Down is the play, in my opinion. Unless they pull a miracle in FA, the defense is going to take a step back this year - if Miller doesn’t return to some form close to what he was for the Bills before his injury, defense could be pretty bad. I would really need to be sure of the guy I want to trade next year’s 1st because it could be considerably higher than 28 next year.
I'm fine with trading down. That is what I would do. Just saying if a top 3 WR was there I could live with going after him and giving up next years first.
Defense will be fine and better than last year. Poyer and Hyde were not good. Milano will be back. DQ will be there all year. Bernard will have more experience. Miller can't be worse. Rousseau will be in a contract year. Go WR in the first and Edge in 2nd and they will be fine.

Agreed the Buffalo Bills have major problems in there secondary we let guys go for cap reasons only to waste money on backup quarterback like it matters and backup running back. If Bills fans wonder why don’t the Bills win the Super Bowl for all these years. Stuff like this is why the Bills were miss managed by Ralph Wilson and Terry Pegula with the management people they hire are flawed. The Bills have wasted money backups that are a dime a dozen like Cam Lewis who I would have cut last season his play was so bad the Bills give him a raise and especially Mitch Trubisky that were both a waste of money. I can find Mitch Trubisky on the street after the UFL season is over if I need a quarterback if Josh Allen potentially went down. It’s not like it matters if Josh Allen goes down the Bills is basically all over. Mitch Trubisky isn’t saving the Bills season. Mitch Trubisky failed with Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers but the Bills think they are the smartest team in the NFL and way over pay for Mitch Trubisky ridiculous. Oh I know Mitch Trubisky is a fine young man. You can see the Kansas City Chiefs are getting stronger and the Buffalo Bills are getting weaker by wasting what little cap space and money they have on backups. Oh I know Buffalo Super Fan the Bills are going to get that all in the NFL draft for pennies on the dollar keep telling yourself that as a Bills fan. This Bills fan says the Bills aren’t going to solve what they cut all in the draft. The Bills needed to focus on secondary help not backup quarterback and running backs in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go BuffaloWhat major problems in the secondary?
The top 3 CBs and Johnson are all back. White was never going to start again. Dane was never anything special.
Poyer and Hyde were bad lady year.
Rapp is probably a small upgrade.
That leaves one starting salary that can one later or via the draft.
Now if you said edge, I would agree with you. I loathe bringing back Epenesa.
Lastly I generally agree they waste money on special teams. I would have not signed Lewis or this WR. Both are no better than an UDFA. I like the LB as a cheaper upgrade over Matakevich.

Can't see going 28 to 10. But if the right WR is there I would be fine giving up next year's 1 to get around 12-14. We are most likely going to be picking at 27-32 next year. So it's not really a very valuable #1.
The guy would have to be special though. Otherwise I actually advocate moving down in a deep draft for WR.

Cousins is a guy everyone loves to dunk on but he consistently gives you 4000+ passing yards, around 30 passing TD, and around 9 INT on average.
He's pretty good. Not elite but pretty good. Too bad SF is determined to prove Purdy is a real QB, because a Cousins/Shanahan reunion would have made the 49ers a real contender.
Yeah its that whole winning thing that he struggles with...career record 78-70. Allen's is 63-31.

Solid move.
One of McDermott's finest moments last season was letting this kid run out the clock against the Steelers. The game was not over but he let the kid get meaningful snaps in front of the home crowd. Rewarding a guy like this for hard work is one of McDermott's finest qualities.
He should be a very very good RB3 and maybe push to be RB2.

I don't understand this sentiment. They have an extremely overrated QB coming off a career threatening injury. At this point I still have Tampa winning that division.

Get younger. They just developed Benford into a starting caliber CB. They can find another late round pick for CB#4.
Now if the plan is to move Benford to safety and let Elam start at CB then I'd be fine with Levi on a cheap deal.

Floyd and Davis count. Morse, Neal, Poyer, Hines do not. Trubiskey was cut so he doesn't count. Hollins and Morrow's dollars likely don't make the cutoff of around 3 million.
So does Dane Jackson and so will Dodson
This is a guy you sit and wait. Maybe if he hasn't signed a deal by mid-July you give him a call.

Another special teams guy that offers little help for Allen.
I didn't expect a significant WR in FA. That will come in the draft.
I just wish Beane would take control of this team and stop allowing,McDermott to put precious cap space into special teams. Any 7th round pick can do what this guy will on teams for far less.
Just get a day 1 or early day 2 WR in the draft and all will be ok

I like Williams. He has speed and hits like a truck. I love Milano but if he does not return to form from the injury then 2024 might be his last in Buffalo with his contract. Hopefully Williams learns to play under control.
This signing, as others have said, hopefully is better and cheaper than Matakevich. Matakevich was one of the worst wastes of money in the McDermott/Beane era.

Swap the head coaches not the QBs.
To be fair to McDermott, which I rarely am, Reid was a bust in Philadelphia too. He choked worse than McDermott ever did in Philadelphia.
Maybe McDermott figures it out. Maybe he doesn't. No matter what we think Pegula seems committed to him. We will see just how committed if they have another early playoff exit.

No thank you. We need speed and size on the outside. He is exactly what we don't need in the WR group.

5th year option, extend after next year is the most likely outcome. But not a slam dunk.
Agree. He is nothing special so far. Pick up the option and let him play it out just like Edmunds.

He is bad. Allen and company will eat him alive. However my guess is he doesn't make the final 53 roster.

I like Pittsburgh and they fact they are always trying to be a contender and never settle but at some point they have to realise the problem is their offense and need to apply the appropriate finances on that side of the ball.
They had a franchise QB paid at top dollar for over a decade. They invested in OL. Took a RB in first round. They have had multiple productive WRs. They never found a good TE though.
Like moat teams, they just screwed up the QB position after their star retired. They are going for the quick fix with Wilson, much like Buffalo did with Bledsoe.

Wilson with a run game decent WR group and a good defense will be tough to beat.

Glad this is not the Bills doing this.
Four years ago Bills signed Matakevich to a 2 year $7.5M contract. That was just as bad as this 49ers contract.
In his entire Bills career did he ever make one play? I swear the only time I saw him on the field was him falling down at the goal line as the Jets scored a punt return TD for OT win.

That is exactly what I think is going to happen. I think, and again I say THINK, we have done all we are going to do until the draft. Post June 1st he will look at the roster then see about adding on.
Guys this is an almost rebuild year. We went all in and failed and as Beane said "the Bill comes due" and it did this year. This is why all offseason last year some of us said make the cuts then, don't "run it back". No Hyde, or poyer, and make some needed cuts and rely on the draft so that THIS offseason we would have taken the hit and could invest.
Sorry, can u tell me who we have lost that matters? Hyde was retiring no matter what. Poyer was bad. We all knew Davis was gone. I wish Epenesa was gone too.
Can u explain how this is a rebuild when the vast majority of the core players are still here??

I'm not going to post how I really feel becuase this is not a forum for politics and I don't want any negative points.

If $10 Million per year is the high end of the RB market, I think we can afford a cheap power back to compliment James Cook later in free agency like Dobbins, Foreman, or AJ Dillon.
Agree. Go after Dillon

I mean, I would love it if we got Dane back for one more year a la Levi Wallace.
I do think it's notable that after Day 1, the signings were bringing back expired vets, meaning that they probably had an offer from Beane, waited to see what they got and ultimately came back.
Great no one else wanted Epenesa or Lewis so we just had to keep them....

If he is there and there is interest then you trade down.
Losing the 3rd round comp pick makes me want to trade down even more than usual.
If there is not a run on WRs ideal situation would be to trade down into the first few picks of the second round and maybe flip our fourth comp pick into a high 3rd round pick. So move down maybe 5 or 6 spots from round 1 to round 2 then move up 50 or so spots into round 3. About 80-100 draft point value to move down and still be in the top 10 of second round. That's enough value to move from 4th round to 3rd round.

Was going to say, not the best representation of English football. Chelsea are nicknamed 'The Pensioners' and their fans have always been more well off. Definitely not blue colour. Newcastle fans, on the other hand would have been more representative.
Definitely seemed that way

Floyd gets replaced in the second round. He was good but faded and was non existent after Halloween. Settle is terrible. Phillips was a nonfactor. They will find another DT body at some point - draft or scrap heap. Can't be much worse than Settle and Phillips were
