Bass would be 84% (about league average) if Jalen Carter doesn't make a great play on the blocked field goal which shows you why you need a larger sample size when evaluating kickers.

Sam Martin I'm way more concerned about going down the stretch.

I was at that game. Jalen Carter didn’t make a great play. It was a bad kick, very very low. I don’t think,it would have been good even if not blocked.

Honestly, the only player I think the bills are really missing is Milano. Douglass has played really well in place of white. Obviously we all want Miller to play like his former self, but Floyd has kind been filling that roll. Either way, we're playing a struggling kc offense and have almost the entire defense and offense healthy

    Gotcha.
you think missing 3-4 of your top defenders is no big deal; I think it is a challenge.

Not an insurmountable challenge, but not trivial either.

Pretty healthy roster in total. No excuses. Gotta win these games. My hope is that kinkaid is still a big part of the offense. Don't take away his reps just cause Knox is back

Well, except that our 3 best defensive players have been out since October, and a 4 th is recovering from an ACL, and might not play the rest of the year due to domestic issues.

But other than that, yup, pretty healthy.

I agree with the spirit of this take.

There hasn't been nearly enough investment into the offense in the Josh Allen era.

Gabe Davis at 128th overall is the highest WR the Bills have selected, and the FA WRs here have been middle to low end free agents. Beasley was 30 when he got here and so was Brown.

Offensive Line has mostly been a patch job with middle round picks and low-tier FAs.

The most investment has been at RB and TE.

Problem is with Floyd, Epenesa, Ford, Phillips, DaQuan, Settle, Lawson all headed towards UFA, there will have to be investment there. Now, I hope that Gabe Davis' impending FA forces the Bills hand at WR and they realize they should take one in the top half of Round 1.

Just my opinion, but I don’t like the idea of a WR in the top half of round 1.
It will take a lot of draft capital to move from 32 up to 15.

I personally think the non PI call was a makeup call for the BS 15 yards they gave the chiefs the play before

Pretty sure that was mentioned in the in game thread.

A little bit off topic, but did anyone notice Kelsey going downfield on the Hail Mary?

He was jogging like some old dude at a Y basketball pickup game.

    Is he hurt?

Or some mind game to draw penalties?

I feel like after last night's game, the Bills will be on the other side of the refs calls this week

    Unfortunately, I agree with that.

The DPI on the play to the guy with the hyphenated name was a bad miss.

But so was the bogus roughness call at the 1st down marker.

However, the non call on the Hail Mary was routine. I have no clue why the broadcast made such a big deal of that play. Identical jostling takes place every week of the year on Hail Marys and it’s never called.

Unfotunately, I think the broadcast booth did that so folks would think “KC is owed a makeup call” when the inevitable bs call(s) go KC way this wknd.

For me, the fix is they should be reviewed every week by an independent source and be held accountable for being bad at their job.

    This is exactly true.

The way to correct this officiating is obvious.  For reasons that arent clear to me, the NFL refuses to fix this.

    1)  Make NFL officials full time employees.  Would anyone here want a heart surgeon who operated only on weekends, and was an insurance salesman on weekdays?  This is just common sense. Practice may not make perfect, but it certainly makes better.

    2)  Money talks.  Pay them more.  Attract the best candidates.  Start them at $250K/yr, escalating quickly to $500K.  Lets see--8 officials per crew, 16 total crews, 128 officials.  Times $400K per official.  Or $50 million/year total.  Divided by 32 teams  = $1.6 million per team.  Less than 0.7 % of the salary cap.  Less than a backup WR.  Would anyone here object to cutting Trent Sherfield if it meant you had high quality officials?

    3)  Make the officials accountable.  Score them on the quality of their officiating each week.  The bottom 10% at the end of the year are let go.  At $250K/year, you'd have lots of high quality college officials knocking on your door.

    According to Texas law:

    Third-Degree Felony Assault

If you cut off the normal breathing patterns of a member of your family as defined by law (i.e. if you strangle your girlfriend/boyfriend) to the point they cannot breathe, then you could be facing a Third-Degree Felony assault charge. Additionally, if you assault a member of your family, including your spouse or significant other, and if you have had an assault family violence conviction in the past, you could face a third-degree felony assault charge. The penalty range for a third-degree assault conviction is no less than 2 years in prison and up to 10 years in prison; also, a possible fine not to exceed $10,000.

    ...

So, unless he had a domestic violence conviction in the past, the only way Von could be charged with this crime is if he strangled his pregnant girlfriend...!

Actually, Texas law states assault on a pregnant person, not girlfriend.  Gotta be correct with your pronouns these days....

I'm joking , but if what is alleged in the 911 call is true, he's as bad as Tyreek, and should be put away.

    Bado -

I'll tell you where I disagree, but let me start by saying you're exactly right about "next level" prep.  That is what's missing.   It's completely clear when you look at the string of late-game failures, particularly in big games and playoff games.   Belichick understands "next level" prep.

Where I disagree is that you then turn to WR and suggest they have the wrong players.   I don't think that's true, or to put it a different way, I think the guys they have will do just fine if they have "next level" prep.   Belichick won for years with a great QB and a lot of average players; he did it by having everyone, from the QB on down, buy into "next level" prep.

I agree about Allen, and I've said it before.  He needs to be the leader in "next level" prep.  The team will follow him.

And I don't agree that McDermott shouldn't be the coordinator - I think he has the same problem, whether he's the coordinator or not:  he needs "next level" prep also.  It's not that he isn't talented enough; it's that he hasn't thought about and mastered the details that he needs to.

My complaint about McDermott is that by emphasizing versatility - let's be able to play every style - he sacrifices excellence in any particular style.   And I think there's a parallel when it comes to preparation:   I think he's great in the breadth of preparation ("we're going to have some preparation in everything"), but by going after breadth he sacrifices depth.   Davis can block and catches a lot of balls and all - nice breadth, but when the chips are down, has he really mastered the details that will the game?

Agree with the lack of next level prep and Allen as leader.

Allen is one of, if not the most talented QB of this century.

But the team has to want to be champions, and put in the off-season work. I don’t think they’re doing so. I get that organized team activities are optional, but these guys are making millions of $ per year. It wouldn’t be so hard to put in a bit more work.

it’s been said that you need to put in 10000 hours to be expert at an activity, whether it’s playing the cello, shooting free throws, or learning the intricacies of option routes.

I don’t see as many miscommunications with other teams. I don’t think Bills are putting in the time.
