My take on this is his play much better this year. It just so happens to be a contract year. That is no coincidence. Should he be rewarded if his only motivation is money. Where was this play the years previous? I say let him walk. We can find another LB in the draft

I had this thought and would like to agree with it. However, it’s also the first year where he’s had reliable and deep talent in front of him with Oliver, Jones, Settle, and Phillips. Not to mention Von Miller balling out with Groot improving. Star wasn’t doing Edmunds any favors these past few years, and were seeing that now. I think we’ve also seen the difference he makes with regards to other players pass defense. Edmunds shrinks zones, and he’s gonna get paid.

Hardly the same as bringing in Stafford, OBJ (on a short term win now deal) and Von Miller (on a short term win now deal).  But I guess a guy off the street like Klein is the same sort of win now commitment.

I’d say so. They certainly could have procured more physically talented players that’d be more beneficial in future years, but opted for Klien and Marlowe who know the team and already have fill in rolls on defense and special teams. When you look at Hines adjustment/acclimation period it seems pretty clear that McBeane opted for weathering the injury storm instead of upgrading next season.

Not to hijack, but where was Ed Oliver, esp after that monster game?

One intentional grounding away from from having a safety in back to back weeks (ball spot depending).

  4. This team is a bit insulated due to having Shula on the staff. They could also hire Reich into Shula’s role as insurance against Dorsey getting a HC offer as well. As it is though I believe Brady is being groomed to take over for Dorsey, so we’ll see how it plays out. QBs help to make OCs and Allen’s already played well enough to help get Daboll a promotion.

It appears to be that way.  Bills defense has seemingly played a lot more single high safety this year for various reasons since Hyde has been out, which forces Johnson into more man coverage.  They also have been poor at switching off on receivers(Banjo) on plays where receivers criss cross/run picks near the line, probably due to some growing pains for the rooks(Benford and Elam), which ends up leaving guys open too often as well.

It's probably some combination of all of those to be honest.  They are showing reps of a lot of different scenarios, but the one constant seems to be he has not been as effective in man coverage and that he is being asked to play a lot more of it this year than in years past.

I'll make sure to let you know the next time I have eggs somewhere so you can check it out 😉

Teams have also been isolating him with their better receivers when running RPO’s. It’s been exploiting the coverage scheme and the run defense scheme, and Johnson’s lack of size. The past few weeks that’s been amplified by the injuries around him. Without Edmunds and Rousseau in the game Johnson has added pressure in run support and he’s been caught peeking in the backfield too long.

Not just cook edmunds look good against king Henry to

Edmunds is one of four LBers in the league(Barr, Campbell, Warner) with the size to make Henry’s stiff arm useless. It’s a big help on the edge. For some reason he also seems to up his game against the guy. Makes me wonder if McD/Frazier tell him it’s Henry first instead of pass first against the titans.

There were a few throws last week over Klein's outstretched fingertips that would have been tipped by Edmunds or the throw wouldn't have been made due to his presence there.

Happened in the Vikings game. Cousins was having fits with Edmunds length and range. Two tips and a few poorly arched balls.

Like I said about Dane, Hamlin has some real nice skills. The way we are comparing is suspect. If you expect Hyde and get Hamlin, you are going to be very disappointed. Hamlin could be a Hyde with more experience and coaching. He’s clearly not that in year 2.

When your top leaders and QBs of the secondary (Hyde) are gone, or severely limited (Poyer), and your best cover guy is - wherever he is in his recovery - you get what we are seeing. This experience is going a long, long way toward their development, but is in no way an even exchange for our starting back end. When only Taron is left in his actual starting position, you’re screwed no matter who you have waiting in the wings.

Dane is a decent #2 or a wonderful #3. He’s not ready for #1. Hamlin is a high ceiling backup with lots of potential. He’s likewise not ready for prime time, yet.

Edmunds also shrinks other guys zones due to how rangy and big he is. Working around him was a problem in the first half for Cousins the other week. The change after he went out was notable; flatter and shallower passes in the intermediate routes haven’t been contested in the past two weeks.

Internet meme.  Not something I can post here.   But worth the google to get the visual.

I know the episode. I was pointing out Randy leaning up against the lamp post nutz in the wheelbarrow, puffing in front of the cop while singing “Buffalo soldier”.

Not only a hell of a player but an absolute dog.      Not many guys with Randy Marsh Wheelbarrell nuts on this team right now but Poyer is one of them.  Glad he feels ready to play.

    Allusion to Buffalo soldier?
