  1. I'm surprised at how many people in this thread so far have bought into the OP's bullsh!t. Modrak was checking out TSW on his laptop ?
  2. Exactly. Of the 4 groups within the current Republican party - Neocons (Bush/Cheney), Paleocons (Pat Buchanan), Moderates (McCain before he won the 2008 presidential nomination), and Libertarians (Ron Paul) - the Neocons have the least in common with Rand's philosophy. The Iraq War, corporate welfare, large budget deficits, Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, born again Christianity, etc...none of these ideas sit well with Objectivists. Of course, would you expect a poster like conner to understand political nuances? In his simple mind, all Republicans = bad and all Democrats = good on all issues for all eternity.
  3. You conveniently refuse to elaborate on any of the negative aspects of socialism. How about the limitations on social mobility? The loss of personal economic freedoms? The undermining of work ethics? The reduction of overall national wealth? The lowering of technological advancements? The higher levels of unemployment? The inefficient distribution of basic goods and services? Your limited description of socialism makes it sound like utopia, but the reality is that all of the countries in Europe and South America that embrace this economic model have loads of problems...problems about which we culturally isolated Americans rarely hear. And for the record, I myself am a part of the teen/20's generation of Americans that actually likes capitalism. There are plenty more like me, so stop making my generation out to be a bunch of mooching, lazy, stupid, slacker lemmings. Anyone with a modicum of self-discipline and personal pride would prefer the capitalistic model. You may be content with a watered-down education, a small hut, cans of soup, and a paltry stipend...but most of us aspire for a life greater than that of a glorified house pet (and for those who can't achieve much due to circumstances beyond their control, there's a concept called "private charity").
  4. We should do all of the following: 1. Trade Parrish for a 4th rounder 2. Trade Lynch for a 3rd rounder 3. Trade Peters for a 2nd rounder 4. Trade Evans for a 1st rounder Who needs proven football talent when you can have lots and lots of DRAFT PICKS?!
  5. Was this a typo or are you naturally this retarded? A proven Pro Bowl LT and the 11th overall pick for the 21st pick, 28th pick, and a third rounder?
  6. If you're speaking of the natural landscape, that is a HIGHLY debatable statement. Niagara Falls, Grand Island, Great Lakes coastlines, Southern Tier mountains, Finger Lakes, Genesee Valley, Letchworth State Park? Rhode Island is nice too, of course. I've been to Providence and Narragansett Bay before.
  7. That's a reasonable opinion. My own: 4 division winners: NE, Pitt, Indy, SD. 7 teams that the Bills should be better than: Jax, Hou, Cincy, Clev, Den, KC, Oak. That leaves 3 of 4 wild card teams that the Bills must beat out: NYJ, Mia, Balt, Tenn.
  8. The "yes" votes are about 50% right now, which is fairly positive considering the team has missed the playoffs 9 straight years and there are major roster holes remaining at TE, OL, DL, and LB. I voted "no" at the moment, but would be willing to change this vote if the following actions are taken (or something along these lines): 1. Sign Cato June 2. Sign Kendall Simmons or trade for a starting LG 3. Draft a DE in the first round 4. Draft a TE in the second round 5. Draft a DT in the third round
  9. I know you mean to criticize Trent, but it almost seems like you're directing more of the blame at the coaching staff here? Look, no one here is denying that Trent played terribly against Cleveland. He had an abysmal 1st quarter and then played scared for the rest of that game. But don't you find it curious how last season Trent was 7-0 against 4-3 defenses and 0-5.5 against 3-4 defenses (counting the SF game as half of a loss)? Don't you also find it strange how the Bills cut their starting LG, cut their starting TE, refused to re-sign either C, and were heavily pursuing a veteran #2 WR culminating in the T.O. blockbuster acquisition? Something tells me that the overall offense can't match up well against defenses with a big NT and versatile OLB's, and that the Buffalo front office believes the problem goes well beyond the timid tendencies of an inexperienced 2nd year QB. As for JP, he's been in the league for 5 years. Take away his scripted first drives in the second half of 2006 and the occasional bombs to Evans, and he has shown nothing. He's nothing more than a gunslinging dumb jock QB, and the days of gunslinging dumb jock QB's successfully directing pro offenses ended once Bellysick and the salary cap arrived. Still waiting on any of the 31 other teams to give JP a second chance....
  10. And of sign of basic QB intelligence, knowing when to get rid of the ball and avoid the 10 yard sack w/ fumble or intercepted deep pass to a triple-covered Evans.
  11. But that was before the housing bust. The entire state of Florida is taking it particularly hard and will continue to do so for the duration of the economic depression. Believe it or not, Jacksonville's economy is not much greater than Buffalo's. How many Fortune 500 companies are there? And both cities have about the same metro population, but at least Buffalo can draw from Rochester and Southern Ontario. Plus Buffalo has 35 extra years of NFL tradition (not to mention the Buffalo All-Americans during the 1920's) and a proven pro football fan base that can sell out games for a terrible product without resorting to tarps. Of course, the wild card in all this discussion is the privately funded stadium in L.A. Until that happens, talk of any franchise relocation is pointless.
  12. Agreed. This should be our base formation: RB Lynch (Pro Bowler) WR Owens (Pro Bowler) WR Evans (Pro Bowler) WR Reed (Trent's favorite target) TE ? (pass-catching TE in the draft...Jared Cook in the 2nd round?) Josh Reed is such a good blocker that he can fill in for the 2nd TE or FB we'd otherwise use. Now all we need to do is find a LG to replace Dockery and
  13. What's the problem with that statement? Didn't free agency begin at midnight Eastern Time? Nashville is in the Central Time Zone.
  14. Didn't say that, although I should have elaborated a bit more in my first post. I don't think Bills management will go after another SS because I think they are happy "enough" with Bryan Scott and are going to spread their financial resources elsewhere.
  15. Bryan Scott.
  16. Entering the 4th quarter, we were missing White (ejected), Smith (game day scratch), and Montour (game day scratch)...3 of our 4 best defenders. Plus the refs were horrible. No way we lose that game were it the playoffs. I'm confident the Bandits will regroup from this home loss. Still the best team in the league.
  17. Bingo. Specifically economic freedom. It's how a tiny agrarian society turned into a world economic superpower in a relatively short period of time. Quality of living arose for everyone, including the poor.
  18. Um, no we weren't. JP is a dumb meathead jock who can't do anything productive once his #1 WR is covered on the deep route. Essentially, JP = a more durable RJ. Fitzpatrick doesn't have JP's physical skills, but should more than make up for it with a brain fit for a modern NFL QB. Someone who can sustain drives and keep our defense from having to be on the field for 3/4 of the game.
  19. Here are the 7 starting positions that need to be filled: WR: Hardy wasn't the #2 man needed to take heat off of Evans, and Reed is nothing more than a good #3. TE: Royal was cut. LG: Dockery was cut. C: Fowler and Preston were terrible last year and are not expected to be re-signed. DE: Chris Kelsay. Enough said. DT: Kyle Williams is a nice backup. OLB: Ellison is not even a nice backup, and Crowell isn't returning. The Bills have the 11th and 43rd overall picks in the draft, which are both high enough to land prospects with a high probability of starting immediately in September. So that leaves 5 starting-caliber players that the team must grab in the coming days. Coles would be an excellent fit at #2 WR. I'm much more skeptical about Winborn at OLB and Hangartner at C and Simmons at LG. Sounds like more of the same 3rd tier scrubs we've been entertaining since 2004. We haven't heard anything regarding free agents to fill the TE/DT/DE voids. The front office is probably expecting to fill the TE position with a high draft pick, but the silence with the defensive line is very, very troubling. Do they even acknowledge the weaknesses there, or do they honestly believe a healthy Schobel will make everything okay?
  20. Really? I'd think the top 5 would be: 1. Oakland 2. San Diego 3. Jacksonville 4. New Orleans 5. Minnesota
  21. Holy ... all the holes on this roster and you guys want to burn another first day draft pick on a safety?! Has Jauron taken over this message board with multiple user names? We already have 5 quality safeties: Scott starts at SS, Whitner starts at FS, Simpson can play FS, Wendling can play SS and special teams, Wilson can play FS and special teams and emergency WR. How about a starting DE? A starting OLB? A starting center? A starting left guard? A starting TE? Any of these can be found with that 2nd rounder of ours. Just saying...
  22. Two wrongs don't make a right you stupid !@#$.
  23. It's historically been a close race between the two, but the 9 year playoff drought plus the inevitable Toronto/LA relocation in about 4 years has pushed hockey and the Sabres into a permanent lead...IMO.
