Great. I bet there is a queue of teams lining up to trade him if he has all the question marks you just set out.

I think Baker will be the Browns Quarterback in 2022.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I'm sure there are a few teams that would take Baker off the Browns' hands. NYG, Houston, Denver just to name a few. Is Baker better than Darnold or Newton ?

Don't judge Baker on this year would be my advice. He has been playing through a pretty significant shoulder injury. He is now going to have it surgically repaired. Yes, this year's version of Baker is easily replaceable. Last year's version much less so. The true Baker may yet be somewhere in the middle. That is why the Browns should not rush a decision. Get him properly healthy next year, let him play on the option and then if they want to retain him franchise tag him.

Also Carr and Ryan are not hitting the market this year. I doubt Cousins does either unless the Vikings do a full tear down (which they shouldn't). Yea they could get Garoppolo, but I personally believe a fully healthy Baker is probably slightly better. Wilson, Rodgers and Watson absolutely are upgrades.... are any of them going to choose Cleveland over the other options even if they do become available given their own distinct circumstances?

The question is can Baker return to the 2020 Baker after the surgery ? Confidence is a huge part of QB success and you have to figure he is not only beaten up physically but mentally as well. Lots of batted down passes and Mayfield has thrown more INTs that any QB in the league since 2018. I would agree with Yolo that one of them is out the door and I doubt it's Stefanski after just 2 seasons.

Listening to the pressers from mayfield and stefanski yesterday, I think those two are headed for a divorce.

Makes you wonder if there's a lot more under the covers with Mayfield / Stefanski. Did Stefanski say why he left Hudson on his own to deal

with T.J. Watt ? Mayfield could be gone but it would take Haslam admitting he was wrong about his #1 pick.

Not sure the relationship is repairable ...

Cleveland is in the same position the Vikings were 3 years ago. Too good to be terrible. Not good enough to be a true contender. With a QB who will be hard to replace.

For that reason, I think you pay Baker.

Not so sure Mayfield would be hard to replace with Wilson, Garoppolo, Carr, Cousins, Ryan and maybe Deshaun Watson & Rodgers available. Trubisky would have done a better job than Mayfield this year.

The challenge with QB ratings is that none of the systems employed does a good job of holistically capturing a QB's true level of play.

Take last nights Browns/Steelers game.  Baker Mayfield finished with a QB rating of 53 which was much better then Allen's QB rating of 17. Yet at NO time during yesterday;s game did Mayfield perform better then Allen did at QB against Atlanta.  It wasn't even close.

And before people say "but Baker was sacked 9 times what could he do" I would counter that Allen playing behind the exact same line as Mayfield last night would have had half as many sacks.  Right there, the ability of Allen to avoid being sacked is exponentially better then Mayfield's but does not show up in the stats.

Or look at Dak Prescott.  He had a decent QB rating on Sunday in the Cowboys loss to Arizona.  Yet watching the game he was a worse QB then Allen on that day as he could only muster 7 points through three and a half quarters and had a key fumble that gave the Cards a two score lead late.

How many drops / throwaways contributed to the 17 rating ? Obviously the tipped ball interceptions (and the one other ) drove it down but the 17 rating doesn't include 81 yards rushing and 2 TDS.

It does make sense, if you are looking long term I'm not taking Brady or Rogers over Allen right now because they both may be playing in their last seasons. If you are looking at pure potential I still think there are several guys that truly may end up HOF players compared to Allen.

But if you want to lump everyone together than yes I'm not taking Allen over at least 5-7 other NFL QB's right now and why would anyone else based on comparitive body of work and overall ceiling?

Who determines the ceiling ? You ?

Signing Allen to the deal this summer was a very smart move by Beane.  Yes you can say his numbers are down a bit from last year, but they are in the ballpark.  Also, the offensive line is markedly worse than last season and Josh has been able to overcome it more time that not.

I think both teams end up giving Lamar and Baker their 5th year and wait to make a decision.  Cleveland and Baltimore had a pretty bad season with injuries/COVID/OBJ so I think they may wait one more year

Reported on Twitter earlier today that Baker will be having the labrum repair surgery soon, but I'm not sure that will fix his current mindset and propensity to batted balls and turnovers. Might be best for him to get out from under the microscope in Cleveland.

I think his injury has impacted him but there were throws to be made last night where he just wasn’t seeing the field. He looked lost. I think they will bring in competition for him this season in some form or fashion. Potentially draft a guy like Sam Howell. Or sign Trubisky (who is from Cleveland). Mayfield seems to thrive when his back is against the wall. That said he may prefer a fresh start. He was not drafted by this regime and I don’t think they are all that invested in his success.  I could see him traded somewhere like Houston. Similar to the Darnold trade last year. The browns also really need a #1 WR any better TEs to get the passing game out of the gutter.

This is most likely the plan ... they can also move up and take Pickett / Corral and sign Trubisky. If Wilson leaves Seattle, might be a good restart for Baker.

On one hand Allen needs to clean up the interceptions, on the other hand his most incredible throws come on the same plays that the interceptions do. I guess it comes down to understanding the game you're in. When winning against a vastly inferior opponent we don't need a miracle TD pass back across your body to Diggs, so just throw that one away. It's a tougher balance than it seems though.

Hard to clean up interceptions on tipped balls - my complaints are twofold - not taking a little off throws at time and still trying to make the hero pass when throwing it away is the better option.

Have you seen Rosen play?  The last time I saw him he came in in garbage time threw a pick & got pulled for Atlanta's 3rd stringer-with nothing on the line, the game was essentially over!  If he's still their #2, I could see Rosen playing in the 4th quarter if the bills are blowing out Atlanta.  It could end up the same: Rosen in, throws a pick, Rosen benched.

This week I was looking at a 2018 draft day video and I still can't believe how bad Rosen turned out.  The guys on the NFL network broadcast loved Rosen, especially Troy Aikman, who definitely preferred the wrong Josh.  When Rosen made Atlanta, I was rooting for him to turn things around, but after watching him in the game he got pulled, I've completely written the guy off.  It must really suck to be so good in college to be a top 10 pick at the most coveted position & not be able to play in the NFL. Sort of like the characters in the song Glory Days.

Along with many on this board who preferred the "wrong" Josh ... my only thought would be Smith would give him more than just a series or two to see if he is worth another look next year. This mock has the Falcons taking Pickett and Rosen would be history.

  11. Week 17 - any possibility we could see the good Josh battle the bad Josh in Week 17 ? If you tell me there's a 0% chance, I won't be offended.

But if Atlanta were to lose this week, they would be pretty much eliminated from the playoffs. Would Arthur Smith give Rosen some playing time ?

The Colts certainly have a prayer of a chance of making to Super Bowl.

Frank Reich can be first head coach who is also team chaplain.

Wentz certainly looks better than he did with Eagles.

Some coaching staffs fit some players more than others.

I know it was best for Bills and Bills fans (except those pulling for nose drive for picks) that Cardinals win but I like Frank Reich a lot and have a hard time cheering against his team.  Both teams were making mistakes but Colts offense line played very well considering they lost 4 of 5 starters.

Agreed - not sure they could get by a healthy KC team but wouldn't be surprised to see them in the AFC Championship game.

I still like it as a no call - watch the way at 5 yards People-Jones really leans into Douglas and then pushes off right at the break.  He completely extends his left arm into Douglas right shoulder to try and gain separation.

Does Douglas hold - yep, but I think you have just as much OPI going on with how the route was run.

That to me is not blatant PI - that is allowing two guys to play each other.  The offensive guy drove into him to maintain contact and pushed off.  The defender grabbed the jersey, but didn’t pull him out of his break.

The issue is what do you want as an outcome - Packers fans would be ticked if they called the flag to negate a game winning Int on a play the WR pushed off, the Browns are ticked it wasn’t called.  I think that makes sense as a no call then.

Never should've even come to this play - GB defender dropped a sure interception a bit earlier which would've been Mayfield's 4th at the time.

Your opinion on the protocol is irrelevant. The rule is the rule. As the rule stands any player that chose not to get vaccinated made it more likely that they would miss valuable time with their team. Davis and Beasley missed a couple days of training camp and now they are missing games. This was more likely to happen because of their decision. So they quite literally put themselves before the team. 94.6% of NFL players are vaccinated. We don't need to pretend the few holdouts are some shining example of being principled.

As they should ... it's their bodies and I respect their right to personal choice.

There is no universal vaccination.  We’d be a lot better off if there were.   Sounds like you’re looking for a perfect answer so you disregard the best answers we have right now.

Since you can get and transmit Covid if you've already been vaxxed, there are no best answers.
