You need clarification on which game the Bills played against Houston last year? I don't know how to respond to that other than I'm sorry for everything you have been through.
lol. who is this guy?

I would expect an initial drop off, but they will get it together, and eventually improve on where they are now. It will be a harder road for Daboll without Allen and company than vice versa.

I miss Jordan Phillips, and from the looks of it, he misses the Bills....
yup. they made the right play moving on from him for that kind of money, and he made the right move to take the $$. But he was great to have around last year.

watson is a freaking wizard. that guy scares me as much as anybody. hope they mess up this coach hiring!

I'm still not a fan. Still too many touchbacks and too much inconsistency. He's been good the last month or so after the Arizona shank.
Interesting stat on him, his net average when kicking from between his own 1 and 20 is only 36.2 yards and he's averaging over 15 yards per return. His gross is only an average of 49 in those situations so it's not that he's outkicking the coverage, it's that it's coming out low. The times you need him to get it out long and high is when it's not happening.
He's also had to punt three times from the +side of the 50 and put two of them into the end zone. Pooch or short directional OOB inside the 20 and it doesn't happen.
When in his comfortable range between our own 20 and midfield, where he can kick it without stress, and without distance control his punting has been good, net average 47, gross 52.1 and opponents are only averaging 5.5 ypr so it's coming out nice and high in those situations.
Maybe it will develop in time, he's a young guy.
solid post. he's in my good graces now, but this is what had me so infuriated the first half of the season. im not sure if he's cleaned any of that up, if he's had less opportunities in those situations, or if we've just been playing so well that his mistakes aren't noticed. but i haven't noticed much the last month +. I hope it's because he's actually kicking better, but I haven't looked at the analytics.

loved to see that coffin corner kick today. that has not been his specialty. he is progressing. I'll eat crow on him and bass. I was calling for both of their heads around the midseason mark.

Allen has a better ceiling. His numbers are better, but we all know why. Jim Kelly was a top 3 qb in the NFL for at least a couple seasons. Allen needs to do it a couple more times.
I believe he will pass Kelly. But he hasn't yet.
was Jim Kelly the best qb in the NFL in 1991?

That’s a pretty rough take but I’d have to agree with some of your points.
He definitely did succeed in large part because of his physical attributes and his competitiveness. Now that he has been hampered with injuries and Father Time his bad mechanics are no longer hidden by those great attributes he had.
He could serve as a backup QB but the question is will he want to retire as one? His outsized personality makes it tough for me to believe he would accept being one but if he could mentally accept that and decide to contribute as one then he could be an asset, as a backup.
yup. doesn't seem to have the humility as mike vick eventually did. that is what he needs to try to be at this point.

People have discounted the idea that past qb improvement has any baring on qb improvement today, because it was supposedly a much different game then. As if the game being harder on qb's would make it more likely for improvement, and today's game that's easier on qb's would make it hinarder for qb's to improve.
There are QBs who come from very pro style college offenses, led by very high level play callers and coaches. So sure, those guys have a leg up. For whatever reason, people want to ignore the circumstances Josh Allen came from.

It's unprecedented if you ignore all the precedents. It's funny, Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aiken, two pundits that evoked the "Josh is inaccurate" and "you can't improve accuracy" BS this season, had higher overall jumps in completion percentage and TD to INT ratio than Josh has had.
People would be absolutely stunned to look at the stats of those two. John Elway a bit as well.

Ben is old and banged up. His body AND arm need the rest, and Tomlin knows the odds are in favor of the bills winning anyway. That factors in huge.
We should play guys who feel good, and rest anybody who is banged up.
keep the ball rolling.

Marvin Lewis. I think he's a guy who can turn a team around. But he can't finish the job.

i have been as down on bass and Bojo as much as anybody. I have been really impressed with both the past few weeks. long field goals, consistent. Huge punts. punts inside the 10, etc.

I'd love it because we're the better team. I'd hate it because of the extra stress it would bring to the game. The Pats, and now Brady and the Bucs, doing well stresses me out almost as much as the bills playing poorly.
the PTSD is real.

good stuff. i have to say i am really pleased with myself on how i stayed optimistic about defense when we were only 5 or 6 games into the season. optimism in the face of mediocrity is not my typical MO.
Just knowing we had so many pieces from defenses that were highly ranked before and knowing we've had a coach that knows how to put it all together. No preseason hurt. Losing a couple guys hurt. But the best will always figure it out. I have seen so many patriots teams that didn't look good on defense until the end of the year and playoffs.
McD (props to frazier as well) is a legit defensive mind. Trust the process.

He did that after winning 5 Super Bowls and proving himself over and over again on the biggest stage. He also would get after guys at practice and make sure they kept repeating something until they got it exactly right no matter how many reps it took.
But to a man players say Brady is an amazing leader. Getting in someone's face sometimes is part of it.
There are different types of leaders. Brady can get away with getting in a guy's face and getting after them about putting in work because he is the hardest working guy on the team. If Kyler is the hardest working guy on the team, he will be okay.

i love collinsworth. very polarizing guy. i have this conversation with friends any time he is on. I also like Michaels, but Tirico has a very good rep himself. i have not seen him call many games, personally.

I agree with this...it was kind of unsustainable some of the things he did at the end of last year...more like "however I have to get it done" type of stuff...almost like Allen in his rookie year.
I agree...but that doesn't mean he will be a good HC...huge skill set difference between what you need to be a good OC/DC and a head coach...much of it has nothing to do with football.
im not sold on him as a head coach. im not even certain he's a great o coordinator. but i wouldn't give him up. the devil you know, all.

Daboll may never leave; remember - he grew up in Buffalo and is a life long Bills fan. He went to St. Francis. This is his dream job. I'm not sure if he has kids - but I would bet/hope that if he does, he won't want to go anywhere else....
this is probably wishful thinking. head coaching opps might be once in a lifetime. you are only one terrible season away from no longer being considered a shining candidate. Maybe he doesn't leave for a sh!t job like the Jets or Detroit, but he will leave if given the chance at a promising opportunity.

What about the play where Brady completed a 46 yard bomb and Romo was gushing about the pass. And while he was still drooling over that pass, the very next play Brady throws an under thrown INT. Romo didn't know what to say.
i believe he decided to stammer about how it was because the bucs were down so much, so was forgivable to be over aggressive in a bad spot.
i think i said aftet that play that Brady had just pulled a Josh Allen. good to see that brilliant vets make the same really dumb mistakes as our guy.

what? Daboll has been much improved this season.
if anything our FO needs to do a better job building this team. Half of Our defense is aging quick and the other half are young guys who we have no idea how they will pan out.
the lack of adjustments when the opposition stifles our passing game worries me. Maybe im being too picky. it just seems there are too many long stretches where we can't do anything at all.

He does a good job running the overall program. as long as he brings in talented to guys to delegate to, I feel good. I'm not really sold on Daboll though. I think we could go to the next level with the RIGHT change. It shouldn't happen until he leaves for greener pastures though.
What Was Your Initial Reaction To Sean McDermott as Bills HC?

no initial reaction. just wait and see. same way i felt about drafting allen and trading for Diggs.
i'll admit to being dumb enough to get excited for the rex hire back in the day. my thoughts on such matters should not be respected!
