Sure, but the game was still RIGHT THERE at the end for the taking. That had nothing to do with injuries to the defense.

Yes...and what it showed is that the Bills need more playmakers...aka wide receivers on offense to compete.  We were in the game even with that banged up D.  Josh had nowhere to go with the ball more times than not.

Howdy everyone I just wanted to hear your thoughts about something that took place today in my journey of fatherhood.

I'm a father of five boys and my oldest is 13 and asked me if he still had to be a Bills fan. Let me rephrase that he asked his grandma my mom to ask me if it's okay if he stops being a Bills fan....

I've never felt guilty for encouraging  my boys to be  Bills fans as I'm a son of Buffalo I was born there and my whole family on my father's side lives there. When my mother asked him why he said because it's become too upsetting and it's not fun anymore. He said he asked her to ask me because he knew it would break my heart.

This isn't a Pity post to be honest and I'm not the type that's going to be like I'm never going to watch this team again or I give up and all that crap that a lot of posters say.... it was a tough season and sometimes when you're extremely close things seem so far away...

What I'm really looking for is good advice for when I sit down and talk with my boys about this season Etc and being a Bills fan in general I'm sure some of you that are older and wiser than I have had to talk with your sons and daughters....

I truly see this team as very close.... some more addition by subtraction is needed thank God Bean has drafted some really good talent the past few years to soften the blow of our aging vets as they fade and move on... just a few key pieces I know we say this every year but a few pieces and I think we're there maybe a new coach too maybe not I know that's going to rile some people up but sometimes I'm just unsure about McDermott....

One before I die just one before I die please

I am 70 years old and one thing I learned rather early on was to become a fan of the sport.  Having a favorite team is great...and I will always root for and love the Bills.  However, favorite teams will often disappoint you.  There is parity, there are injuries, and there is just plain bad luck.  So I have become a fan of football...both the Pros and college, in which I also have 4 teams I follow being an alum of 3 and having served in the AF.  By enjoying the sport, it tempers that disappointment which is all too frequent and allows you to enjoy good game play.  Following college football gives you a degree of knowledge heading into the draft.  You also become less knee jerk reactionary when seasons end and can go year to year with a healthier perspective.

In no way do I expect Tee Higgins to sign for 9 million a year. I full expect him to get a 5 year 100 million dollar deal. What I am suggesting is his cap hit year 1 is 9 million which is doable. Then after this season Diggs would be gone and Higgins cap hit would go into the 20-25 million range much like diggs is now. I personally like the idea of a proven young receiver over a 1st round pick. If that receiver doesn’t hit your looking at a bad situation next year and even worse the following year if diggs is gone.

I actually read your post as being $9 M for year one only with year two being when base and bonus begin to hit.

I may be overly optimistic. I may be a fool. I do believe the Bills as they transition to the second stage of Josh Allen's career are not going to see the drop off and chaos that other teams deal with when having to release players due to pricing themselves out of the salary cap.

My reasoning is I think the Bills and more importantly Brandon Beane discovered something this year observing the team and the NFL as a whole.

The Bills have definitely shown a greater focus towards adding talent to the defense and it has come at the expense of the offense. As we see a lot of the veteran defensive players age out and move on, it sets up a unique opportunity for the Bills to shift more cap towards offensive weapons.

I think at the very least this season we saw McDermott show he can do more with a lot less talent on defense. (I am aware a lot of you want him gone. I don't think he is going anywhere) Under Beane we saw numerous drafts where we spent high end picks on the defense and tried to make do with players drafted in the later rounds on the offense.

Beane must realize after witnessing the poor play of our outside receivers that this team isn't going too far unless they add legit top end talent to the offensive side of the ball. He has a phenomenal start with Cook, Kincaid, Shakir an offensive line that should be together another 5 seasons. Minus Morse.

Find guys later in the draft that McDermott can turn into capable starters on the defensive side of the ball. Start giving Josh outside weapons and guys who put pressure on the secondary and beat zone consistently on all three levels and man coverage.

The future isn't shot. The Bills haven't come close to maximizing Josh's talent on offense. For all the money we have poured into the defense it still hasn't come close to having key stops when we have needed it in the playoffs.

Let's just build a juggernaut on offense instead of a Josh Allen Superman show on offense.

Offense wins in this league. Not surprising Mahomes best seasons were with Hill and a younger Kelce. That Lamar is having his best year when the Ravens went and got him reciever talent. That Burrow has been the only QB to beat Mahomes with insane reciever talent. To win you need a top flight QB and a great cast of reciever talent around him. Bills have never surrounded Josh with top reciever talent outside Diggs. Time to get on that. Starting this off season.

Excellent post.  As hard as it was to watch the Bills lose last night, that game left me with a lot of hope moving forward for just the reasons that you note in your post.

  5. Pulling for the Ravens.  They've been a solid team all year in a very physical division.

KC had an easy road in the playoffs...playing a defensively depleted, non-physical finesse team in the Dolphins.  Bills, even though they got the win, were beat up in a very physical wildcard game with the Steelers, allowing KC to again face a depleted defense.   So...I am hoping the Ravens physically beat up the Chiefs.

I will be rooting for Detroit in the NFC.  Detroit is such a positive story.

If Detroit makes it past SF...I will root for them in the SB.  If SF prevails, I will root for a good, competitive game.

Sure there is, we could all be jets or patriots fans, we are kings of the AFCE, 😁👍 remember there are more important things in life than football, be happy we live in the first world, things could be a whole lot worse,

    GO BILLS!!!

Did anybody watch Get Up this morning?  It was very clear that the majority (Dan Orlovsky, Mike Greenberg, and Rex Ryan) were pulling for the Bills and especially Josh Allen.  Ryan Clark was the only one who was critical of Josh.  Anyway, Orlovsky called attention to all the great young QBs in the AFC, with Mahomes, Allen, Lamar and now Stroud highlighted.  While looking at Greenberg he said words to the effect "not every team has one."  Greenberg just told him to shut up.

No more tweaking.  Tear it down.

I don't think that means a wasted year either.

Our defense will still have Oliver, Rousseau, Milano, Bernard, Douglas, Benford, Johnson.  Just need to add enough to make it a middle of the pack group.

On Offense, if we take this tear it down strategy, I'd rather keep Morse.  Bring back this Top 5 OL.  Know you have Shakir, Kincaid, Knox and Cook.  Draft WR's early and often.  Preferably doubling up on Day 1 and Day 2.

This makes sense.  If anything, last night's game showed that the Bills can go toe-to-toe with the Chiefs with a backup defense...if we can get more skill players in the receiver position.  Josh fell short in this game because he had no one to throw to other than Kinkaid and Shakir.  Diggs made a few plays but was largely unreliable.  I would target WR, DT, and S early in the draft.  It would be nice if Shorter can develop at WR.  I definitely would re-sign Ty Johnson as the number two RB.  On defense, I would also like to keep DaQuon and I agree on Morse as I believe he is a steadying force on the oline.

  8. We are all emotional and hurting because we finally got KC here.  Objectively the Bills injuries just caught up with them.  Just as we got healthy enough at the end of the season to win the division...the wildcard game cost us going into the divisional round.   Playing against a team like KC...who came into the game healthy...you can't expect to hold them out of the end zone.  The practice squad call ups  at LB and WR which were necessary...caused us to have to use a gimpy punter which didn't help field position.  The last few plays offensively after the two minute warning were bad.  However we had a FG in our back pocket.  Bass misses it.  I'll criticize McD for that fake punt, but as it turned out, it didn't hurt the Bills.

So...go Ravens!  As to the Bills, coaching-wise we need a better special teams coordinator.  Roster wise we need better WRs among getting younger at safety.

I normally park in someone’s yard on Big Tree. With the storm I imagine almost all of the parking around the stadium will be closed. Are the Bills going to have their entire parking lot plowed enough to fit all of the cars?

Polencarz was encouraging people to carpool because likely people who have parking in their yards won't have them cleared.
