburgh said:

i agree. Sorry to OP, but there are a lot of bad takes here!

Hey brother that's fine by me that you feel that way, I cut deep here and I know people won't want to agree but it's true we need 3 new starting caliber olineman and 2 stud edge rushers plus a real #1 wide out and a better mlb and to move Edmunds to outside backer. It hurts I know but it's true and I'm the biggest Homer around

    1 minute ago, LABILLBACKER said:

    Offense

75% of the blame has to go to the offense. Josh's development is still on pace but the level of playmakers (toys) around him is just not there yet. Daboll has been a disappointment. Singletary should be playing more.

    Defense (15%)

They carried this team up until Miami. But are now getting abused at the LOS. Other than Jordan, the remaining 1 tech's have not performed. Edmunds great one play then gets lost in the wash the next. I think McD forgot Vincent Taylor is available? This defense generates zero turnovers or pressure.

    Special Teams (10%)

Farwell & Co are struggling. Bozo is dead last in the NFL in net punts. There were better punters available and McD ignored this important part of the team. No big returns from Robert's? No blocked punt and maybe we beat NE?

.... Lots of stuff to clean up for the 2nd half...but considering our schedule I can't see us with anything less than 10 wins.

Awesome take I feel the same thanks for the well thought out response

I think the game plan since preseason has been the failure here. They are attempting to morph into a deadly passing team and sadly for all of us Allen is not ready. I thought based on free agency and the draft this was going to be a power run season where the offensive line gets to maul opponents with pure power and we mix in a little play action, deep shots and Allen runs. Instead we’re chucking the ball all over the field, which is awesome but it’s not working. Time to slow the game down on offense, stop making silly penalties, control the clock, play smart football and let the defense stay fresh. Just my 2cents

I agree the game plan need a major tweak

  16. Good evening folks I just figured I'd point out what seems to have stood out to me personally the most while being at the Giants and eagles games and watching the them all a few times a piece. Also I'll be adding a funny story at the end about running into Fred Jackson after the eagles game in the lot outside the training facility.

1- The offensive line looks downright bad/awful way too often. There's a reason Allen's fumbled so much this year and last year. He's being jailbroken and gang tackled way way too often. Dawkins needs to be cut this coming off season. Morse is average to slightly above average he's a keeper. We need to replace everyone on the line not named morse. I'm sorry to hurt feelings but these 4 other guys should not be starting in the NFL period.

2- Kroft looks like the answer at tight end he's looked stellar in the small sample that we saw this week. He knows how to get open.

3- Our special teams coordinator needs to be fired immediately. How do we have this many blocked kicks against us in a season. This is a catastrophe and teams are taking note and exploiting it with great success. It needs to be fixed now.

4- I hate to say it but we need to let Jerry Hughes and Trent go this off-season. Neither have been effective this season. Shaq looks better than either at this point he's flashed  more speed and power than either of them and actually gets the qb down. I think Jordan Phillips is a stud and he's a nice rotation with Oliver, but we need a prime time edge rusher in the worst way heck we need 2 of them it's unnaceptable that Shaq is our best atm.

5-Play singletary he's got the bulk to be a 3 down back(he's short but a mjd type imo) and he would make our offense much more unpredictable. We've been here before with past rosters. If you don't have a 3 down back teams can key on pass or run and shut you down. Gore is solid but let singletary tire them out and then let Gore mop up coach has it backwards right now.

6-  We desperately need an open when he's not type of #1 wide receiver for an offense with Josh Allen at qb to be successful. Josh is tentative to trust any of our deep ball targets this season and I don't blame him. None of them are built to go up and get it. Duke is a nice 4th wr option and red zone threat but we don't have someone who can stretch the field and also go up and get it, dukes too slow for that and browns too small and is a perfect #2 a peerless price type.  Browns a precision route runner with great hands but he's not a jump ball/ bully the cb guy. We need someone who Allen is comfortable with throwing bombs to such as a Julio or Mike Evans type. Eli had Plax and Allen needs something along those lines to get to the next level with the deep ball(I'm talking bombs here folks).

7- Edmunds needs to replace Lorenzo and we need to get a better more instinctual mlb. I know this will hurt feelings but hey I see Edmunds lost a lot out there we need to let him use his athleticism and not his melon so often. We need a cj Mosely type for the mlb spot.

That's my assessment take it for what it's worth haha roast me for whatever seems outlandish lol.

Here's my quick story about Fred this past Sunday....

I saw Fred getting out of his Cadillac as my buddy and I left the game and walked to our lot as we walked by the field house. He had all blue from pants to hoodie and it was the standing buffalo on everything just like I was wearing haha. He was trying not to be seen but him and I locked eyes for a second(we were about 20 feet apart) and he could tell I recognized him. I say Fred!?!? He notions me over to him and we chatted for a minute or 2 and he was one of the most humble and kind players I've ever met(same as Fitz and jp as well as Byrd and George Wilson...Kyle all class acts...I met Fred before and got an autograph). He let me get a pic with him and then I said " Fred you're my father's favorite player of all time in the NFL and thanks for all the awesome memories, God bless you and your family." He responded by shaking my hand and then slapped my ass as if I just made a big play and walked off to the training center.

Priceless- it made up for how crappy the game went ????

Cheer up everyone Beanes gonna put us over the top this off-season and draft, then we'll be real contenders. This season is the final test run and tune up, next year we trade the Corvette in on a Ferrari and take the league by storm. Cheers I'm going to bed.

I was at the game. The weather was terrible for the Eagles too yet they managed to score 31 points.

I also remember being told many times that we needed Allen because he has a strong arm which is needed for strong swirling Ralph winds.  Bouncing passes into RBs and underthrowing a wide open WR with the wind at his back is concerning.

And he seriously needs to shake the fumblitis.

Good news is there is another game Sunday.

    Go BILLS !!!!

I feel like both the right tackle and right gaurd and left gaurd and left tackle all need to be replaced unfortunately and Morse has looked very average , too many jail breaks on Allen and yes his deep ball has been atrocious this year and I can't understand why. If he's not being gang tackled and jail broke on he wouldn't be fumbling like this because people would be blocking their man instead of being spun in a circle and helping Allen off the ground etc.

  18. I was there and honestly I blame the fumble on the play call we should've thrown the ball on that play, also I give Allen a solid B for the game he had no help from the line and the run game was weak. He threw 2 TDS in the worst of conditions and no picks. He continues to show his growth week in and week out. Trust me the weather was terrible. The only thing I want to see is more singletary than Gore and especially a nice short  passing game developed with singletary. The kid is special and should be what our offense starts with and leans on when times get tough whether it be the pass or run with him. Also Tyler kroft looks like the real deal we need to play him more and throw to him more often.

  19. I'll put it like this, crazy hold on John brown not called(drive stalled), tackling our punter(flag thrown then picked up drive stalled), after the whistle Josh allen inexplicable facemask and thrown to the ground by his face mask no call(drive stalled).  The biggest issue I had was with the offensive line not playing for *****(how many false starts can we get smh), and also our d against the run is terrible. I was at the game the weather played a huge factor. On the plus side the most important thing is working out, Josh Allen is maturing nicely and motor needs more targets and more touches in general he's lightning in a bottle. Drops mic

At least, that's what I tell myself not to do.  But I'm about to fail miserably.  If you aren't frustrated or in the mood for a rant, it's best to just move on now.

Being a Bills fan is hard.  We have to play better than every other team within a few games of our record to be taken seriously.  Granted, after 20 years of ineptitude, we've earned that.  When you wear a Bills shirt out, in non-Bills territory, you can hear the pity when someone says: "Hey, you guys aren't doing that bad this year."  I want to tell them to shove their pity up their ass.  The Bills are the team you pick to lose unless they are playing a bottom 5 team.  Until we prove otherwise, and do it convincingly, we are a .333-.450 team.

For example, no one cares that the Browns blew out the Ravens.  Why?  Because the Ravens have played complete games this season.  The Ravens have made the playoffs more seasons than they've missed.  That blow-out loss to the Browns can simply be dismissed as an off day against a division opponent.  Yet, we are 5-2 who beaten anyone and they are going to win their division while all is well.

We are coming up on the second half of the season, and to me, this is where coaches earn their paychecks.  This is why we've been 5-2 in years past and failed miserably.  Teams adjusted to us, but we didn't adjust back.  We've had offenses that were lighting up the league with Bledsoe and Chan, only to completely fizzle out in comedic fashion.  Once you reach week 8, teams have enough film to break down tendencies and whatever else.  So, when I see a Bills team that continues to come out of the gates flat at both the open and halftime, it gives me zero confidence they can make the big season adjustments.  I don't think Daboll is capable of fitting our scheme to our players.  He doesn't use any of our receivers more than 5 yards down field other than Brown or the occasional deep shot.  He thinks he's still coaching the Pats or Alabama where TE's and FB's magically play like Moss.

Today sucked because, as Bills fans, we are tired of being perceived as we are.  And before anyone tries to say, it's only one game, don't take it personally, etc; you are posting on a Bills forum where you have an avatar, rep, and probably a signature.  It's more to us here, right or wrong.  Today was about slamming home the point that we are finally a different Bills team with a better coaching staff and players.  That if you see us on your schedule, no matter who you are and what your record may be, that you should be genuinely worried.  That the networks should be hoping to get us on primetime.

But more importantly, for us fans, so you can believe you are going to see a complete game played more often than not.  That losses happen, but you can expect them to get em next time.  That our expensive defensive and offensive lines are going to knock the ***** out of the other team.  That you can be disappointed if we DON'T make the playoffs.

I'm done.  It's out.  It's been bottling up since the game.  I hated my BBFS all morning because it was strong.  I kept reading what everyone had to say on here and thought, it could be different.  But it fought back and that sinking feeling returned once the game started.  Even down 4, when you thought the 2019 Bills would kick it into gear and win the 2nd half, Thanos caught the returning hammer and beat us with it.  Yes, I went there.

Good evening everyone.  Let's sleep it off.

On the plus side the most important thing is working out, Josh Allen is maturing nicely. Drops mic
