Why are people shocked that bodine has some value?

He started like 45 straight for the Bengals and line play around the league is piss poor

He is still easily one of the best 40-45 centers in the world

Shhh. Common sense doesn't work here.

Beane did a great job of signing versatile linemen which made Bodine expendable even knowing Morse injury history

Im not sure what side of the commentary I’m on here. Is it a sadder commentary about last year’s OL that two of the starters were gonna be cut or is it a happier commentary on the quality of players Beane brought in to replace them?

I choose to believe the latter.

Both of those guys shipped out that were presumed cuts were also Beane picks/signings

LOL to suggest that that Russell Bodine could make our roster now is preposterous.  This new guy at ESPN has been pretty spot on til this tweet.

Preposterous is a bit of hyperbole but you are probably right. I don't trust Long at C but he and Feliciano can play if Morse gets another concussion. Only chance Bodine makes the roster is if Ford is starting at RT and that forces Feliciano or Long into starting RG spot.

  3. Probably means Nsekhe is starting at RT and Ford at RG. Teller can't play center. And he really is not that good. I wasn't that high on Feliciano or Long but they both can play center or guard.

Good value in return by Beane. Nice move.

Keeping my promise to not look to the past and only evaluate moves made by Beane in the moment

  4. I think when you look at All-Pro status you have to consider the player but also the competition.  There is no small market bias. But there is a winner/loser bias. A great player on a losing team may not get his due. If the Bills win and they have a great season by a player he will get recognized.

I think competition at safety is too good in AFC for Hyde or Poyer to make it unless one of them has a high INT total.

My top candidates based on performance potential and competition in order would be:

    1. Hughes - who are the other dominant pass rushers in the AFC?  Myles Garrett and who else?

    2. Edmunds - is there an elite middle linebacker in AFC?

    3. White - he is as good as any, but I wonder how often he will be tested. I favor using him in a matchup man-zone scheme where he takes the opponent #1. That would get him national recognition.  I think McD and Frazier did some of this last year but not frequently.

    4. Dawkins - agree with others. He could make a big step forward in a contract year. He will need Allen to perform well to be recognized I think. But again, is there an elite LT in the AFC like Joe Thomas? No. It is an open competition.

  5. Not a bad topic but a draft pick does nothing to help this team this year. If Barkley never takes a snap all year it means Allen is healthy and playing well. I'm fine with that. If Barkley has to play he looks competent but who really knows. If Allen gets hurt and misses a game or two but shows us he is the franchise QB in the games he plays, and Barkley plays well in relief,  maybe trade him for ab asset in the off-season.

But at this point Barkley in almost every scenario is more valuable on the Bills roster than anything they would get in return.

  6. Different receivers.  Brown is a homerun hitter that stretches the defense. He only competes with Foster for targets.

Zay is the guy that should catch 80 balls a year with 60+ for first downs with a mix of short, intermediate, and deep routes. He is limited in all three of those phases lacking elite speed, route running, size, and catch percentage. Therefore you need to find his niche. Beasely should be the guy now that get 100 targets this year on short and intermediate routes. That leaves Zay battling it out for a spot in three WR sets. He is s willing blocker but not great run after catch guy. Therefore he can lineup in bunch formations with someone like McKenzie but probably will not be the target.

Can he get 75 targets in a three WR set as the flanker or Z receiver??? Maybe. I could see him as a WR in run heavy formations that they then pass out of. Deep hitch and/or combo routes with a TE after play action.

That said, Duke Williams can probably do all that out of the Z spot and is bigger, stronger, faster, and catches the ball.

If I was picking a first to last the two I'd look at would be Baltimore (but I think Cincy will really suck) and Chicago (call me not sold on that offense and it is a tough division). Chicago is one where they could possibly go 7-9 and finish last place. I think Detroit will be right around that 7-9 / 8-8 mark too.

Good call.  I agree it is not so much as Chicago really tanking it is that the division winner and last place team might only be separated by 2 games.

  8. The first game is a perfect test for the biggest question marks for this team.

    1. Rush defense- will Oliver hold up. Will Edmunds take the next step.

    2. O-Line - can they do what has never been done. Replace 4 linemen and a TE and perform against a very good defensive line

    3. Allen - can he win the game with his arm. Jets have a great safety but not much else in their secondary and linebackers. He should be able to exploit them with throws to Beasley and the running backs all game long.

    4. Pass rush - Darnold is not a good passer in a messy pocket and that dates back to USC. Can the Bills get a consistent pass rush from someone other than Hughes.

  9. Not uncommon in NFL to go from last to first for any number of circumstances.

    Jets

    Bengals

    Jags

    Raiders

    Giants

    Lions

    Cardinals

    Buccaneers

Which team has best chance to go from last to first?

I think the easy pick is Jacksonville with Foles and that defense. But I don't trust Marrone and Foles has failed in full time starter role in the past.

I'm going with Tampa Bay. I love their last few drafts. The Saints may not be able to recover from NFC Championship game and Brees got worse over the course of last season. No I don't trust Winston but Ariens has proven to be an elite offensive mind. Carolina and Atlanta will be good enough to knock off the Saints once or twice but neither will win the division.

As for first to last, look no further than the AFC East.  No other team is as dependent on one player, and Brady is over 40. One bad ankle sprain and they could lose 6 in a row.

Do you watch special teams or get up and go to the refrigerator when they're out there (asking for a friend)...

I watch. It's not 1/3rd of the game. Closer to 1/10th when it comes to meaningful plays. And those meaningful plays are most dependent on the kicker and punter, not the rest of the 11.

-Josh McDaniels will be the next great head coach. In fact, I'd rather have him over McDermott (and i like McDermott)

Much of Tom Brady's success should be attributed to him. He did have a weird falling out with the Broncos but he went to the playoffs and won a game with Tim Tebow.

His game planning is unreal. He knows his offenses weaknesses and covers them significantly.

There are plenty of coaches that got a second chance and turned out to be great. (BB, Pete Carroll, JDR unjustly fired, Kubiak, etc etc)

-Adam Gase is a better head coach than Bills fans want to believe. He was left talentless and injury ridden in Miami.

-The Bills do not need Frank Gore and he shouldn't be on this team.

-Star gets a lot of flack for some reason around here and i think he is a very good football player

What evidence do you have to support your claim about Gase? He had Peyton Manning to run the offense in Denver.  I agree he had little talent in Miami but he had some talent on offense.
