Still cracks me up that we gave Mahomes to the Chiefs
Yobogoya! replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
Out of all the stupid things I can criticize this regime for, this trade is a pretty nothing burger for me honestly. No one batted a lash at the time of the trade, and Mahomes sat for a full year with no one giving a crap. He was not some slam dunk selection. I do think we got hosed moving down to 27 from 10 tho. We should have reaped more for that trade in general, wouldn’t matter who KC wanted. But our GM was a lame duck Doug Whaley at the time so 🤷♂️ -
Pretty sure McD has only gotten a single 10 sack season out of just one player— Leonard Floyd last year. Scheme and design must have at least a little something to do with that. That and his trademark “rotation” for maximum “freshness”.

Von Millers name was not mention ONE TIME last night!
Yobogoya! replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah I was gonna say I heard it mentioned all the time in the game day thread as people wondered aloud where he was and what he was doing 😅 -
We need new ideas on both sides of the ball.
Yobogoya! replied to Yobogoya!'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. We’ve seen coordinators on that side of the ball get just as ravaged by injury as Bills D has been in the past and do more with what they had left. I think his pressure packages are incredibly weak. The contrast between McD and Spags is night and day, both with Jim Johnson disciples but for whatever reason McD can’t scheme up pressure to the same extent. Of course if we had a Chris Jones that would help a lot, too. -

I think that’s a fair point, but let me ask— do you think Beane is going rogue with his draft picks, or is he getting the type of players McDermott is asking him for? OBD is difficult to assess this regime, because of how interconnected McBeane is as a tandem. Beane was literally brought on by his coach, after all. I know Beane makes the selections, but surely he’s using McDermott’s criteria for what he wants. No? -

This entire topic is about adding ideas WITHOUT firing either coordinator, and my suggestion was to add somebody on one or both sides of the ball who might be able to help with these situations. All it takes is one idea better than what Brady had for those two point plays. That’s a small thing but the outcome could have been huge. I asked who was out there who might fit the position of advisor without firing guys who won’t be fired. It’s hypothetical. If you don’t like this thought exercise you can leave the topic lol. -

It says if we had someone on the sideline who could create a couple successful two pt plays in that game we win. What are you trying to say? You implicitly trust this staff to have the right answers next time? Or will we give the Chiefs their toughest out again while they four-peat? -

It’s not about just yardage and points — in big time situations we didn’t have the answers we needed. The failed two point conversions were pitiful. The Neanderthal repeated QB sneaks were absurd. It’s not as if our coordinators deserve no credit for the season, but they were outmatched this game. Fresh ideas are needed. -

Moral victories don’t go down in the record books. Situationally, there was opportunities that we had and missed on. Gotta mix it up somehow, this is a game of inches and we always come up just inches short. -
The toughest pill to swallow about keeping McDermott around is that aside from ST coordinator who absolutely has has HAS to be flipped, we’re likely bringing back both Brady and Babich as the process certainly dictates they get another year to grow and develop. And I’m not trying to call for either of their heads — it’s an unfortunate circumstance that we’ve got two inexperienced coordinators who have had the unenviable task of trying to out-scheme and out-call two all time greats in Reid and Spags. But fact is we can’t waste away more of Josh’s prime waiting for our coaching staff to develop. My concern is there’s just not enough fresh or diverse ideas at OBD, and McDermott alone clearly doesn’t have answers to stop the Chiefs and Mahomes. Is there anyone we could entice to take on an assistant HC/ defensive quality control or something that could make an impact? Or assistant HC/ passing game coordinator? Gus Bradley seems to be on a downturn, but he helmed those famous Seahawks defenses and schematically seems like he might be compatible on that side of the field. Would McDermott ever swallow his pride enough to allow fresh ideas onto his unit? Is there anyone we could blend into the offensive side to give Brady some help? Cuz I can’t watch the Neanderthal strategy of trying to use the tush push half a dozen times into a wall of defenders with no adjustments. I can’t. The McDermott process echo chamber needs to mix it up.

In some ways, this is worse than the drought in my opinion
Yobogoya! replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's crazy to think we've had almost 100 wins over the last 8 years and it could still feel this miserable, lol. The groundhog day repeat of being letdown in the postseason vs the same team is what makes it truly intolerable. It's just too painful to keep watching this play out the same way every postseason. -
Why moving on from McDermott is tough due to logistics
Yobogoya! replied to iccrewman112's topic in The Stadium Wall
The problem with keeping McD is that we are thus guaranteed to keep his defensive scheme, which is scientifically proven to be dead meat vs the Chiefs every postseason. Harbaugh and Shanahan and Campbell can all move on from their DC's if they aren't getting it done. Hell, Reid ditched his long-time DC when he realized he needed to take his defense to the next level to win a championship -- and that's when the unholy union of him and Spagnuolo came about. We needed more proven coordinators with some diverse ideas the last couple years, but McDermott has opted for the status quo and he will never hire a DC who's going to conflict with his ideas of what he wants on that side of the ball. And unfortunately what he wants just isn't working, and isn't ever going to. -
A "Tush Push" to the right just once would have been nice....
Yobogoya! replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's funny how people deluded themselves that the Bills were "saving" something for the postseason. I was screaming for this, but for whatever reason we never used their over-commitment against them. When people say our coaches are letting us down, this is what they're talking about. There was a big play waiting to be made against the stacked, sell-out defense KC was using against the QB sneak to the left and our staff just either doesn't see it, doesn't know what to do, or simply doesn't care. -
The chatter around the Worthy trade isn't rational
Yobogoya! replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
If contested catches is your one special trait you’d better be elite at it. Cause if you’re not elite doing it, then you’re not good. There’s really no room for inbetween. -
McDermott has a ton of input on personnel. The high character, leadership guys are what he demands. As a regime, they don’t place a premium on talent over those types of characteristics. Which I understand the sentiment, but we need ballers on this team. We need mean ass holes. We need big guys who won’t be pushed around.
