the Daboll/Schoen regime - on the brink, it seems
technobot replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Seriously. When Josh is done and we put him up on the Wall of Fame, we should also do the same for Gettleman for gifting us our franchise QB (when the Giants also needed one). Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good and after the drought, the Bills were due. It really came up aces the whole way that draft went down (Giants taking a RB, Broncos passing on Allen when they were also looking for their next QB, etc...) Passing on Mahomes the year before was yikes (with hindsight) but we still ended up with Allen... -
Say my name Sun shines through the rain A whole life so lonely And then come and ease the pain I don't want to lose this feeling, oh Close your eyes, give me your hand Do you feel my heart beating? Do you understand? Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming? Or is this burning an eternal flame?

Joe B from the Athletic posted an article on Amari Cooper, and his notes from watching some footage: Link to article (paywall) Why? - "opposing defenses didn't respect the Bills' ability to get open" - our guys couldn't beat them early, and Allen has to go into scramble mode - we need a high volume separator/attention-taker What does the film show? - Cooper "still getting open at good rate" - some of the drops are on Cooper but some are simply the result of terrible QB-play (poor ball placement, poor QB reaction, throwing late) Strengths: - excellent route runner, Buscaglia uses "glide" several times - "power and intention in every step" - does not give away many "tells" - can flip the switch between gliding and surprising defenders with quick-footed release and break-off - "excellent understanding of zone depths, spacing from defenders" - "relocates well" and will be a boon when Allen goes scramble drill Weaknesses: - occasional drops - "no longer a deep-field separator", not as much RAC as young Cooper - not a good blocker (Mack Hollins has entered the chat) - potential separation issues will have to be covered by his smooth route running Fit? - sees Coleman as the X for now, with Cooper as the (Canadian pronunciation) Zed - Shakir stays Y, Hollins as backup X/Z/WR4, Samuel as gadget WR5 Much of this has been posted by TBD contributors already, and Joe's notes on why the cap and compensation make sense is obvious to most of us. As for the future, he posits this year as a "try before you buy" with perhaps a short term (ideally 1 yr) extension to follow if all goes well and both sides are interested. I (technobot) will not lie and say I watched a ton of game film on Cooper, but just a quick perusal of Pro Football Reference showed that Cooper was averaging 3-5 drops a year on ~130 targets/year. 2018 (the year he was traded to DAL), 2022, and this year in particular seem a bit like outliers. Also, from my hazy memory of 2018, he was clearly unhappy and was on his way out. Buscaglia mentioned that Cooper's body language sometimes indicated frustration, which would be natural. Joe did also note that Cooper wasn't typically demonstrative, but sometimes you just can't hide it. Cooper was obviously unhappy this year, especially in a "I have to produce to get paid big next year" kind of year. The (legal cannabis) pipe-smoking dream I have is that Cooper, much like our beloved #17, is a ginormous BOOM player, with some BUST. Point being, Cooper has had 4 200+ yard games in his career. Paired with Allen, we might finally get the technobot-prophesied 500+ yard, 7 TD, wet-dream, GOAT performance of Biblical significance.

this has the feel of professional wrestling, when the face wins as a result of a disqualification -

We got a place with a fence and a little grass I put this film on the windows, and it looks like chapel glass But when she turns, it's like the shadow of the cross don't cast No blessin' over our lonely life It's like waiting for a train to pass, I don't know when it'll pass But I remember when she used to set the room on fire With her eyes, swear to God It's like a flood of grief and sorrow from a haunted life When she cries like a train, it's a lot

Agree with the sentiment that last two weeks, the opposing defense is not respecting Allen's receiving options and just playing them tight, disguising their blitzes, and using a spy (or "fence") to contain Allen. He has seemed hesitant running the last two weeks, maybe it's the injury, and some brutal shots he's taken. I'm worried he reverts to "Sugar High" Josh out of frustration, feeling he has to do everything. The receiving has been ugly the last two weeks and yes, we're short handed. On to the Jets and the Meadowlands...

How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man? How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly Before they're forever banned? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind

I want to take a streetcar downtown Read Henry Miller and wander around And drink some Guinness from a tin 'Cause my U.I. cheque has just come in Ah, where you been... because Everything is coming up rosy and grey Ah, the wind is cold but the smell of snow warms me today And your smile is fine and it's just like mine and it won't go away, 'cause everything is rosy and grey

Josh Allen vs Patrick Mahomes: The changing of the guard?
technobot replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
He (obviously) seems dialed in. Those reports in training camp and preseason were true, that he has an elevated focus and it's really showing so far. Gunner mentioned in the gameday thread that Allen's not trying to be Superman all the time, more like Brady (TB12) when the opportunity presents itself. Well said. He is (at this moment) more than happy to take all the easy sh*t underneath and let his weapons YAC the other guys to death, if that's what the opposing defense is exposing. My (uneducated) guess is that Diggs was addition through subtraction. Obviously we lost a quality receiver but the chemistry with what is left is night and day. You have a bunch of guys that (for now) just want to do their jobs and execute and have bought into "everyone eats", but moreso when the team is winning! He's in the rearview mirror behind us but my guess is 2020 was the one year we got "best behaviour" Diggs. What others have correctly mentioned about 2020 being Allen's best statistical year, matched with his best receiving corps... this iteration might not have the direct "star" power but they certainly have weapons, versatility, and an eagerness to do the grubby things, like block. It's easy when things are going your way, but for now, no one is sulking about not getting targeted 15 times in the first half.
