Spotsy is where a lot of the Battle for Fredericksburg occurred along with Stafford. Which is the North side of Fredericksburg. Stafford is where george Washington was born and raised, and supposedly chopped down the cherry tree.
A little education, now that you bring it up. The battle of Fredericksburg, was basically a seige on the town, since it is primarily surrounded by water. It was a very hard fought battle that did in fact change hands a couple of time. But in that battle alone, in less than an 18 month period, over 100,000 troops died. Again, just thought a little perspective to people, history, and war.
