Kadarius Toney to the Chiefs for picks
BuffaloBillyG replied to wolfpack78's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree. Timing of the move is odd considering Juju is coming off back to back good games and MVS went for over 100 last week I believe. I think it speaks a bit to Skyy Moore being a bit of a disappointment for them so far this year. Toney has talent, for sure. However a poor attitude, poor work ethic or injuries have stalled many careers of players far more talented. And he has been reported to have ALL 3 of those red flags. -
Week 8: SNF Packers at Bills (-10.5) 10/30 8:20pm

I fully believed this until I saw that Moss wasn't included. -
I find the lack of Ryan Fitzpatrick costumes disturbing.

He is and he's one of the rare players on divisional teams that I enjoy watching. And while Chase and Burrow are great together they are completely different than Diggs and Allen. If Burrow doesn't have time then Chase can't get free deep which is their bread and butter. Burrow isn't exactly great at extending the play like Allen is. There will be plays where Diggs absolutely shakes Sauce out of his shoes. I would expect the young CB to make some plays as well but I think over the course of the game Diggs will provide some great learning lessons for Sauce.

I'll hope the Pats win to give the Bills a bit of breathing room. Things I'm hoping for in this game: 1. Mac Jones looks good. Let him show just enough to keep the job and thereby keeping the Pats in QB purgatory. 2. Sauce continues to shine. Let him keep showing out...because in a couple weeks Allen and Diggs will give him his official "welcome to the NFL". 3. As a James Robinson fantasy owner I'm hoping for at least a TD from him. 4. Zach Wilson and Mac Jones get into a slap fight after the game. 5. More odd facial expressions from Belichick's kid.

Going off OvertheCap.com (which is not gospel but does provide a sensible baseline IMO) the figured cap relief from potential restructures next year are as follows: White: $5,880,000 Allen: $21,536,000 Diggs: $5,596,000 Morse: $3,287,500 Dawkins: $6,393,750 HYDE: $4,301,250 Miller: $10,864,000 Milano: $6,315,000 Grand Total: $64,173,500 Granted they will not do all of those restructures. But they have plenty of wiggle room to play with. Notice also that a restructure (or an extension for that matter) with Hyde would actually save a bit more than a trade or cut. Add into that the fact that the salary cap will jump again next year...what's the problem? You also mention Poyer by name as an "at who's expense" example. Well he will be 32 next year, has a growing list of injuries (including a collapsed lung this year) and would cost zero dead money to part ways with next season as he's not under contract. That seems like the obvious move if someone has to be left out. Why give him a contract if, like you said Hamlin costs less than $1 million. And yes Hamiln can play both spots back there.
-
Seeing it put this way begs the question. If cutting Hyde still would cost 7 million in dead money and keeping Hyde results in only $3.8 Million dollars more...do you not think Hyde is worth that extra 3.8 million? For his leadership, experience, knowledge of the defense, how he is viewed by his teammates and how he is in the community all while (assuming he heals properly) playing at an extremely high level? Cutting or trading a team leader, a guy has earned the "C" on his chest, a guy that was still playing extremely well when he got hurt...doing that over 3.8 million of cap space is an absolutely ridiculous idea.
-
Wait, I thought the plan was to trade Hyde and move White to safety? To answer the OP (and many of the 'Can we trade so and so for a draft pick' type threads): One reason the Bills are so successful is that the do not treat players like disposable items. They take care of their own. Trading Hyde coming off an injury sends a horrible message to the guys on the roster. Yes, it is a business and yes, everyone is eventually replaceable. However, Hyde has been a large reason for the turnaround in Buffalo both on the field and in the locker room. These guys have more value than what you see on Sunday. Even out injured Hyde has remained a visible leader on this defense. Throwing out that the system makes him (and Poyer for that matter) look better than they are is such a weak stance. We could also by that reasoning say that "the system" makes Gabe Davis look better...or Diggs look better. We should just go cheaper there too, right? "The system" makes Matt Milano look better than he is too. Maybe we should trade him. If the systems are so great why ever resign anyone again? Truth is no matter how great a system is, the players make the system. Have to have the right people to plug in and operate it.

McKenzie not picking Butterfingers is a bigger upset than the Jags beating the Bills last year. -
Bills @ Lions - Thanksgiving game - Tailgate/Pregame?
BuffaloBillyG replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall
I will be "tailgating" at home with turkey, pumpkin pie and apple cider moonshine. May get wild and toss the turkey through a table before cooking it, though. -
I was under the impression that's what the other 364 days of the year were.

MNF: Chicago Bears at NE Patriots - with Manningcast!
BuffaloBillyG replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
Manningcast should just be it's own channel at this point. Like, yes absolutely watch the MNF games...but add TNF and all day and night on Sunday watching 3 games with them. Heck, I'd tune in to watch UFC, MLB, NBA, WWE, Survivor or Desperate Housewives if they were adding their commentary. Friday Night Movie of the Week with the Mannings? I'm in. -
Well, I do agree that the Bills gave the best possible support they could and all the stability in the world to Allen's development. However it takes someone with the mindset that Allen has within himself to be great to turn out the way he has. All the great coaching in the world would be useless without the players inner drive to succeed. Not every player has that mentality. What is it the young people call it these days? "Mamba Mentality?" I did like me some Edwards. Looking back on it today, I believe his physical ceiling would have been an Alex Smith type. 8 or 9 win seasons and maybe sneak into the playoffs here and there. We were just so starved for even a mediocre QB at the time that he looked amazing for what we were used to. Josh Allen has us spoiled. Had we not gotten him we would still be looking at QBs like Mac Jones and Tua and wishing we had someone as "promising" as them
-
And I believe that's a logical outlook. So with guys like Smith or Mac what do you do? Build a strong, physical defense. Powerful run game. Passing offense built on play action and one read looks. Play more cautious and try to keep the score close. Win the game in the 4th quarter. For the Patriots right now...I like their run game. Their defense has some players (Dugger would have looked so good in a Bills uni). They have no offensive flow. It just looks like a bunch of random plays being called.

"Bill Walsh gave his seal of approval to Trent Edwards so you KNOW he's going to be great!"
-
There's a ton of speculation here. However, word is that Mac is actually a very hard worker. It's his physical limitations that hold him back more than anything. Mac coming from Bama actually tells me that Belichick knew way more about Mac than most would as it's very well documented how close Saban and Belichick are. I think the issue is more that Belichick knows his time on the sidelines is winding down. There is zero chance that he approached this season as a "tank" year. Like him or hate him I will say that losing is not something he would embrace at any level or any reason. He no longer has Brady (and the benefit of phantom calls that come with Brady) to mask the fact that he has always made questionable calls on gameday. After 20 years of Brady, Belichick now has to relate to a guy in his early 20s (not an easy generation for a 70 year old man to relate to). One constant in his tenure as the HC is his reluctance to bring in new voices from the outside. He's always just brought back coaches with NE ties that failed elsewhere or promoted his son. I believe he truly thought that Patricia and Judge would do a great job and rather than bring in someone with new concepts and vision for the future he still is clinging to the "Patriot Way". Trouble is he doesn't have anyone like Brady with the aura of success carrying out those marching orders and being the golden example anymore.
-
I may get some blow back on this. So be it. While Mac Jones (and Zappe, for that matter) are limited as passers the Patriots really mishandled the whole offense this year. Jones will never be "HIM". But, with excellent coaching and a good system to support the things he does do well he is easily one of the top 32 QBs in the NFL. I'd put him in the low to mid 20s. That's where QB play in the NFL is at these days. Turning the offense over to Matt Patricia and Joe Judge as his QB coach was borderline insane. Neither Jones or Zappe will ever be that generational "franchise QB" in my opinion. However it wouldn't shock me at all if either or both go on to have a nice 10-12 year NFL career in the bridge QB/high end backup category.

Mac Jones was rated higher than Von Miller on the NFL 100 list. I don't want to hear any nonsense about the players knowing who's the best again. -
Through 7 weeks of NFL football Giants QB Danny "Dimes" has more yards rushing (343) than Najee Harris (329). Josh Allen has more TD passes (17) then the Bills have punts (11) Jared Goff has more passing yards than Matt Stafford, Geno Smith has more passing yards that Russ Wilson, and Joe Flacco and Baker Mayfield STILL have more passing yards than Justin Fields...even though Baker and Joe haven't played in weeks.

Ballard is most likely done as well. Reports are Irsey is growing tired of both. However considering that Reich spent 3 years as QB Coach and offensive coordinator in San Diego with Phillip Rivers and the went to Philly where he coached both Wentz and Foles...I doubt those 3 were brought in without his input. Ryan is a tad more random...but it likely was their last option at QB once Rodgers, Russ and everyone else were signed or traded. In any event, it may very well be time for fresh eyes on the problems in Indy.
