I like a few QB's in the draft but nowhere near as much as most seem too. I'm really interested in what the average person around here sees that I don't. I would love to know what your best NFL comparison is to who you think the top prospects could become. The way I see it:

Sam Darnold = Chad Pennington, Sam Bradford

Josh Rosen = Geno Smith, Andy Dalton, Possible attitude comp: Jay Cutler

Baker Mayfield = Drew Brees, Doug Flutie

Josh Allen = Ryan Mallet, Kyle Boller

Lamar Jackson = Mike Vick, Tyrod Tylor

Mason Rudolph = Case Keenum, Blake Bortles

Any of these guys could turn out to be a star in the right situation but they all have significant bust potential. We definitely have to draft a Qb this year but I wouldn't trade the majority of the Bills picks for any of these guys. The second tier guys Kyle Lauletta, Mike White, Riley Ferguson, Luke Falk are not that far off.

    Geno Smith? Really?

Except he said it when they were leading the league in rushing. Dawkins and Groy are younger, John Miller, who should unseat Ducasse for RG this season, is young. Mills is like, 29 or 30... and then there's Richie who's 34 but also happens to be a very good big-bodied athlete. Under Roman's scheme he was constantly pulling and setting the tone in the run game. I just don't see how you can knock an OL that's led the league in rushing for two straight seasons and say the guy is informed.

We led the league in rushing because we had a mobile QB.

    8-8, 9-7.

This is the issue. The Bills oline almost never kept a pocket. There was almost always pressure up the middle. The RG was basically beat on every play. What happens when the middle is collapsing and the QB can't escape? You guys think these young QBs will come in and be Brady. They won't. Bills basically have Shady and a bunch of junk on offense. I don't understand why no one see this.

Can't see what isn't true. You are making things up. Yeah, Taylor was under pressure sometimes, like every single QB in the league, but there were countless times he sat back there with eons to throw the ball and did nothing.

Yeah but he's pretty out of touch with the game and players of the current era. Plus, he has a reputation as a massive pr*ck to work with. Evidently just a miserable guy and his mood would permeate the entire office. People always felt like they were walking on eggshells around him.

This is just a theory of my own but I actually think it was the Pegula's who ultimately decided NOT to hire him as their "football czar" after meeting with him and likely hearing how he would want to run things and also seeing just how out of touch he is with the current era. I say this because since then, he hasn't had the nicest or most informed things to say about the Bills. I think it was just before the 2017 season that he referred to the Bills OL as "aging and unathletic" and this was after they had led the league in rushing in '15 & '16. For the record, I'm not concerned about the media spinning negativity about the Bills, I just kinda feel like maybe Polian was really on board to be "the czar" here and after the Pegula's got to know him a little better they were like, "Eh, thanks but no thanks. You can say that you declined our offer if that makes you feel better."

The Bills OL absolutely is aging and unathletic. He hit the nail on the head with that one.

We've talked about this before and some people agree with me, but I really think McDermott shelved the idea of taking a quarterback until he had his own GM and scouts etc in place. Why would he make such a huge decision with Whaley and his scouts when he knew Whaley was gone after the draft?

This is the year for the quarterback.

    This makes sense.

As long as he doesn't play it's fine. When you fill the bottom of your roster with terrible players who are expected to start, you are in a bad way. Newhouse is fine as long as he is like the 4th tackle.

In what situation would a "bottom of your roster" player be expected to start? That would make them a "Top of the Roster" player.

Professionals draft poorly at times. Sign bad free agents. Write contracts that are horrible. Just being a "professional" means little more at times.

When you see a guy that constantly struggles on the field like Newhouse..well let's just say even a fan can have an accurate educated guess as to how it's going to go. That said, players like Newhouse are needed to fill out a roster. Cannot have 53 All-Pros...and the Bills are pretty broke this year. It wouldn't be a bad signing for depth as he is versitle. But as Beane said, FA aqusitions for us at this point won't move the needle.

Yeah, the professionals who make the big bucks absolutely make mistakes, which tells me that putting almost any fan in that position would be a complete and utter disaster.

Don't you know McBeane is god and they have all the answers and we are just pathetic fans who's opinion is laughable compared to the utter brilliance of McBeane?

Other than McBeane being god, I agree with this. Fans who think they know more than the professionals are silly.
