Awesome thank you!  This is exactly what I was looking for.  Of course after doing some of my own research I am seeing each museum should take a couple hours each(which is a good thing because that tells me they are both worth doing) I agree might not have as much time for other stuff as I originally thought.  How far away is the Chautauqua Institution and Andriaccio's from the Museums?  We were thinking about doing lunch in between each Museum to break it up a bit

Chautauqua Institute is 20+ miles west of Jamestown via either NY 394 or I-86 and will take you at least a half hour each way, so it might not be feasible.

Lisciandro's Restaurant at 207 North Main is open for lunch on Saturday until 1 pm.   It's a downtown institution.

La Cucina della Nonna at 718 West Third Street is just across the Third Street Bridge from downtown.  Excellent pizza and Italian cuisine.

The Labyrinth Press at 12 East Fourth Street is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant with a good reputation.

El Jarocho at 323 Washington Street is a Mexican restaurant.

If you're looking for chains, there's a Bob Evans located on North Main (Route 60) and I-86.  Most of the other chains are located along NY 394 (Fairmount Ave) in Lakewood, including Applebee's, Olive Garden, Buddy Brewster's Ale House, and Red LobsterSakura Buffet and Five Guys are located in the Chautauqua Mall.  Local restaurants in the same area of 394 include economical choices Davidson's, Honest John's (pizza and wings), Johnny's Lunch (hotdogs), and La Cocina which is a Mexican restaurant.

You inadvertently attributed the quote above to me instead of Araiza Curse.   I also responded negatively to his BS love affair with Toney.

  3. Both museums are well worth visiting, and will probably take several hours each, so if this is a day trip, you probably won't have time to do much more than lunch and/or dinner.  Your mom should love the Lucy museum, and the Comedy Center is a wonderful interactive museum.

Lucille Ball is buried in Lakeview Cemetery which is at North Main Street (RTE 60) and Buffalo Street.  The main entrance is on Buffalo Street at Lakeview Avenue.  The route to the grave site is marked by arrows (blue I think) on small black/dark gray rectangular blocks.

The Jackson Center is just outside the downtown area.  I don't know if it's open on weekends.  It's a small museum with meeting/exhibit spaces dedicated to the memory of Henry H Jackson, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the chief judge at the Nuremburg war crimes trials after WW II.

The Fenton Museum is a 19th century Victorian mansion just south of downtown that once belonged to New York governor Reuben Fenton which features the history of Chautauqua County.

Further afield, while the Chautauqua Institute's season is over, you can still wander the beautiful grounds, browse in the Bookstore, eat at the Brickwalk Cafe or splurge with a stay at the historic Athenaeum Hotel.

Next weekend (Sept 15-18) should be the last weekend for the Bemus Point-Stowe Ferry, weather permitting.  It's an old steam ferry which was the only way to cross Chautauqua Lake before the I-86 bridge was built back in the early 1980s.  There has been a ferry between Bemus Point and Stowe for over 200 years!

Unfortunately, the Busti Grist Mill, built in 1839, will not be open next weekend.  It will be open for the Busti Apple Festival the next weekend, however.  They will probably have it grinding wheat into flour or corn into meal for the Festival.

    Dining ideas ...

Andriaccio's is a well-known Italian restuarant close to Chautauqua Institution.

On a nice day, you can have lunch on the lakeside deck at the Bemus Point Casino.   Beware the seagulls, and don't feed them until everyone in your party is done eating!

Ellicottville Brewing on Chautauqua in Bemus Point and Southern Tier Brewery in Lakewood offer spirits and food.  Southern Tier also offers live music.

Shawbucks is a bar/restaurant across the street from the NCC which offers dinners as well as pub grub (quite good) as well as live music later in the evening.

That’s a shame too, because if he had hands like Kincaid, he’d be really good.

Is Toney your brother from another mother?   If Toney had  hands like Kincaid, he wouldn't have been playing last night because he'd have still been a member of the Giants.  Teams don't trade away a first round pick early in his sophomore season unless they're cutting their losses on a player they believe is a bust.

They could start 2-4 and still get the one seed.

I agree.  The AFCE and AFCN are likely to be dog fights with the teams in those divisions taking turns beating each other up.  The Jags might have the easiest route to division champion but it might struggle with non-divisional opponents.  I think they play both the Bills and the Bengals.   KC doesn't have that much competition in the AFCW except for the Chargers (who always seem to find ways to Charger) unless Payton can resurrect the Broncos.

They were technically the 2 seed one year but the titans lost their first game after the bye so kc grabbed the home field advantage back… I don’t think they’ve had a single road playoff game in mahomes’ career

That's correct.  Mahomes has never played a playoff game outside of Arrowhead except for Super Bowls.

    Kelce makes everything else work.

None of their WR’s are focal points, but they don’t have to be … just need to be planets that orbit around Kelce and it should be fine.

This is exactly why I'm reserving judgement on the Chiefs' offense until Kelce's back on the field.  His presence changes everything ... including how much teams are willing to commit to playing tight coverage on mediocre WRs.  Also, Hutchison is a beast who really abused Taylor at RT.  Other teams may not have an edge rusher capable of doing that.  Finally, Week 1 games are notorious for being false indicators of how good or bad a team will be for the season.   There are examples every opening weekend of unexpected winners that never seem to play as well again the rest of the season and supposed playoff teams that get tripped up Game 1 but then return to form.

I just don't see jet skis being in the same danger category.   Where I live, near Chautauqua Lake, jet skis are everywhere.   Several of my friends have or had jet skis.   I've ridden them.   I've also ridden horses, and horses are a lot more dangerous.

Are you the one who was outed as a Miami fan? https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/topic/240015-tua-impressing-in-miami/

    Yes, he/she/it is.

I'm a GMFB fan, and yesterday they made their predictions.   All of them had the Bills in the playoffs.  Jason and Peter picked the Jets to win the division while Jamie and Kyle had the Bills taking the division.   They picked either the Chiefs or Bengals to go to the SB.  None picked Miami

The analyst who now does the power rankings for NFLN ranked the Bills #5 early in the preseason and #3 most recently.

IIRC, the Vegas oddsmakers still make the Bills the favorite to win the division.   Not all "experts" think the Bills are also-rans.

Here in Cleveland they have all the ESPN channels blocked out. It is Disney not Spectrum that is blocking the signal.

Is that just Buffalo or across the whole country?

Yes.  If you can watch your ABC station via Spectrum today, you can watch the game on Monday on Spectrum.   Your local ABC affiliate isn't owned by Disney.

What struck me was the team speed and how fast they get the ball out.   Sanders has surrounded himself with very good coaches and team talent.

Success as a college HC is all about recruiting -- players and assistant coaches.   Sanders has a big edge in recruiting over many first year collegiate HCs not only because of his NFL fame because he can point to the success he had as an HBCU coach.

  12. There's another thread on this topic.  If you are a Spectrum customer and can get programming on ABC, you should be able to see the Bills on MNF since the game is being broadcast on both ESPN and ABC.  If ABC is blacked out, then your ABC station is owned by Disney, so you will have to find a work around to see the game.   The other thread has lots of suggestions.

Pickett started poorly as a rookie but showed considerable progress late in the season.  He has looked good in his limited play in preseason (and not just against the Bills).   He doesn't have to be Josh Allen to be a good/excellent NFL QB for Mike Tomlin's Steelers.

    Really?
Seems like an iffy situation there too.
If Tua’s brain can stay unscrambled.
If Mac Jones has made serious strides.
If a 40 y/o Rodgers can stay clean behind that line.

These divisions are going to cannibalize themselves to a large degree. The big factor for me is the AFCN plays the NFCW and AFCS, which looks softer than the AFCE’s slate of NFCE and AFCW

This is my take as well, especially the AFCN.  I think that the Ravens and Steelers are closer to the Bengals than the Jets and Fins are to the Bills, particularly because of Harbaugh and Tomlin.  If Watson resurrects his early form, Cleveland can become a formidable force in the league, capable of beating any team because their D is damn good.   NE doesn't have nearly the talent that the Brown have.

    NE isn't in the picture.

Everyone on the planet would put up Allen, Tua and Rodgers against Mahomes Watson and Pickett.

    come on...

The Patriots are always "in the picture" with Belichick as HC, especially in divisional games.

  14. It's entirely too early to decide this question, so I didn't vote.  Both could be successful, both could fail, one could fail and one succeed.   If Watson recovers his early form, Cleveland will win a lot of games and most Browns fans will be forgive him for his past bad behavior.  If Wilson resurrects his career, all will be forgiven in Denver, too.  If one or both fail, my guess is that some heads will roll in the organization(s).

The "battle of Lake Erie" with any two of the three teams from cities on the lake would also be a contest between two teams that have never won a Super Bowl.   A Browns-Lions Super Bowl would be a match between two teams that have never been to a Super Bowl before.

Marino is a good cautionary tale.  Those teams were always poorly constructed - they put more emphasis on weapons for the great QB, instead of building the trenches and shoring up the D.

And I agree - he was the best, imo.  Football is the ultimate team game - SB wins aren't really much of a measure, as logical as that seems to be. Most fans go by that, but so many things go into winning a

Exactly!   For the record, three backup QBs led their teams to SB victories: Earl Morrall (Baltimore Colts, SB V), Jeff Hostetler (SB XXV), and Nick Foles (SB LII).  There have also been several QBs who'd best be described as "journeymen" or "average" who took their teams to SB wins, including Mark Rypien( SB XXVI) and Trent Dilfer (SB XXXV).

I understand various entities other than Disney owning local ABC affiliates stations, but Disney owns ABC and the programming it produces itself. If the various entities that own the various affiliate stations are looked at as pipes, then the Disney/ABC produced programming is one of the products flowing thru them and from what I’ve gathered, Disney has turned off the ABC spigot to Spectrum. The individual affiliate stations that have individual broadcasting deals with Spectrum can show all the non Disney/ABC programming they want, but they can’t force Disney/ABC to also include their programming in their deal with Spectrum.

The ABC affiliate for Buffalo (WKBW channel 7) is still available to Spectrum subscribers (me).   I think this is because Spectrum picks up the ABC feed via WKBW rather than directly from Disney.   Unless your local ABC station is owned by Disney, you should be able to get the Bills game next Monday even if the dispute isn't settled.

Wilson:   Jets.    I wasn't sure Aaron Rodgers would be a good fit in New York, but he appears as happy as ever, his teammates speaking

glowingly of his leadership, and he's still one of the best QBs on the planet. And the Jets also have that dominant defense.

How, exactly, is Rodgers "a good fit in New York"?   Aside from doing celebrity things around town to dazzle the media, Rodgers has done nothing to fit in with the Jests.   The team has done more back flips to accommodate Rodgers than a gymnast prepping for the Olympics, including hiring his favorite former OC as their new OC and adding several Rodgers' pals to the roster.   The NY media and Jests fans are smitten with visions of Lombardis dancing in their heads because Rodgers deigned to appear in a preseason game for the first time in five years and looked "good" against the Giants' 2nd stringers.

We'll see just how good a "fit" for New York Rodgers really is when reality shows up beginning September 11.

Just because you add a former MVP quarterback does not mean you’re a lock for success year one or that they’ll continue playing at an mvp level. Ask Russ last season.

Rodgers and the Jets seems much more like Russ and the Broncos than Stafford and the Rams or Brady and the Bucs.   Both the Rams and the Bucs were solid offensive teams with good OLs when they added their new QBs.   Even Brady didn't receive the royal treatment afforded to Wilson and Rodgers by their new teams and the local media when he arrived in town.
