    Come on.

Yes, absolutely the ST coach should have called a squib.

But McDermott couldn't spoken to him through the head phones and said "Lets make sure we do the squib here.  I REPEAT - LETS MAKE SURE WE DO THE SQUIB HERE !!!"

What was McDermott doing during that critical time in the game ?  Leaving the responsibility for such a critical call to someone else ???

It appeared that everyone on ST's was ready for a squib kick.  Everyone but Bass.   Apparently no one pulled him aside to tell him.  You could see the teams players throwing their arms out when the ball was kicked like...WTF????

Reid and others have been to and won many SB’s.  McD was basically excusing the inability to sniff one.

agree the roster is setup to win. Disagree with the Mahomes issue.  Allen is a better playoff and reg season QB.  The reason we have not won is coaching related—particularly the D.

I agree coaching is a big part...but injuries particularly on defense the last two years cannot be ignored.  Injuries happen but multiple starters at every level of the defense have had a huge impact.  Yet the Bills lost by less than 6 pts.

  3. The press has questioned McD about the Bills not reaching the SB.  One inferred that since Josh has not yet reached the SB, he hasn't been successsful.  McD defended him saying it was a narrow minded view to suggest the SB as the only crriteria for success.  He offered that Josh has been successful and the Bills have been successful.   However, he continued with "they need to take the next step."

They played the footage on NFL Live and the question was posed to Sam Acho and Mina KImes whether they agreed with McD.  Interestingly, they did, reasoning that if the only criteria to define success is winning a SB, there are very few successful teams.  They also cited the 17 year drought and the strides the Bills have taken since McD got here and Josh was drafted.  Like this board, they stated that unfortunately the Bills got successful at the same time Mahomes was drafted by KC.  So...there is another step to be taken beyond their current success.  Mina talked about the current roster more favorably than what has been offered by the media since all of the cuts had occurred.  She mentioned their need to get younger, and then cited their loss of talent...which to me was rather contrary since the players they've moved on from are largely the older players.   Still...I was appreciative of the positive comments.

McKay said “mostly”…subtext: “Except when the Bills are in the divisional round, preferably attempting to bring down a Kansas City wide receiver, and imposition of the penalty would result in first and goal Kansas City, thusly ensuring a last second Patrick Mahomes win.”

They just had Dean Blandino on One Bills Live.  He talked about the potential new kick off rules...likely being tabled to the May meeting.  He also addressed the Hip drop tackle and confirmed that the initial enforcement will be through film reviews and fines, not flags...as it will be a learning curve for both players and the referees.

WR1 is absolutely a dire need.

WR2 has been a dire need for years and ignored.

Now Diggs is approaching WR2 status and the WR room is still lacking a true WR1.

I like Beane … but his refusal to address the WR position has been painfully consistent.

I don't look at it as a refusal to address the WR position as much as where we've been drafting, the quality has not been there in the first round at the WR position.  It could be argued that even the WRs we've taken in later rounds have been just as good as those taken in the 2nd round for the most part.   I am hoping that with the depth at that position in this year's draft, Beane uses one of the first two picks on a WR...the first if one of the top guys is there for the taking.

The Patriots are the dark horse here in my view. They need serious help, and with a new coach are allowed a little wiggle room before having to panic.

Vikes send 11, 23, and nex years’ 2nd to move up to 3. NE then sends their 3rd this year to Chicago to get Fields. They go WR at 11, OT at 23, and they have just filled 3 of their biggest needs. If Fields is bad, you’ll be in a position to get a better QB next year. They have the convenience of time for their new staff to get it right and can afford to shore up everything before QB if needed. If Fields does well, they’re set and they got some good quality picks in addition.

Wasn't next year's second part of the trade with Houston?

I wouldn't say the Bills have neglected WR as much as people here suggest. They traded for Diggs, who was and/or certainly became a top-5 receiver in the league. He wasn't cheap. They signed John Brown who had a great 2019 season (72 catches, 1060 yards), then flamed out a year later. They signed Cole Beasley in 2019, and he posted two really good seasons and had a solid third year. There were reasons to think Isaiah McKenzie could take over in the slot, but he fell out of favor with McDermott and obviously underachieved. Everyone here (rightly) thought Gabe Davis would turn into a superstar after the 2021 Divisional playoff loss. The Bills were widely considered to have one of the best 1-2 punches in the league. Davis then was hit-or-miss the rest of his tenure. The Bills have made some low-risk, high-upside efforts at filling out the WRs corps with Crowder, Sherfield, Harty. Crowder was legitimately an exciting addition but got injured instantly. Shakir showed promise and got a bigger role as time went on and now appears to be a long-term option.

I don't know. When you're paying top dollar for Diggs and had what you thought was your #2 in Davis, while having solid vets like Brown and Beasley in prior years, I can certainly understand why the Bills weren't going all-in on drafting receivers. Besides, they've been drafting at the end of the 1st round. Some of these drafts have been pretty top-heavy with the elite WRs.

They've also done well with the WR picks in the later rounds.  Davis was a good number 2 until he got the dropsies and Shakir has been excellent and seems to be getting better with more playing time.

Jefferson trade rumors, Mahomes restructure, Texans and Jags money machine go brrrrrr.

Today has certainly taken a turn.

I ecpected a restructure for Mahomes.  Bengals are not paying $30M per year to Jefferson...not with Chase up for a contract next year.  So I don't expect much from that rumor.  I thought Jags already had decent WRs so don't know how many wins they've added.  Texans have made some solid moves.  Can't deny that.

He prefers to return to Jacksonville? Damn. That would be a lot of money the past couple of seasons going to Ridley, Kirk, and Davis. I'd have figured he'd want to go somewhere less crowded. Though if the options for top pay are Jacksonville and New England - can't say I blame him.

I will say that when it comes to the unknown, unnamed "dark horse" team - that very well could be us. That's what we were described as  in the Von Miller sweepstakes. Beane keeps things so close to the vest that the media doesn't know what we're doing until we do it.

That said, with the latest on Ridley being he's debating between the Jags and the Pats since - my guess is if we were the "dark horse" team, it wasn't the top paying option.

It's clear that the WR class in the Draft is complicating Free Agent WR's. Most teams, us included, are hesitant to pay the price tags on these top guys when you can just Draft a guy who could likely be even better.

Jags are pussyfooting.  Apparently, if they sign Ridley prior to the start of the league year, they have to give Atlanta a 2nd round pick (per the initial trade agreement).  If however, he is signed after the start of the league year, the compensation is only a 3rd round pick.  Shefter was talking about this today on NFL Live.

  10. This was expected and Chris Jones is getting the money he wanted and deserves...$32M per year.  As to KC trading Sneed...I know there is interest from a number of teams, but if they are smart, they hold out.  KC is asking for a 2, or so I've heard.  Now with Jones' cap hit, they will be more desirous of moving Sneed to get his $19M off the books...or they could renegotiate...but it's still going to cost them likely $16M per year.  So...teams should not be in a hurry to help KC out.  They've won 3 SBs...they should pay a major price for that to the players largely responsible.

I’m ok with a move down, but it won’t recoup a 3rd unless they move down quite a ways.

Well perhaps it's a low 3rd (which they were expecting anyway) and the Bills have to give up one of their lower round picks in exchange.

Now I would really like Beane to trade down in Round 1 if possible, even to the top of Round 2 if needed. The realistic WR targets there - Coleman, Franklin, Legette - are likely still going to be available a few picks later. Get a 3rd rounder if at all possible.

Also with all of these day 3 picks in our bag I would actually use all of them, don't be tempted to trade them away to move up the board. We need the bottom of our roster to get a lot cheaper and start maximizing the value of day 3 rookie contracts. If we plan it right we will be able to make one splash signing in FA because we won't have all our money tied up in overpaid rotational/depth players.

This makes sense especially if the Bills are targeting WR with their first pick.  They could drop down a few slots, recoup a 3rd round pick and still have a nice selection of WR targets.
