You may be right, but he's got more tread left than the typical 33 year old, being a backup type guy most of his career.

I saw Murray a few times last year with the Broncos.  He looked fresh.

Definitely has more tread than average. Could be a boon down the stretch if Harris goes down.

He's a fool if he signs here.  He'll be inactive most weeks and what's left of his career will be over.  Ask TJ Yeldon and Duke Johnson.  Breida is lucky he has a rapport with Daboll.

Not necessarily. He’s 33 playing a position where guy’s generally age out 3-5 years earlier due to physicality. He may be perfectly happy preserving his body a bit, making a million, taking a mentor role and getting a shot at a ring. 🤷‍♂️ Heck, he might even be interested in coaching after he retires. If that’s the case being around in a lesser role could be a benefit. Who knows.

I don't agree with this way of looking at it.  Montana's coach had nothing to do with the pin point dimes Montana threw on a regular basis.

Here is how I would look at it...what if Brady and Montana switched places?  If Brady played during Montanas era where QB's got regularly smashed, what would his career look like?  I mean we saw him lose to a mediocre Giants team twice in the SB just because the Giants actually got to Brady.  What about Montana?  What would his career look like playing in an era where you can't touch the WR's and can't touch the QB's?  How much longer would Montana play if he was getting concussed from massive hits that would be illegal today?

Personally, I think there is no chance Brady replicates his success or longevity playing during Montana's era.  Don't get me wrong, not saying Brady couldn't have still had a great career, but he doesn't get as many rings as he did and he sure as heck doesn't play as long as he did.  And when I look at Montana, if I plug him into the NE offense during the Brady era, I honestly can say that he still wins as many as he did, probably as many as Brady, maybe even more.

There is no such thing as truly swapping them, therefore, Brady's accomplishments are unmatched and has absolutely earned the GOAT title.  But, I don't necessairly know that he was actually a better QB than Montana, or vice versa.  I mean Montana won 4 Super Bowls by 36 in SF.  He would have won at least 5 or 6 if not for the back issues that led them to change to Steve Young (who won 1 and should have won 2).  He went to KC and took over an offense that does not have a single good player on it and took them to the AFCCG and 2 straight playoff trips before he retired at age 38.

I think its fair to argue that had Montana got to stay with the Niners and play well into his 40's, he likely gets 7, maybe more rings.  But his body didn't allow for that thanks to the substantially more physical era he played compared to Brady.

Pats lost more than Brady when he left.  Not sure why you are ignoring that fact.  And the Niners were taken over by a HOF QB.  So your argument is that a HOF QB made the pats better but you ignore the fact that the Niners had Steve Young take over, another HOF QB.  And Montana went to KC...go google the roster of KC that year, I 100% gurantee you have never heard of any of the guys on that offense because they were not good...and Montana took them to the AFCCG and playoffs both years there despite playing with a bad back and no talent around him at the end of his career.

Regarding the last paragraph. People tend to forget that there was a massive amount of coaching turnover when Walsh left. Dennis Green left first, then Holmgren who took Sherman Lewis, Ray Rhodes, Jon Gruden, etc. Steve Young took over with the roster intact, but the prior offensive coaches were gone. Granted Holmgren was replaced with Mike Shanahan.

None of the Brady to Montana stuff is apples to apples. Montana played in an era where dynasties were more prevalent, QBs could be brutalized, there was no FA, the USFL sniped top talent, speed could be neutralized with physicality, etc. The top of the league had a concentration of talent, and the moribund franchises couldn’t over pay for it (why I view Young’s time as a Buc a bad indicator of his talent).

I agree with him as far as Mahomes goes. That man at that time only losses in the playoffs were to Brady. He could have gotten a lot more if he wanted to, maybe he like Allen saw how BIG deals hurt the team.. look at Rogers, always got top tier deals but has won 1 SB and the Packers always under perform in the playoffs.  While Brady took less and constantly was in the SB and championship games.

That likely was a large part of why they accepted those contracts. They realize they’re competing against each other and they’ll need that extra lineman, wr, etc. They’re also aware that winning gets endorsement cash. Heck, Montana still gets endorsements.

Don't we already have an older experienced vet on the roster, to mentor the younger pass rushers?

Yup, a 6’ 3” 250 pound future HOFer whose pass rushing moves don’t directly translate to Rouseau’s body type and physical tool kit. I’m all for an extra vet that can help younger guys improve, particularly if they come at a low ring chasing price and can effectively fill the same role in McDermotts rotation. If you prefer Jonathan, Shaq or a rookie to fill that role I understand…. I just don’t have the faith in Eric Washington to expect improvements there. 🤷‍♂️

Perfect mentor for Groot - same body type.

This. Groot could learn a lot from him about how to maximize leverage and set up pass rushing moves with reach. Epenesa at 6’5” could probably learn some things too. If Campbell is willing to be a mentor this could be a boon going forward for the younger pass rushers.

    This , all day.
But as long as he is willing to do a prove it year, not sure how that injury recovery will go. So even as back up tackle ?
Not paying him as a starter no way no how, though :)

If you sign the guy it’s for the future. You get him cheap for 2-3 years and let him rehab this year.

I keep hearing Green Bay can wait for months to close this deal the way his contract and pay deadline is structured, but isn’t the draft really the deadline? They want this years pick before the draft, right? Am I missing something?

It might. Wilson grew up idolizing the guy. 🤷‍♂️

This ain't gonna be like playing the Bears , Lions and Vikings.

Not to mention, the NY media will turn his hair gray by October...LOL

He’s been slammed around by some of those Bears and Viking defenses. The media is probably what will make or break him. NYC reporters aren’t going to throw softball questions.

Per todays NY Post the Packers can drag this thing out until week 1 of the regular season. The deadline for Rodgers 58.3 bonus doesn't kick in to guaranteed salary until then. How funny would it be if Zach Wilson has to start week 1.

Yup. Plus if he gets fed up and retires post June 1 the cap hit gets spread out too. If you want a good laugh hit up a Jets message board. I swear half of the jets fans hate him already. 😂

The best part is that there is zero incentive for the Packers to hurry the deal unless the Jets greatly overpay. In fact, it behooves GB to drag the negotiations out past June 1st so that Rodgers cap hit can be spread across two seasons. So reasonably the Pack should ask for at least the Russel Wilson package. He's won more MVPs, played in more playoff games, won SB MVP, 4 First Team All-Pros, even if you back out the age difference. GB doesn't need to budge. There is no incentive on their part. In fact, they should not only ask for the Russel Wilson deal, they should also ask for NYJ to pay a good portion of his money owed if they want it done faster. Seattle proved you don't give up a HoF QB for peanuts.

    Here's my dream scenario:

The Jets spend the rest of the run up to the draft trying to go thrift store cheap on the GB. Offering two 2nd rounders or something insulting. During which time, Lamar finds a non-colluding NFC team to pay him. Rodgers does his passive-aggressive diva thing the whole time trying to neg the Packers into "doing right by him," forgetting that he's held them hostage multiple times over 15 years. Most recently last year. The entire time, the Jets fanbase, who has already assumed this deal was done, being wailing and gnashing their teeth. They send Rich Eisen, Greenberg, and George RR Martin hate Tweets everyday which eventually makes it onto the broadcast fodder. Well except Martin. He just paints figurines and doesn't write books. The Jets will either mortgage their future picks to overpay, or GB is annoyed enough from being slandered on sports radio for months that they pull out and lose nothing except the money they were going to pay Rodgers anyway.

The full dream scenario is the packers pull out post June 1 after the insults and file an evidence backed tampering charge. Jets lose out on Rodgers, Lamar, and still lose a 1st round pick.

Not necessarily a question directed at you (unless you can). This was on his scout report:

What does the bolded mean by "front side" of gap?  I understand -fill the gap- but where is the front side?

IIRC, beats the pulling Olinemen to the gap.

    Not worth it then.

You’re probably correct. Although, it could be if they’re looking at him as late season depth this upcoming season and a starter the year after. The money would have to work, but injuries are one of the few ways to get top talent at a low price.

There's no way Brown could beat him out unless Collins gets injured or dies.

Collins torn his ACL and MCL late in the season. It’s entirely possible he’s not ready by training camp.

Nobody said the Bills are well run did they? But in comparison, Rodgers waiting on the bench for 5 years.. Love has wasted 3 years, and those 8 years yielded exactly zero SB appearances, so was it worth it?

Considering they had a first ballot hall of fame QB on their roster for 30 years and couldn’t come up with more than they did, year, they wasted a lot.

They could have also moved up to get Any of the other 3 HOF QBs in the draft where they wasted picks on Losman.  Or they could have admitted they struck out and waited on drafting a QB instead of going all  Buddy Nix and forcing it anyway.

Rodgers sat for three years (05’-07’) like Jordan Love, not five.

As for HOF QBs, there were several others competing against Favre and Rodgers in the NFC during that timeframe. Favre lost to Aikman’s Cowboys three times before getting to a SB. Lost to Elway in his second SB. He then lost to Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Vick, McNabb, Eli Manning, etc.

Rodgers is a bit more interesting as he didn’t face the same number of HOF QBs. Still lost to Warner and Brady. Lost to the 49ers an inordinate amount of times to sandwich his career. He’s had plenty of talent around him though. Even the past few years he’s been playing with multiple probowlers and all-pros on both sides of the ball. Heck Micah Hyde was stuck behind multiple pro bowlers for the start of his career. There have been some freakish plays mixed in that rival our own “13 seconds”. Most notably the onside kick against Wilson’s Seahawks and the “Fail Mary” with replacement refs that robbed GB of home field advantage. Having a pro bowl DT retire mid career, pro bowl CB and all pro safety retire from injuries mid Super Bowl window also screwed that team. Most folks don’t remember how good some of those Packers teams were. For example, that Super Bowl team had a HOF safety, 3x all pro safety, and two pro bowl corners one of which was rounding into a top 5 CB in Sam Shields.

Winning Super Bowls is difficult. We’ve all had our expectations slanted by the Patriots success and most recently Mahomes/Reid and the Chiefs. McCarthy certainly screwed the pooch with game management several years against other playoff coaches, but he was/is no Dick Jauron.

Probably didn’t help that no one was allowed to research any of this for decades lest their patients brains get cracked into a hot skillet like and egg. 🤪
