I'll never understand the love for Chan.  The guy was a horrible head coach.  He lost me forever when he punted from the opponent's 34 yard line.

Agree, I also disagree with the idea that Chan was a brilliant offensive mind. He made his name as a position coach with the 80’s Broncos. If you look at his other stops, he didn’t have very successful offensive teams. Fitz just did what he does during Gailey’s time in Buffalo. He put together a stretch of magical games, and had a decent first half of the 2011 season. That’s what Fitz did at every stop after. Gailey didn’t do much after his time in Buffalo, and did little in the years before. That doesn’t sound like a guy with anything innovative.

All the marijuana defenders always flock to these stories, haha.

Sorry. It is still a federally banned substance, against the law in many states, and prohibited by the NFL.

It is completely idiotic of any player in the NFL to take a risk like that.

I don’t fully agree with everything I think you’re getting at, but the last paragraph couldn’t be more true. It doesn’t matter what side of the legalization argument you’re on. I’m sure there was a lot of stupidity involved in this arrest. States that haven’t legalized aren’t going out looking for offenders. People get busted when they do something incredibly stupid.

Things like driving around at 2am with smoke rolling out of their car windows. The type of stuff no one should be doing, regardless of the legal status. This type of obnoxious behavior is the stuff that gets people in trouble.

I started to watch and it was interesting, but I wish there were a transcript to skim over.

    I don't do podcasts or videos--I am a reader.

Agree, most people waste words when speaking. Reading gives us the luxury of skimming over those things. I’ve watched a few videos on various things such as auto repair, only to discover a twenty minute video that could have explained the solution in twenty seconds.

WUT? He laughed at a joke about his billionaire money launderer (funneled money to his TB12 enterprise to avoid salary cap restrictions), Robert Kraft, then awkwardly and unprecedently leaned in and told a comedian "don't say that s#!t again." Okay. Yeah, that's confident energy at a roast when a 100% true topic is raised. Defending him is a funny bit.

Celebs typically have fragile ego’s. I’m fully convinced most jokes at these roasts are shared with the person being honored before they are read aloud. I think it’s akin to believing any “reality” television.

There were plenty of Kraft jokes...did you even watch it?  The person getting roasted still has to agree to do the show, and its not uncommon at all to have a specific thing or two that are off limits.  Only thing off limits with Kraft was the happy ending jokes and then of course Brady's kids.

Which is why I edited but apparently you replied before the edit posted.  I just cant fathom how it can be labeled "unwatchable" and I suspect the poster who posted that link to the shock jock radio host who makes a living saying unpopular and controversial things probably didn't even watch it themselves.  I mean there are multiple on here already slamming it who admittedly didn't even watch it.

It reminds me when I went and worked on the broadcast team for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.  So many people told me how much it sucks there and how bored I will be...just to find out SLC and the surrounding areas were all awesome and I had an amazing time there and that literally all of the people telling me how bad it was had never even actually even been to Utah.

I find it annoying when people come in and spew negativity on things they didn't even experience.

I understand, but regardless, Kraft’s “transgressions” being off limits for jokes is super lame. Krafts’s antics were actually one of the more humorous parts of that franchise. I’d find him likable if he could handle a joke. Just my opinion though.

One of the comedians Andrew Schulz confirmed on a podcast that there were only two rules…no happy ending jokes about Mr. Craft and nothing about Brady’s kids.  He also confirmed that when Brady went up to Jeff Ross after his massage joke during his set that it was real and a real warning.

Ross was probably trying to toe the line by making a massage joke instead of a happy ending joke, but Brady squashed that immediately.  Doesn’t sound like there was any bad blood about it or anything, Ross just tried to get one in without mentioning happy endings and Brady shut it down before more tried.

The Kraft rule seems super lame. People are claiming this was some fun free for all, yet they make Kraft jokes off limits.

  7. I wanted to like this league, but quality of play is always going to be an issue outside of the NFL. Modern football is all about the passing game, and there aren’t even enough NFL QB’s to make every NFL game watchable. It only becomes worse when you create more leagues. College football has the luxury of future NFL stars being on the field. Spring leagues are essentially battles between NFL third stringers. That’s very difficult to get excited about.

If the Patriots knew he was a violent killer, they wouldn't have signed him.  Second, the ex Pats werent the ones making AH jokes, it was the comics.

I get that, but I find it difficult to believe the team and players didn’t know he had gang affiliations. Former players have said they’d joke with him about it during games. It just didn’t matter to the Pats when he helped them win.

Enough crying about the AH jokes.. it’s a roast wtf, the dude was a POS who ended lives and ruined many others including his own child.

To the people complaining about it, don’t watch roasts, they’re no topics off limits and certainly not AH and him doing the world a favour and self deleting.

I wasn’t offended. I’m not one to be easily offended, but I thought NFL teams were supposed to be brotherhoods. Anytime I’ve seen groups of guys work together they become close knit, no matter how much they like each other. There’s certain things you’d think are off limits once part of that brotherhood. I’m not expecting them to condone AH’s actions, but the Pats organization had no issue when he helped them win games. They knew exactly who he was, and didn’t care. Now they make jokes about him. I’m not defending the memory of AH, rather questioning the character of that organization.

i;d honestly like mahomes more if he wasn't surrounded by his trashy family.

I couldn’t agree more, but it makes me wonder if it’s really just his PR team that makes him look so good. You know what they say about the company you keep. I think Patrick’s public image is carefully maintained, and he’s not dumb enough to throw this opportunity at greatness away. He does deserve credit for that.

He might be the best QB ever.  He’s ended 3 of our last 4 seasons.  I don’t like the guy.  Not sure why any bills fan would like him.  But hate is a different story.  I don’t hate him.

From the outside, i think he could have it a lot better than he does.  You're about to be a billionaire and you get to choose one person to spend the rest of your life…. And you choose her.   The biggest decision one could make….and you blow it in such a big way.   🤦🏻‍♂️ sorry, not sorry.

I’ll never understand why so many football players feel the need to get married in their 20’s at all. It doesn’t make sense to me.

I swear the Bills will eventually end up the only NFL team that plays outdoors.

Buffalo has a reputation for bad winter weather, but the NFL keeps expanding the season. The season goes so late into winter that almost everywhere has a greater potential of being impacted by extreme winter weather. There’s a huge difference between December and late January/February.

As much as I have been critical of McDermott's defenses falling apart in the playoffs, what would it look like if Elam was at least competent and one of the recent DE picks was as good at being a DE as Oliver is at DT?

It could be a totally different defense

Yes, I mentioned this in a game day post during the divisional round. It’s possible we beat the Chiefs if any of those guys made just one big play.

    afc game.

i go back and forth. I Wanted McDermott gone after 13 sec. I still want him gone. Hes going to be Marty schott. Or Tony Dungy .

beane has spawned gms in Carolina , nyg , and some top personal ppl ( I think

    hous ?)

I think it’s generally hard to convince players to come to buffalo. Ny taxes. Not a major city. Stop w the “why wouldn’t they want to come play w Josh Allen” that’s not enough of a reason for top Players. Von basically was all in on Dallas and we had to

overpay and promise some sort of gm in training gig

I’ve never worried how difficult it might be to get players here in Buffalo. NFL champions are built through the draft, and solid free agency signings. This isn’t like pro baseball where big splash free agents win titles.

I dont disagree and that is sad

I couldn’t agree more, expectations are going to be lower, but they should never be lower with Allen at QB. They’ve only lowered because the roster has been mismanaged. It takes time for poor decisions to catch up to a franchise. The overpaid veteran players and plethora of average defensive linemen picks have finally caught up with us. The regime talks like this is an act of nature due to aging veterans, but it’s really weak early round draft picks over the years that hurt us.

I would like to see some non-anecdotal data for this assertion.

A few years back an analysis was run on the Bills draft record during their drought. Nearly 20 years of data. In that span, it was shown via analysis that if the Bills front office had simply followed a publicly available player ranking (think: Kiper, McShay, etc), they would have drafted more impact players than they actually did.

A similar one was down for Oakland I believe.

Thats right - the professional NFL front offices of multiple teams, with access to dozens of scouts, in-person interviews, and player data galore, was beaten out by a generic player ranking list.

Too many people buy into the “expert” fallacy. That simply because someone does something for a living, that they are better at that job than someone who doesn’t do it for a living. It’s not always accurate.

You can know a player inside out, but that’s the college version of that guy. There’s no way to predict player success with one hundred percent certainty. Some GM’s obviously do better than others, but this isn’t science. NFL GM’s simply speculate with more knowledge than the average fan, but it’s still a game of chance.

  15. I respect this take, but I think differing opinions is what makes a football message board exist. We can’t all say “great draft, Beane knows everything, and can see the future”. I’ve always really liked Beane, and he certainly knows more about football than I, but that doesn’t mean he’s always going to be right. Brilliant musicians have horrible albums, and it’s ok to say we don’t like them too if we’re looking for an analogy. Beane has a vision, and it’s different than what mine would be, that’s alright, but NFL GM’s aren’t always right. Discussing whether we like a draft isn’t that bizarre. Beane might be right, but there is a chance this draft is a bust.

  16. I still can’t believe how little our stockpile of fifth picks has been discussed. It’s probably just me, but I found it bizarre. We collected picks in a manner that indicated a likely big trade. Instead, we draft a bunch of defensive players in the fifth round. I’m not sure how this was the best use of wheeling and dealing in the draft. This was a drought era type draft, and I think we’ll pay for years to come. At least we got our high motor lunch pail safety for Tyreek Hill to run past.

  17. 1 hour ago, KentuckyBillsFan said:

The problem with this draft is it shows there’s no change in philosophy. They’ll add to the offense when they have to but the priority is getting “team captain” guys on defense. They’re doubling down on a strategy that’s failed.

    Beane and McDermott won’t change.

Exactly, The inability of these guys to adjust will be their eventual downfall. I’ve loved everything McD and Beane has done for us, it’s time to change course, but they’ll keep drafting upstanding citizens who play defense over anything else. That’ll be the demise of this golden era of Bills football. I hope I’m wrong.

  18. Beane is absolutely incorrect imo. This team is not in transition. This team has Josh Allen, and that’s all it takes to maintain some sense of continuity. This regime places too much emphasis on feel good stories and “good guys”, so they overvalue the loses this offseason. Most offseason loses were guys on the downside of their career who didn’t contribute much last year anyway. We have a foundation in place, although with several missing pieces (wide receiver for example). loses

Loses like Poyer, Davis, Diggs, White, and Morse are not cause for a rebuild. I think the process is getting stale, and this regime doesn’t know how to react next. Beane has been phenomenal in Buffalo, but neither him or McD strike me as guys who are highly open to change.

  19. Just now, H2o said:

Meh, meh, and meh. This draft, so far, has been the worst I've seen from Beane. The trades don't bother me. What we've done after that has. Just my 2. Very underwhelming.

I agree, but the trades do bother me because the draft shouldn’t be underwhelming with all those picks. I’m struggling to understand why he stockpiled all those picks. The value of a bunch of fifth round picks aren’t great, unless you bundle them for a trade, which seems unlikely at this point.
