Your feelings about Ward might have the benefit of hindsight. At the time he was KC’s best corner. He signed a 3 yr 42mil deal with SF and is their best man-to-man coverage db today. KC’s FO had drafted enough quality DB’s for that move to be possible. Despite your opinion of him there was a big money market for him when KC let him go.

Why didn’t you include Dawson Knox in your examples? Making him one of the top paid TE’s in the league while not getting that kind of production. Then followed up with drafting a 1st round tight end. If you think those were good moves then I don’t know what to say.

While not home grown Bills did give Hyde and Poyer their first real contracts. Those were great moves. What’s not so great is having to extend them to the point of both being 30+ and over their shelf value. Compared that to KC’s talented, and cheap, secondary group and you really can’t even compare.

Beane and Veach are very similar in that they’re both GMs’ for NFL teams. One guy hands out contracts to aging vets externally and internally while the other loads up on young talented cheap labor to build his team. So yeah agree to disagree that they’re similar.

I won’t address the on the field results stuffs because it’s just sad at this point.

Veach got a big benefit from the draft haul the Chiefs got for trading Tyreek Hill...who is an uncommon talent with his speed (albeit also a bit obnoxious).  Hill initiated the whole thing with his ego and public comments.  And of course the Dolphins saw the shiny object and gave up that draft haul.  It would be interesting to see if the Bills had a "shiny object" not named Josh Allen, that was making public demands, what Beane would do.

That’s why I think KC will tag him. For the picks. Detroit is a good spot. Their secondary needs help.

Detroit has drafted well.  They'd be better served taking one of the top corners in the draft.  They should be in a position to get one.

I hear ya. Not just here but also every football show seemingly leads with KC headlines. We just have to come to term with KC being a dynasty now. Personally, I try to leave the emotions out of it. They’re at the top and deserve the respect. You can’t beat your opponent if you don’t respect and learn from them. Just my view.

The NFL Network especially!  The Chiefs are great.  We all get it.  However...outside of KC fans...we're all tired of being reminded.   As soon as I see them heading toward the KC love fest, I change the channel.

Huh. You realized this is the first year Spags has a top defense for KC right? It’s because of them drafting and developing players like Snead. Spags system didn’t produce him. His ability (along with McDuffie’s) locking up opponents’ receivers is what enabled Spags pressure packages to work so effectively.

I hope another team ponies up for his services. Because if he’s back with KC next season expect their defense to keep being one of the best.

I mean it’s not unwarranted right? They’ve been the most successful team the last 5-6 years. Winning 3 Championships while not being cap strapped. Drafting and developing players to turnover roster after roster without skipping a beat. That’s admirable. They’ve been better than everyone else at doing that. With a copy cat league like the NFL other teams will try to emulate as they should.

I hope someone ponies up for Sneed as well.  I just don't want KC to receive draft capital for him and that's my point.  Go ahead and offer Sneed the big bucks as a free agent, but if he's tagged, keep your 1st round pick and draft a CB in the first round and let KC be on the hook for the big payout.

I don't disagree that Sneed is an outstanding corner.  However, haven't there been players that were probowlers on one team and just ordinary on the next?  (Wasn't there a CB on the Panthers that did just that?)   When I said difference maker, my point was a team has to ask itself will Sneed be the difference maker to propel my team into the SB?  There aren't many teams that could say that...and in the meantime, you've just awarded KC more draft capital to replace him and save the huge cap dollars.

Veach was Sirius at 2pm talking about their desire to sign him and Jones back for next year.

They'd be foolish not to re-sign them both.  Just as Beane said he'd like to re-sign all of the Bill's free agents, it's not feasible.  In KC's case, it may be feasible but both Jones and Sneed will cost top dollar.

Curious as to why you feel he wouldn’t be a difference maker for other teams? He has proven to be a top corner the last couple of years.

He has a great supporting cast at KC in a Spags controlled defense.  He could well be an effective corner on another team...but he may not be.  I wouldn't give up a lot of draft capital to find out.  I'd take a chance on KC either keeping him at a huge payday or letting him go.

  7. Teams would be foolish to trade for Sneed.  Let KC threaten to franchise and trade him.  He's not going to be a difference maker in any other team's secondary.  Let KC franchise him and then be stuck with a huge deal in addition to what they have to pay Jones.

I think Safety will be the position we address in FA

I agree.  There are plenty available that won't command too much.  It makes sense to address those positions in the draft that carry large cap numbers...WR, DT,  Edge, CB, OT and build those positions through the draft.

  9. One Bills Live just had Daniel Jeremiah on.  He was talking about positions in this draft.  He said the D line position drops off dramatically by the middle of the 2nd round whereas there is depth at WR.  Based on the Bills needs he opined that at 28, you grab your  Dline player Edge or Tackle and wait on your WR.  The only exception he'd make is if Brian Thomas is there.  His concern about Tony Franklin is his frame.  He's like Tank Dell who had an outstanding year, but wasn't durable enough to be available in the playoffs.  He thinks Adonai Mitchell will also show well at the combine and at his pro day or individual workouts.

At Safety, he has none in his Top 50 players.  He sees them mainly as depth pieces who will largely play on Special Teams as opposed to being immediate starters, although he did sight Tyler Nubin's productivity at Minnesota.

    Who’s Sneed?

L'Jarius Sneed is the Chiefs number one CB who had a season that rivaled Gilmore's best.

We’ll see.  Jones already said he’s coming back.  I’m sure they’ll work something out.

They likely will unless Jones gets a lights out offer elsewhere.  Still...if Jones is looking for $28M plus per season, that will tie up a lot of capspace.

We didn’t sign any high priced vets last year?  Certainly not on offense.

Beane’s goal (if Diggs stays) should be Mike Evans / Michael Pittman Jr / Trade

if you miss on those, at least get Curtis Samuel or Darnell Mooney who are instant upgrades from Sherfield as a floor with potential to be very impactful.

AND regardless you get a WR in Round 1 + another in Round 2-4

We signed a high priced vet in Miller...at a contract that ties the team's hands.  Yes it looked good for a while.  Then he got injured.  We put more eggs in that basket than we should have.   Sign a couple lower priced vets...but build through the draft.

$255.4 million cap should reduce some of the pain at one bills drive.  It definitely changes the combination of options that Beane will need to use to get cap compliant.  For me, the Miller deal seems like the boat anchor dragging the entire ship down.  We've seen bad contract decisions force teams around the league to compound the damage by getting rid of important contributors on their teams or digging the cap hole deeper.  I'm hoping Beane can avoid this.

Hopefully Beane learned through this year's playoffs that the Bills need to provide Josh with more weapons to put more points on the board.  Signing high priced vets to make a "difference" especially older vets...doesn't provide the difference you need to win.

Sneed definitely isn’t taking a cut. He has never gotten paid.

Jones I could see taking a smaller deal with more years.

He has said in the past he wants Aaron Donald money.  With his performance in the playoffs and this year...he should get paid more than Donald!

@jkeerie I was being sarcastic and mocking the whole "sky is falling" theme that is dominating this thread.  I thought that was obvious.

Nothing is obvious on this board, Capco.  The opinions by some are so extreme most especially when it comes to the Chiefs vs Bills.  I'm glad we can count you among the more level-headed.  A punter is not going to move the needle much considering Townsend was solid and consistent.

  15. The Chiefs have won 3 SBs.  I think it needs to be remembered though, that two of those SBs were against the same team...the 49ers...coached by Shanahan who has a penchant for poor coaching in the SB.  Mahomes is great, Jones is great, Reid is great, Spags is great.  You cannot downplay the collective quality of just those four.  However...it was Shanahan and the 49ers.  So...there you go.

This is why Tannenbaum doesn't have a NFL job!!

Thank you!  Yesterday on NFL Live, they were discussing the future of Russell Wilson and Tannenbaum suggested that the Jets should sign him to be Rodgers backup! He was serious!  When the other 3 panelists reminded him that Hackett was still the OC on the Jets...and that it was a disaster when the two of them were on Denver...he still thought it was a good idea.  Hannah Storm ended the segment thanking Tannenbaum for the good laugh!

I definitely haven’t said that Mahomes hasn’t had any advantages. He had a lot of offensive talent around him in his first few seasons, his defense was very good this year, and his coach is great with quarterbacks. But a lot of these narratives are bogus. You can’t say that the Buffalo staff could never scheme someone open when the very play we’re talking about was taken from the Bills. And you can’t say that Allen’s been at a disadvantage in terms of offensive talent the last few years.

I don't know what "these narratives" you are talking about that are bogus.  I'm also not saying that the Bills are hampered by play calling (especially since Brady took over) or that Allen has been at a disadvantage.  Not having an advantage is not he same as having a disadvantage.  The Bills receivers this year were not as good as they have had in the past and in the playoffs they dropped passes and did not execute.  That is not a disadvantage.   That is not adversity.  That is bad football, and you cannot expect to win in the playoffs when you play poorly and do not execute.

Making excuses for what? I’m the only one on this board not making excuses.

I doubt the Chiefs would miss the playoffs in any division. It’s not like the Bills face murderers row in the East. KC went 2-0 vs their toughest competition this year.

Bills fans definitely thought KC’s receivers were weak a few weeks ago. There was zero respect for them before the game in Buffalo. What made you develop respect for them since? 30-50 yards per game and catching a majority of passes that hit them in the hands for once?

You are making excuses as to the Chiefs weren't good this year and other years and yet they still win SBs.  You are also basically saying that Mahomes has had no advantages in his career whatsover.  Where he has had more than most.  This in no way negates his individual talent.  As to his receivers...the point was all the miscues they were making all season which you point out, stopped in the playoffs.  I'm complementing the team.  They played great!  Mahomes is great!  Now...since you're such a huge Chiefs fan, please go back to their forums and bask in the glow of another Super Bowl versus coming to a competitors forum to brag about your team.

Another example that the Mcd philosophy schemes doesn't work !

According to Shanahan's presser, the problem was Wilks was working with the SF defensive scheme previously run by Salah and DeMeco Ryans.  Wilks...not coming from that system...was not as successful.  There was a disconnect.

Obviously he wouldn't have 3 SBs this soon if he had landed with a terrible organization, but no QB in history would. A run like this requires several things to be in place. That said, the narrative that Mahomes has had everything a QB could ask for is way off. Bad WR play this year, weak WRs last year, weak running game most years, worst run blocking in the league for a few years, bad tackle play at times, defenses that ranged from bad to average-ish until this year. And when he had a truly loaded offense in his first season, he had arguably the worst defense in the league.

To this day, I don't think there's been a truly balanced KC roster. They finally put together a really good defense, and then the offense takes a big step back. I don't think it's going to get any easier for opponents the next few years, because I think Veach is going to aggressively look to bolster the offensive talent this offseason, and there will be some solid receivers available.

Okay.  This is where you're becoming a Mahomes apologist...making excuses.  What you're citing is the norm for any team in the NFL.  No team is perfect every year.  The truth is Mahomes has been given more than most if not all.   Chiefs have had no competition in their division...so they make the playoffs every year with Mahomes.  The key is that despite flaws exhibited in the regular season, the Chiefs show up and show out in the playoffs.  All those "weak" WRs played well when it counted.  And Jones it could be argued is the best DT in the game.  He's a real difference maker.
