Isn't there a point that Rudolph played against a higher level of competition than Peterman?

What are Rudolph's measurements?  Looking and not finding.  And we'll see - while Rudolph clearly doesn't have the arm that Darnold or Allen have, or the technique to maximize his arm that Rosen has - I think it's shortchanging him to compare him to Peterman.

I tend to disagree. Most of the OK State wins this year were blowouts. Their toughest matchup was Oklahoma, who beat them 62-52. They also had a really tough loss to TCU. Peterman's senior year featured marquee wins against Clemson and Penn State, plus wins over Villanova, Georgia Tech, Virginia, and a tough loss to Virginia Tech.

If you really look closely at the level of competition, it's pretty comparable.

In terms of potential, I think Rudolph is Bryce Petty, a guy with some size and physical tools who needs a ton of work. Petty was a fourth rounder. Peterman was a fifth. I guess my argument is that Rudolph is much closer to Peterman, than he is to any of the top guys in this draft. He is a third, fourth round pick in my opinion.  I think he is a future solid backup to develop. Also in terms of measurables these were his measurables at the Combine:

    6041 229 9 1/8 32 1/2 78 3/4

His hands are tiny for a guy his size.

I think Jackson sneaks into the first round the first round.

Doesn't seem like a smokescreen at all.

It could be one of those cases in which everyone already knows that the Bills love him and there is no reason to put up a smokescreen. I think a lot of front offices have really good ideas about what other front offices are thinking. He may be putting teams on notice that they want to trade up. Sure some people may be able to beat us to the Giants pick, but no one else can offer two first round picks this year and a franchise left tackle. There may be no use in beating around the bush at this point.

I think they might have some interest in Rudolph too if they do end up unable to move up.  They have certainly watched him plenty.

I think it's possible. I feel like his small hands and lack of arm strength will turn them off, but I could be completely wrong. How he does on the board with offensive concepts is going to be critical for him. I don't think he is much better than Nate Peterman honestly. Similar arm strength, Rudolph has better size, Nate has bigger hands, Nate had experience in a pro style offense coming in. I don't think Rudolph move s the needle the way the top five guys would, and would therefore be a wasted pick. In the fourth round its fine.

I count the top five as Rosen, Darnold, Allen, Mayfield and Jackson. I think there is a huge drop off after them. And I don't think the Bills will be in on Mayfield or Jackson. All just my opinions.

That depends on how far down they think they can trade and still get a good one - given that there's a flood of teams needing a QB after them (the whole reason the Bills need to trade up to 5 or similar to get their guy in all these mocks) they can't move down very far and still get a top 4 QB guy.

I hear you. My argument is if I'm Cleveland and I don't love the quarterbacks, then don't take one. Trade down as far as you want in that case.

I agree with both of you.

From the simple standpoint of leadership and filling a positional need, having Kyle as a bird in the hand is huge.  They should still be signing a starting DT like DaQuan Jones or Justin Ellis as a FA, and drafting someone in round 3-4 that can play 30-40 snaps/game.  That way Kyle can play more in obvious passing situations and take less of a beating.

I would be signing him to a 2-year, $10M deal with $7M signing bonus; vet min base in 2018.

I really like DaQuan Jones. PSU guy. I hope he is a target.

The problem with this whole concept is that Cleveland really does (and SHOULD) want BOTH of their early picks.

If Sequon Barkley runs well at the combine at 230+ pounds, Cleveland would be nuts not to take him FIRST and then take whatever QB they can get at #4.

Darnold is not special.  ALL the rookie QBs have major question marks.  Indy isn't taking a QB - they're taking DE Chubb.  They very well could take Barkley if he's still there though.  They just let Gore go.

Cleveland at worst will get their 2nd choice at QB, and again, they all have significant flaws - any one of the first 4-6 could be the right answer.  They can take Barkley and still have one of Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield/Allen.  No brainer.

I agree with you on taking Barkley. But why not trade down from 4 if you don't love the quarterbacks? Sign a vet, draft Barkley, then trade down for more picks.

Beane - we talk a lot of different things in our meetings with the players at the NFL Combine. We want to talk to the player, and also talk to other people from their school to see if the stories match up. #Bills

Beane - we're looking at not only the physical abilities, but also the intangibles of some players to see if a player fits in for the #Bills.

Beane - you look at how some of the best quarterbacks in the league lead their teams, not everyone is the same. The fit for us may not be the fit for other teams. #Bills

Brandon Beane - You talk to players that know these guys during the season.  Has had talks with current Bills OL Conor McDermott... "tell me about Josh (Rosen)".

Thanks for sharing. These points are huge in relation to Rosen. Having a guy on our team who played left tackle for Rosen for two years is a big deal. You have someone who can clarify questions about Rosen in your own house. This is huge. From everything I can gather, Conor McDermott loves Rosen.

I will be interested to see if the Bills interview Kolton Miller, who played with Rosen for 3 years, and Scott Quessenberry, who played center for Rosen for two years. These are the guys who can show that "stories match up."

I wonder who the Giants will draft at 21 and 22

With Cordy Glenn on board I'm thinking Billy Price and the best linebacker on the board. They are shifting to a 3-4 defense, so they will need more picks to fill it out. B-)

If they sign Andrew Norwell, they may find themselves in the Super Bowl next year. Glenn, Norwell, Price is a great way to re-build an offensive line. That is why I think they trade down.

Let’s have some speculation fun and play with what some of the other teams are being quoted on at today’s press interviews from Combine.

Let’s start with the Browns and how they end their QB search by drafting one at #1.  But what happens to the 4th Pick?

Hue Jackson quoted today “Having six of the first 65 picks is going to be a huge opportunity for us moving forward.”

okay Hue.  If Buffalo gives you 21 and 22 and a second rounder you could have not 6 of the first 65 picks, but EIGHT of the first 65 picks! Lol.  8 is better than 6. ?

what type of Quarterback Room does he want? A Young Player (the first overall pick) and according to Hue, “You want a guy who’s been a veteran player, that’s played in the National Football League, that’s had a chance to win,”

so if Cleveland can’t get any of the Viking 3 or McCarron.   Buffalo could give you a starting NFL Qb at 10 million dollar salary with Buffalo swallowing that players $6 Million bonus!

so Buffalo could boost Cleveland’s number of picks in the top 65 and provide a CHEAP Starting caliber QB.

If You are Cleveland does Drafting Darnold and trading the 4th pick to then have in total

    Sam Darnold and Picks 21, 22, 33, 35, 53, 64, 65 and Tyrod Taylor.

    Look good as opposed to

    Sam Darnold and picks 4, 33, 35, 64, 65

I think a Cleveland trade down makes sense if they go with a veteran quarterback. I still think they will sign McCarron, draft Barkley with 1, trade down from 4, develop Kizer. It's the fastest way to competing. You have McCarron, a really good offensive line, Corey Coleman, Josh Gordon etc. They could go from 0-16 to 8-8 on the edge of the playoffs.

Having 2 of the top 4 picks becomes a really expensive situation in a couple of years with fifth year options and such. While it sounds like a cool idea on paper, when these guys pan out, the Browns are going to have to pay all of them. It's the problem the Rams are having now, they have a number of high picks whose pay days are coming up (Watkins, Joyner, Goff, Gurley, Donald) and they are going to wind up having to cut a really good player like Mark Barron or Robert Quinn.

With all of that said, I am only trading up for Rosen and I think we need to trade up with the Giants to get him.

And so it goes... we console ourselves that what we want to happen actually will happen as we completely dismiss the words that come out of their mouths.

Im not saying that's what they are thinking, my point is that whether they want to keep him or not....what are they supposed to say at the moment? Trying to look into what they are saying here seems futile. Although if they were going to keep him, why wouldn't they just say that now?

There’s a rumor out there of the Dolphins trading up to get Rosen. Now, I know that everything being reported about the draft right now is pure nonsense and smokescreens. But this did get me thinking. What types of things happening in the draft would make this board blow up?

1 - we trade up to the top 10 and don’t take a QB. And two of the top 4 are still there.

2 - If one of the non-qb needy teams trade up and take a QB. I think everyone would go into panic mode.

3 - if Mayfield, Rosen, or Darnold fall past 10. Everyone will lose their **** about us trading up immediately.

I will say this. I do trust that GM’s typically know what they are doing and the McDermott has a long term plan. If any of these happen and we don’t take a QB, then I trust we had good reason.

I'm going with #1. If we traded all the way up to the top 10 for non quarterback, people, including me, would lose their minds...we've been down this road before and it is a dark place.

I like him better than Ivory, though health is a concern I suppose.

He is definitely the better player but has more wear and tear being more of a primary back for years.  Stewart has about 500 more carries than Ivory in like 35 more games. Ivory is a year younger. Perhaps this drives the price down on Ivory. Ivory is the type of guy who needs to sign before free agency if he wants to get a reasonable offer.

The benefits of a 503c are worth a little sweat and elbow grease.

No, I'm not saying they shouldn't but there is a large portion of those that do so for selfish reasons.

You set yourself up as a non profit. You set yourself and family up in positions in it. Tax breaks, etc and they can pinch local businesses to lick them money, too.  Look at Brady's charity and businesses. That's how ya do it.  Gronk, Dalton, etc

Ever wonder why these halfwit barely literate ball players set up a charity as soon as they can?  It's a tax evasion plan.

Ok I gotcha. i just don't think Rosen is that kind of guy. he seems to genuinely want to help people because he is in a position to do so.
