Butch Byrd had 40 Interceptions in only 123 games played returning 5 for TDs. He was a huge player for the times at the CB position as he was 6'0" and 211 lbs.
He was also the Bills primary punt returner for 3 seasons. He made 5 Pro Bowl games and was First team All Pro for 3 of his 7 seasons in BUF. Robert James was also tremendous but had an injury shortened career. So my pick is Byrd.

The CBs on the roster currently comprise 1 4th round pick (Taron Johnson), 1 6th round pick (Benford), 1 7th round pick (Dane Jackson) and two undrafted guys (Cam Lewis and Jamarcus Ingram). They currently have NOBODY who could be a credible season opening starter.
Do you not think Benford is a quality NFL starter?
And just for a point of reference, in 1964, the AFL champion Bills drafted Butch Byrd in Round 4 and started him at CB where he made 2nd team All AFL as a rookie alongside Booker Edgerson who was an UFA signee in 1962. Edgerson made the AFL All Star team in 1965. Pedigree does not assure performance as Elam pick proved.

Blasphemy. How dare he choose Moorman's number?
i wonder what the total number of jersey sales for all punters in the NFL all time would be?
< 1000 total?
And Moorman was probably 1/2 that number!

What’s with all these injury plagued players. It’s like Beane is trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Pretty weird since this has been the Bills number 1 problem for the past 5 years.
in 2017 I had no idea who Jordan Poyer was and only a fleeting glimpse of Micah Hyde from some GB games. Poyer was on IR in CLE for a lacerated kidney and look what he turned into. It would also be a pretty safe guess that McD and Beane spoke with Rivera on Forrest prior to signing him as that was when this kid played well.

Some thoughts from this scouting profile: https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Darrick-Forrest-S-Cincinnati
Seems to have played FS in 2022 with WAS but draft profile reads as if best suited for Taron Johnson or Cam Lewis type role.
If Bills go with Bishop and Rapp maybe this is the new Nickel S (formerly Lewis) or they drop one of Rapp/Bishop down and let Forrest play deep S.

Here he is mic'd up vs AZ last year.

Those career best stats are interesting
maybe just a coincidence it was with revamped Eagles secondary (added Mitchell and DeJean) and behind that D Line. Nowhere near that talent level in BUF right now.

The 1980 team.
A bit before my time but they beat a tough Jets team in the road in the first round. Then I know someone dropped an INT that woulda beaten the Chargers in the next round.
That Bills team that year beat the Raiders in the regular season that went on to win the Super Bowl
Sorry but wrong sequence. Bills beat Jets in WC in Shea in 1980 playoffs then lost to Bengals on the road in divisional round.
The Bills lost in divisional round to Chargers in 1981 playoffs.

Forgive the offseason post, but this thought crossed my mind last night, so flame appropriately.
It's hard for me to argue that Josh has been let down by the defense in key games, especially the playoffs. You could also say that the Bills were outcoached in most of their playoff losses. Add in being in the same conference as the Ravens, Bengals, Chiefs, and other improving AFC teams, it's not going to get any easier soon.
With being from the west coast and being engaged to a movie star, is it crazy to think it might make more sense for him to want to play out his contract and join a team like the Rams? He would immediately become the NFL king of LA, have an offensive minded coach, and be closer to home. I think his chances to get a ring would greatly improve, and he'd get to play in a dome where he excels.
To be clear, I don't want any of this to happen. But if it did, I don't think I could really blame him. Yes, the Bills took a chance on him, but he was still a top 10 pick and has paid the team and city back well beyond that. I would hate it, but I would still support him.
LOL, you came off of sabbatical for this???!!!
Any psychiatrists on here who could recommend a good drug to treat passive/aggressiveness?
Never had @Virgil figured for a pot stirrer.

1 game above .5001. @The 9 IslesWould hope the OP would correct the erroneous claim ion the title of this thread. Bills are 14th in the league in this scenario, not 8th as the AFC is on the left and NFC on the right.
2. This only shows 1975 through thi past season. Since their inception, the Bills are 20th in all time winning percentage at .490. Of the original AFL teams , only the Jets and Oilers/Titans have a worse all time winning percentage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_all-time_NFL_win–loss_records
3. The cancellation of the CIN / BUF game when Damar Hamlin was resuscitated is why the Bills have only 999 games played while the other 7 original AFL franchises (Pats, Jets, Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos, Oilers/Titans, Chargers) all have played 1000 games.
4. Bills 1st game in 2025 season will be their 1000th regular season game!

Was a smart, well respected man but not the best coach Bills ever had. How many NFL teams can claim both a Yale (Jauron) and Harvard (Marv levy Mastered in English) grad as head coaches?

Erggghhh...Vrabel was playing for the Steelers in 1999, not coaching the Titans.

A consolation prize that is coinicidentally a Raider (like Crosby) and UB grad (like Mack - who btw was also a Raider)!
FA
EDGE Malcolm Koonce
Malcolm Koonce
LV • DE • #51
Koonce has to be one of the more fascinating players available this offseason, and there's no guarantee the Raiders allow him to walk. The former third-round pick out of Buffalo was expected to explode in 2024, but suffered a season-ending knee injury right before the season opener. Now, he will be able to test the market. In 2023, Koonce recorded a career-high eight sacks, and six came in the final four games of the season. He recorded three sacks of Mahomes in that Christmas Day upset, which is still the last time Kansas City lost at home.

Whatever people think about Doug Pederson, he has been around Reid and Spags for a very long time. He gives you a guy who has won Super Bowls, and has deep, deep knowledge of Andy’s offense.
He could serve a multitude of roles, not only could he be a sounding board for Joe Brady and Josh Allen, he could be even more useful to Bobby Babich by working with him on ways Reid will attack his scheme. He could help identify the shortfalls we have and help the defense get prepared for their arch nemesis.
Pederson is not going to get a HC job in this cycle, and if there is anyone who really truly knows how Reid thinks, it’s him. Going all the way back to his days in Green Bay as Brett Farve’s backup, as well as coaching under him in various places, Doug may be able to get us over the hump.
I understand that this brain trust isn’t going anywhere, so I am trying to think of ways we can improve this year on the coaching side, bringing in a hired gun like Pederson is something I hope the Bills consider. It also helps Doug rebuild his reputation after being so terrible in Jacksonville. He is said to be a pretty loyal guy, so is he willing to help McDermott and company overcome his mentor in Reid? Only time will tell.
yeah Bills should hire a HC who went 0-4 in regular season and 0-1 in playoffs vs KC as Eagles and Jags HC. Makes sense to me!

This guy is going to be a monster next year. McDermott has an entire offseason to figure out how to get him on the field.
Why not try Taron Johnson at safety next season? He seems like the perfect option. He’s getting older.
That is a great tackle. I was also taken back by how Dorian was first Bill to get to PR, albeit he dove and missed tackle, and how he then got up and ran back 45 yards to make the TD saving tackle. HUSTLE!

Carter had lingering issues with his wrist and regularly appeared on late season injury reports. He had wrist surgery late OCT and struggled upon his return.

My son was screaming at the TV to put Ingram in every time Elam was on the end of a bad play. How much worse could he possibly have been?? Thought he’s played pretty well.
Ingram played as the 6th DB or 3rd safety in Bills D this year. He replaced Cam Lewis in that role when Lewis was hurt or playing S. Ingram is more of a slot CB or S. Not sure they played him outside even unless in mop up part of games

We consistently had one of the best pass defenses in the league when he was here.
Yes, maybe in total yards surrendered because BUF was easy to run on. Real NFL QBs feasted on the Bills pass D since McD has been here. The Bills pass D under McD historically only confounds mediocre or young QBs.
