  1. Yeah....it's scripted.

Nothing the NFL Loves more than having the Chiefs be a contender year in and year out while BOTH NEW YORK TEAMS SUCK, the Washington team sucks, the LA teams suck, the Chicago teams sucks....and Cincy has been good...the Bills (despite the lack of a SB) are a top team....what a script!  Let's make are smallest, LEAST populous and diffiuclt to market teams, the best ones out there.  And let's make sure the three biggest markets are horrible.

    Officiating sucks for everyone.

Did you actually watch your favorite team play the 2 games against Denver they played?

Yes.  I was actually at the one in Denver.  As this is a Bills board, Id think this isn't really the place for me to go in depth breaking down the Chiefs VS Broncos this year but to summarize, KC moves the ball up and down the field on those guys in both games.  KC stumble, bumbled and herpa derped 5 TOs in the game at Denver and pretty much all those combined with the drops etc KC has struggled with were mostly KC shooting themselves in the foot.  In the 11 Point Win in KC...KC again, red zone trip after red zone trip herpa derpa.  I would tell you after watching a ton of All 22 on KC this year 90 pct of the problems KC has scoring is that the WR corps has been AWFUL at both drops AND reading zones.  They seem to have gotten it to gether at least a little bit VS the Raiders..but that's just one game.  Bad habits are tought to break.

  3. My 2 cents.  As a Chiefs fan that wants the Chiefs to win another Super Bowl, I do NOT want to see the Bills make the playoffs.  You guys are plus 101 after 11 games.  It's flukish that you find yourself in this position with your record.  The Bills would be a tough out in the playoffs and IF you guys can get into the playoffs, would be like wiping the slate clean...  Id rather see......the BRONCOS.

Funny how football works sometimes.  The freaking Broncos have a half way decent shot to make it in as we sit here.  They are fools gold!  in their 4 wins prior to Cleveland, Denver was +11 in turnovers and only had a +20 point differential in those games.  The won 3 of those games by a combined 5 points.  They were plus 2 against the Browns who are down to garbage at QB as it is.  Now their schedule gets quite a bit more favorable and they have some good tiebreakers, including a crucial head to head VS the Bills.  Denver has a game VS the Texans this week...they will probably lose, but it would be bad news for the Bills if Denver gets yet another AFC win.  The only other hard game left on Denvers schedule after that is at Detroit.  Everything else is winnable including a game VS New England.  Two VS the Chargers and the Raiders one more time.

It would be a HUGE break for ALL the AFC teams if a 10-7 Denver team claimed the the 7 seed while a 10-7 Bills team stayed home.  But that's where we are.

  4. Basically it's pretty simple.  If you just assume the Bills win VS the Chargers and Patriots (these SHOULD be wins!)

Then you need to go 3-0 :

    @ KC

    VS the Cowboys

    @ Miami

That's a tall task.  Winning 2/3 of those ....probalby pretty realistic to expect...all 3?  ....rough road ahead.

If you LOSE 1 game out of any of these last 5, and finish 10-7  ...the tiebreakers are BRUTAL.  You guys would need all kinds of help to be a 10-7 playoff team.

  5. @NoHuddleKelly12 I posted this back in OCT 2021 here to help out those traveling to KC for that years game.

Just keep in mind these are all my opinion, but I've been told these are pretty spot on...also...lets this be a guide to help you find what you like...there are TONS and TONS of BBQ places all over town beyond what I've mentioned...chances are you go into one, you'll find something good there or good about it.

KC folks are very proud of the city and I am sure you'll find everyone nice etc.  IF you can't make it to get some BBQ out on the town...just show up a few hours early to the game.  Arrowhead is in the middle of a giant 80k car parking lot and everyone tailgates...the smoke can be seen and smelled from miles away and EVERYONE will be happy to share a beer and some of whatever they got cooking with you!

Anyhow...here is the list...Hope you enjoy your visit!

Some KC BBQ comments that might be useful to those visiting KC....and remember, just like everyone has different opinions about what wings are best and what constitutes a good wing......same is true with KC sytle BBQ...these are my opinions.....and I'm not trying to tell you what is best or worst...mostly I am trying to tell you what to expect.  Most KC BBQ places are really good.  The sauce means more in KC than it does in places like Texas or Memphis etc.

    1.  Joes.  Joes is no.1 on alot of lists for good reason....it's good stuff.  If you want to make sure you limited time in KC is utilized on a sure thing....go to Joes...order a Z-man sandwich.  the Z man is an absolute good.  It's impossible not to love it.  Joes has other really good items too, but this is the signalture sandwhich and it's outstanding.  The sauce is a traditional, rich, sweet/smoky KC style sauce.

    2. Q39.  slightly upscale...but wow....you can't miss with the burnt ends plate or a Mr. Burns sandwich.  The sauce here is a bit more dark and rich, but still KC sweet.

    3. Jackstack.  The most upscale of the KC BBQ places...Jackstack is notable for it's vareity of ribs..you can get pork ribs here..but you go to this place because yo uwant beef or lamb ribs...so good!  Also...if you are into fried mushrooms....you should try them here...they are huge and tasty.  The sauce is slightly less sweet than typical KC sauce...still quite good.

    4.  Arthur Bryants.  Not located in a great part of town, but no one will bother you right near the restaurant, especially during the daytime.  Bryants is one of the KC originals...old school.  If you want a heaping mountain of meat between 2 pieces of bread with good sauced and a staggering payload of fries for a goog price..you go to Bryants.  The combo sandwich and fries will feed an army for days.  Sauce here is bit more peppery....still good though.  just sweet enough.

    5.  Johnny's.  If you want a slab of pork ribs....in my opinion...Johnny's are the best.  Good smoked sausages here too.  Sauce is typical rich sweet KC sauce.

    6.  Slaps.  Slaps is almost more famous for their variety of good sides than for their meats...wich are great too.  Slaps is a joint that you either love or hate due to the sauce.  Slaps sauce is the SWEETEST sauce in KC.  Almost like putting sweet maple syrup on your BBQ....it's not that far off.  If you prefer a darker, richer, smokier sauce, Slaps isn't going to be your thing...but if you like it sweet with good sides...this is your place.  it's quite popular.

    7.  Smokehouse.  Nothing notable...they kind of do everything good...just not great.  Reccomend the burnt ends here....sauces is a typical rich, sweet smoky sauce.

    8.  Zardas.  This one I think I problaby rank higher than most in KC...The BBQ BEANS at this place are incredible.  Best beans in KC.  You can buy them in most local grocery stores.  so good.  They have some decent specialty sandwiches.  The "Hog Wild" or Average Joe are both good.

    9.  Woodyard BBQ.  An off the beaten path type of place...unique in that they operate as a BBQ wood supplier primarily, but also operate a small BBQ joint thats quite small...most of the seating is outdoors so if you do go to this one...pick a nice sit outside kind of day. The pit is outside next to the trees/outdoor seeting as you arrive.  Smells so good. These guys offer traditional fare, but usually have a speciality item or 2 at any given moment...if they have it...try the BBQ Cheesesteak...so good!  Sauce is typical KC style sauce.

    10.  Gates.  Another of the KC originals.  Lives more off reputation than anything these days but you can still get good food here.  You may know this places as the joint wehre they yell "HI MAY I HELP YOU!!!" as you are standing in line...you give kind of yell your order back to them..all the years I've been and somehow they never screw up my order when you think surely this disorganized chaotic system can't possibly get good accurate results..but it does somehow.  Gates used to have some of the best ribs in town....best way to enjoy gates is either a beef on bun with fries, or just get a mixed plate and share it with a friend.  Gates by default, usues their original sauce on things....and gates original sauces is peppery.  I really like their sauce, but they also have a sweet n mild version that is also very good and more typical of a KC style sauce you find in most places.  They've also got a hot n spicy version.  If you aren't sure about the sauce situation, when you are ordering just yell up at the lady....for example beef on bun DRY!   Or "MIXED PLATE DRY"  they won't put any sauce on it...then you can grab some of each and see what you like.  ...don't get me wrong on my rating here...I could eat at GATES all day....but KC has so many others...and better to choose from....

    11.  Rosedales.  The last of the old schoolers...Rosedales is pretty cheap....it's not especially good, but they do have some stuff that's decent and well priced.  Smoked sausage sandwich is really good.  Alot of folks like the corn nuggets and fried mushrooms.  You can probalby get a slab of ribs here cheaper than anywhere else in town.  Rosedales has a very vinegary tart sauce....more familiar to texas BBQ than KC.  As a kid, my dad would buy a slab here and you'd eat it but try and pick around the sauce...as an adult I can appreciate the sauce now, but it's not for everyone.  Hit it up if you like a tart vinegar sauce.....or a cheap slab of ribs (with said tart sauce) ...or a pretty good cheap smoked sausage sandwich.....and some corn nuggets.

Here are few to avoid...in my opinion....the first one might be Rosedales...probalby not a place out of towners ought to try out....would ruin your first ever KC BBQ experience...but its got its good bits...anyhow....

Smokin Guns in Norht KC.  Always slow and seems dry and pricy.

    Haywards....meh

Danny Edwards.  This place has the wierd distinction of not having particullary good BBQ at the restaurant...but their catered meals are pretty damn good.  Skip if if you can.

Bandanna's.  Not sure they have a location in KC anymore....think they still operate out of St. Joe, MO.  Either way...very MEH.

Dickey's  Somehow this texas chain remains in businees at various locations...if you happen upon one.  DO NOT ENTER.  This is Texas chain BBQ.  It SUCKS.  If you do go in, just remember ths is NOT KC BBQ...we don't claim it.  Texas barely claims it.

Want some good sauce to take home?  Stop in any KC area grocery store...you'll find a whole damn isle of nothing but BBQ sauce.

FUN FACT:  When babies are born in Kc, the hospital gives them a droplet of KC style BBQ sauce

If you find a hole in the wall place not mentioned here...try it...it's most likely good.  There are many I didn't mention here.

And last....IF BBQ isn't your thing or you get tired of it and want something else...KC has an incredible mexican food scene that's hidden in the shaddows of the BBQ places.....go hit up 7th Street/Argentine district....Taqueria San Antonio..El Polo Rey and so many others down there...GREAT mexican food.

  6. After 13 seconds....it's a big ask to get everyone to get fired back up and buy back in again.  Even with the Bills bing plus 101 this year...the close game loses just instill the idea that bad things will happen at the end in close games and that the coaches aren't a steadying force, and don't have winning answers in that crucible.

That stat about a coach/QB combo that doesn't win A SB after 6 years together NEVER wins one....holds true.  It's time to move on because the Bills need a fresh outlook and clean slate.

Have you considered that maybe the strategy was wrong all along and that winning a SB without Tyreek Hill had nothing to do whatsoever with getting intentionally worse at WR but a combination of many other factors that weren't just "made possible" when Hill was traded for picks and to save money?

I mean, there was a time many years ago when the Edmonton Oilers traded Wayne Gretzky and then two seasons later won another Stanley Cup.    It was still a bad trade in the long run because they probably would have won 2-4 more Stanley Cups with him.

If Tyreek Hill strings together a 3rd and 4th year like the first 2 unbelievable seasons he's had in Miami and the Chiefs receiving corps struggles and they do not win the SB this year or either of the two subsequent seasons it could end up looking a lot like that Gretzky trade.

I'm still grateful all the time that they made that Hill trade.   Yeah he's been tough to defend 4x in a little over 12 months with Miami but the Bills have mostly dominated the Dolphins anyway.   It's a matchup league and he is the top non-QB matchup player in the NFL.

Your Gretzky trade though here......has given me something to think about.

You can double down on being wrong if you'd like...........but I think your premise has already proven very ill conceived.

When you don't have a second option who can step up it changes everything for an offense nowadays.    It's not just in KC,  it's happening all over the league in places where they don't have a good WR2 type option.

You are just going thru your first experience with not having a reliable second option during the Mahomes era...........because KC was actually out in front of the trend of surrounding their QB with high quality targets when they went out and signed Sammy Watkins to be their WR1 even though they already had two 1,000 yard receivers in Hill and Kelce.........then they drafted Hardman thinking he'd become a WR1 or WR2 type.

It finally dwindled down to Juju as the second option in 2022 while they waited for Moore and Toney to develop............but Juju has already proven that he can put up WR1 type production with a top QB when he is healthy and focused.    And he did, with top 30 counting and efficiency stats for the Chiefs in 2022.

As soon as MVS or Watson had to step up into that 2nd option spot you started seeing the same kind of inconsistency that the Bills have had with the very similar Gabe Davis.

The Chiefs have invested early round draft chips/value in Moore, Rice and Toney so I know it's not the exact same situation as the Bills,  who previous to drafting Kincaid hadn't invested anything significant in a receiving target since trading for Diggs in 2020 and drafting Zay Jones and trading for Kelvin Benjamin in 2017 prior to that............but the bottom line is that if you don't have that quality of play from your second receiving option it really matters.

I would say I don't think the strategy is wrong If you can find servicable dudes....problem is ALL of what KC has have been bad at running routes and hanging onto ball...I think they probalby thought the odds were that one or two of these guys would be good enough.  ...that said, Rice has probably been the best of the bunch but he's a rookie and they have kept his snap count down....he's earned a bigger share.

Anyhow...usually by week 10 you kind are who the stat sheets say you are..but mabye KC WR's get thier crap together here toward the end...IDK.

@Zerovoltz  "The Bills need less good receivers" thread might be the worst TSW thread of 2023.    Receivers REALLY matter.   The Chiefs may still win the SB because their D is kicking a$$ and Mahomes is still the best.........but this year their unwillingness to risk it and sign Hopkins has left them with a bunch of ball droppers running around out everywhere.    Mahomes has to be pulling his hair out.   MVS dropped a TD that probably wins this game and Watson dropped multiple passes including the 4th down pass that ended it for KC.

...I stand by my post for the reasons outlined in that post...but my GOD...the group KC has can't run routes, can't catch a cold...can't hold on the the ball if they do catch it.  (sorry to repsond to this late...haven't logged into TBD for a bit)

  10. I wouldn't be so quick to be in despair about losing to the Pats.  It's a bad loss for sure.  The Bills are suffering some serious losses due to injury.  The Bills are good enough to over come that, but you've got to willing to give the replacements some time to get in where they fit in.

As long as Josh Allen is upright, the Bills remain a potent threat.  When the injuries come like this, the goal becomes to just make the playoffs and see if you cant things right at the right time....plus, you have Allen!

  11. I'd like to chime in.

Defenses started playing Mahomes...AND ALLEN with alot more shell cover 2.  The pct of that d being played has gone WAY up in the last 2 seasons.

    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/defenses-are-slowing-down-great-passing-attacks-your-move-chiefs-and-bills/

The Chiefs adjusted to it by taking what the D gives.  Mahomes YPA, AYPA all that, way down, but still was efficient because he and the coaches were able to reign in the idea that the deep shots were there.  They weren't.  The lack of deep passing by KC last year was stunning.  Teams play the Bills this same way and Allen keeps taking deep shots when better options are out there.  Last night was a great example of this.

In fairness I still think he is better than Andrew Wylie who played that spot last year for KC, so they have got experience working round a poor RT. But yea Taylor was brutal last night. He is what he is. A middle of the road RT who the Chiefs overpaid for.

I don't mind the overpay, and I think he'd be about the same player on the left side.  He IS an upgrade.  Mahomes had TONS of time to throw.  The drops were bad and Mahomes clearly isn't quite used to these guys yet....and the drops made it look worse, but I was encouraged by the pass blocking.  It was good.

The Bills still punted 4 times in 9 possessions that game compared to 2 punts in 11 possessions for the Chiefs.  13 seconds was a debacle, but if the Bills had scored on any of those 4 possessions, 13 seconds never happens.

KC had a missed FG and missed XP that game.  .....not that it is important in the crucible of the moment...the circumstances for the Bills were infact, being 13 seconds away from advancing (and in my mind, going on to win the SB) ....but if we are talking about how it might have been....KC's poor special teams play during the early parts of the game made it come down to needing an improbably FG as it were.

  16. I'll chime in.  (as if you want my opinion on this)

    1.  I like Josh Allen.  He's on of my favorite players to watch.  I don't hate the Bills and kind of have adopted them as my 2nd team.

    2.  I've many posts and the other Josh Allen lazy thread and I've seen Whitlocks comments.  I also read somewhere around here that Josh himself has said he's not a big film guy?  I don't know if that is a real quote or not, but..........

Let's assume Josh isn't a big film guy.  He's also not married.  He turned down Netflix to be on their QB docuseries.

Could it be possible Josh turned that down because, having seen Mahomes on that thing completely dedicated to the QB craft...he might look bad?  Or look less dedicated?  I would imagine a young single rich dude like him, might not want to spend so much time studying...and maybe spend more time enjoy life, chasing tang and all that.

This isn't to say Josh is wrong or bad or lacking.  Dak, Burrow, Herbert....all young, single, rich, high end QB types turned it down too.  Maybe it's normal not to spend a ton of time on film....or maybe it's typical of young rich athletes who are pretty successful without the film study....to spend their time enjoying life some.
