Wasn't just sanders open often. Allen seemed to throw to the only guy that was covered on many downs. On one side of the field a few times singletary and knox were constantly open but the ball would go to diggs or Beasley

One time diggs was being guarded one on one by a linebacker and he was never even looked at

That's what I'm saying. He locked onto the shorter routes constantly. I was actually very surprised that Sanders who's 34 was actually getting open like he was. But it was odd that Allen did throw to double and triple coverage more often than the open man. The 4th and 9 play, he threw about a 25 yard pass down the field to Gabe Davis in triple coverage. My friend was like "he's been throwing short yardage this whole game and now he wants to go down field in triple coverage instead of just getting the first down?" It was very weird what he was doing today

Singletary averaged 7.7 yards per carry.  Running, or screens, also take some heat off the pass rush, giving Allen more time.  Our OL is also better at run blocking, and not having them pass block all game is helpful.

he did seem to be uncharacteristically staring down certain routes.  I wasn't aware we had that many guys open.  That's maddening, and something you'd think Daboll would point out in-game?

Well, you would think Sanders would have told him in the huddle "yo, look for me" or something. One play when Allen dropped back he had time, looked down field and my friend said "he's got him again" referring to Sanders right down the middle of the field but Allen only looked left for about 2 seconds, rolled to his right and then got sacked. Sanders was visibly frustrated once the play was over. And that was the about the 3rd time he was wide open

So, lately I’ve come to the conclusion that our WRs just aren’t elite enough. Outside of Diggs, I just don’t think w have that one go to receiver that can just take over a game. I love Beasley, Davis, and Sanders, but they just don’t have that game take over when you need it vibe. How many times have we seen rookie WRs come into the league now and make huge differences. Look at JaMarr Chase today, Davonta Smith, and Jefferson last year. How is it they come in and put up 100 yard games, but we can’t get that regularly out of Beasley and so on? We all know Allen is great, but something seems off. Burrows and Cousins seems to be doing more with less compared to Allen.

Is it Daboll or the WRs we have? Cause it doesn’t feel like Allen is to blame.

Our WRs are fine. And I'm not saying Allen was fully to blame for the loss, but he missed wide open WRs down field not just by being off target but not even looking at them numerous times. I was at the game and I can tell you about 4 different times, when he had time to throw that Emmanuel Sanders was wide open down the field and he immediately checked it down to Beasley or threw a quick slant to Diggs. He had one play where he only threw about a 4 or 5 yard pass and Singletary was on an island by himself about 40 yards downfield and didn't even look at him at all. Allen was not the full problem today but he was part of it by not looking off the short routes underneath

With 50+ years of AFL and NFL history and probably 1,500 or so players that have represented the Bills in a game, who would be your all-time 53 man roster? You can find my attempt at building what I consider to be the best overall roster.

How many quarterbacks do you keep? Which great player gets left off because of positional depth? Is your team represented throughout the decades or does it represent the time you first became a fan? Curious to hear your process and all-time team!

    Resource and Criteria

    1.  I used this database to help me remember and comb through names…https://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/buffalo-bills/alltime-roster?letter=B

    2.  My Criteria for choosing players was based on 4 things

    • The player spent 2 or more years on the roster
    • I picked players I thought would be quality players regardless of era or football rules. These players would fill their role well in any era.
    • Position mattered. I was looking for my best team. I would rather have that 6th CB over say my 8th top RB in Bills history.
    • I tried to look at what the player did as a Buffalo Bill and not based on what they may have done before or after their time with Bills.

Just a guess, but I think that was pretty normal back then. Kickers weren't really hitting 50+ yards frequently, nor were they expected to. I remember when Christie hit a 53 yarder in the SB & it was a record. Norwood's kick was only 4 yards less, so I think it's fair to assume it wasn't common at that time.

    Yeah, but 2-10?

  8. 1 minute ago, eball said:

    No question it’s good.

It's crazy to me actually why we kept Norwood for as long as we did. In his career, he only made 60% of his kicks between 40-49 yards and was only 2-10 from 50+ in his career which is only 20%.

I watched something the other day that said before he kicked that FG in the Super Bowl that he was 1-5 in 40+ yards on grass fields.

When we cut him after the 91 season, he never kicked anywhere again and he was only with the Bills for 7 seasons. That tells me other teams didn't really find him to be that great of a kicker either

It’s crazy. Christie is the best clutch kicker the Bills have ever had and probably the best overall. Bass is promising and all but he’s going into his second season and has a lot to prove in his career before I’d take him over Christie.

I've always wondered, if we had Christie instead of Norwood in that first Super Bowl, is that kick good? I think it is. Like you said, Christie very rarely missed in the clutch.

They should have done this from the start, along with the Federal Government, both entities have the legal capacity to do so, one being a private business, the other has the supreme court’s blessing from a long time ago,  so now various entities in our society are requiring vaccinations to be employed, and that will only increase, one way or another it’s going to happen.

    WTH does this even mean??😳

I’m trying to stay low key on our rookies -even the top one. He’s gonna be overwhelmed and taught so much in the coming weeks, a disappointing slide can’t be ruled out and he’s definitely going to need to add mass. AJ, on the other hand, I’m really looking forward to! He had to be upset and perhaps dismayed that as our top pick last season, he was basically told ‘yeah, no. You look like crap. Lose 30 lbs. quickly.’ He played better down the stretch and now has a full season to build up his new body with the help of the staff. His explosion and meanness have been evident these past 2 weeks.

    I’m optimistic-but not drooling.

I'm saying that with his hair he looks like bushroot and he was like a bad guy to Darkwing in the cartoon and he is treating QBs like Darkwing

Because they realized they screwed up and begged the league for an expansion franchise.  If they'd built the football stadium before the baseball stadium the Browns wouldn't have left.  They didn't do that, even though the Browns were consistently winning at the time, and the baseball team was terrible. They kept stringing Modell along over and over again.

From what I remember hearing, Modell was broke because he owed a ton of debts to people and the city of Cleveland and that's why he left. He had to go to 3 different banks to get money to bring Andre Rison there in their final year in that stadium. He wanted out before he had to pay everything he owed. It wasn't just because of the stadium issue.

Soldier Field isn't 100 years old. It's 19.  The facade surrounding the building is 100 years old.

Lambeau Field had an inflation adjusted 455 million dollar renovation in 2001 and another 150 million dollar reno in 2013.

And you are right, our stadium isn't in the group of historical stadia, nor should it be. It's old, and not everything old is historical.

And FWIW, Cleveland moved because the city jerked Art Modell around about a stadium for a LONG time.

Cleveland was pissed when Modell moved. That stadium was leased for another 2 or 3 years and they were begging for him to stay until the lease ran out. They loved the Browns and would have definitely supplied a new stadium had he stayed the length of it. They broke ground on their stadium now like a year after the other one was torn down. Why would they screw with Modell on a new stadium and willingly build a new one right after he leaves?

  14. 3 minutes ago, That's No Moon said:

    1. Remind me what happened to Cleveland.

    2. How much do you think it will cost to rebuild the entire upper deck, because that has to happen.

    3. It's still not about being outdated, it's about coming to the end of functional life of a concrete and steel structure in a winter environment with road salt usage.

Cleveland moved because of Art Modell. Not because their stadium was getting old. And Soldier Field and Lambeau field are looked at as historical landmarks. That's why they're still standing. They're older than our stadium is. Our stadium is looked at just another stadium. Lambeau Field and Soldier Field will stand another 100 years because of that
