But why would you question if they are actual victims?  It sounds like you are unwilling to give them the benefit of the doubt. I just don’t get why people are so worked up about the women waiting so long. A lot has changed in society in 30 years.

Not to get too wonky but in this country it’s the accused, not the accuser, that gets the benefit of the doubt. Our entire system of justice is based on it.

James Cook has Dalvin whispering in his ear and that’s probably a problem. Dalvin wasted his best years in the Arctic and doesn’t want his kid brother spending his whole career just below the treeline. My bet, Cook is a Falcon, Jaguar, Buccaneer, Dolphin, Texan, Ram or Charger within 2 full seasons.

THIS! I don’t think it can be overstated how much Dalvin is influencing his brother’s approach.

I haven't read the full thread so perhaps you've already answered this, but is the sheer mass of overruns in this project unusual?

I understand overruns are normal, but this seems to be a drastically high number of overrun.

If I was Terry i'd be pissed at whoever estimated the original cost.

Every project is different and I have no idea how far along the design was when the construction team signed a contract for the initial cost. There are three categories of cost overruns.

The first category is Owner directed changes. Based solely on the glaring lack of renderings it’s more than likely that the INTERIORS of the stadium (concourse, clubs, restaurants) were barely developed at that time but the schedule was such that they needed to break ground in order to meet a Fall 2026 opening. That doesn’t mean that anyone screwed up. I guarantee the Team all knew that much was left to develop but they collectively decided to get started …especially with the hyper-inflationary environment of the last few years.

The second category of large cost overruns is what’s known as unforeseen conditions. That’s where the soil is really bad, or the utilities you’re connecting to are falling apart.

The final category is outside agency requirements. That’s when the local government swoops in after construction has started and says ‘ya know, we want you to pave the roads for five miles around the site’, or the power company demands that all of their lines be buried or upgraded.

In any case, rest assured that there’s a second pair of eyes looking at all cost proposals. The Contractors cannot charge whatever they want.

I hope that answers your question.

What’s the point? Isn’t 850million enough taxpayer funding with another huge amount in loans to the Bills. My point was about not having a retractable dome where fans and corporate donors were not given input. Do you prefer an open air stadium for almost 21/2 billion. Cleveland on the other side of the Lake is opting in favor of a retractable dome, why not us?

Again….now what? So now you think someone is over charging for the construction? Then your REAL complaint should be with Turner Construction….no?

You are asking “why wait” as though there are no plausible reasons beside trauma.  I’m not saying this is what happened, but it’s what could have happened…

Maybe now our culture is full of people predisposed to believe any accusation regardless of the absence of any evidence.  And they will shout down and shame anyone who even questions their claims.  So the climate is much more conducive to making that claim now.

This thread is full of people saying the same things now about people questioning the claims of Wiley’s accuser that they did about people question Matt Araiza’s accuser.

Now we KNOW that she wasn’t telling the truth, but if Araiza hadn’t stopped at an ATM that night he could be in jail.

It is frustrating because there is no humility or introspection about past rushes to judgement, just more of the same preaching against apostates who even dare to raise questions about these new claims.

You got me there. I have absolutely no idea where you went there.

Well then, I feel that some offenses are so heinous that they deserve justice, if only 15 minutes of public scorn. We can just disagree.

Where did you stand on the whole Bill Cosby thing? Was that water under the bridge too?

    .

My opinion is pretty much the same. Why wait thirty years to accuse anyone? No matter who it is.

Taxpayers are responsible for 850 million and the Bills were originally responsible for 600 million before the overruns.

And now the Bills portion has grown significantly. Sounds to me like the County/State wrote a very, very good contract. There are many such deals in which the savings or overages are split between the two partners.

The steepness of the upper deck in this new stadium is worrisome for me.  When in London for the Jags game and in the stadium ours is being modeled after, the upper decks were super steep.  I worry about older and drunk people navigating them.  Yes, the upper deck is closer to the field than before, but to compensate for that and get as many seats in, they are at a much steeper angle.

When you see the stadium seating charts from the side view, that also shows canopy coverings, you can see it there too.

I'm also surprised to see PSL's in the upper deck starting at $2,500 on the visitor side.

Virgil, it’s a necessity of the design. If you’ve ever been to the Rose Bowl you’d experience the exact opposite. That single deck huge bowl is built right into the ground so by definition it’s very shallow. In fact, when you’re there it’s hard to imagine it seats 100,000. But the new Bills stadium is the exact opposite. It is virtually all above grade. It’s essentially a large steel framed donut-shape building with seats on the inner side. The only way to do it, without having larger than necessary enclosed concourses is to go vertical. It’s just geometry.

Then why wait? You don’t have to wait 30 years to file a civil lawsuit.  He got paid in 1997. They could have had their money a long time ago. Could it be that they were truly traumatized? Could it be that they needed time to heal and grow strong enough to talk about it?

Then why file a lawsuit? Why not just resign yourself to the fact that something happened? Nobody is going to convince me that bringing a lawsuit THIRTY years after you allege something happened to you is OK. It’s ridiculous!

  9. 30 minutes ago, HamptonBillsfan said:

Ask Google or any search engine who’s financing the Stadium. Pegulas not paying for it. It’s 850 million taxpayers, 700 million between state and county. It’s already 200 million over appropriation projections. Hard to swallow huh.

Huh? Pegula is paying for everything that isn’t paid for by the state/county. Now, it’s your expectation that he NOT get his money back on ticket sales? Really? Interesting.

I’m sorry if that sounded like I was accusing you personally. It just seems there’s a lot of gold digger talk. If they are really after his money, why didn’t they go after him when he got the big contract in 1997. You’re the one who brought up waiting 30 years until someone came into money. That’s not what happened here. The laws are as they are for a reason. The problem, of course, is proving anything after all that time.

    .

Could it be because a civil suit is all about collecting money? Just sayin!

  11. 1 hour ago, Augie said:

He came into money about 28 years ago. Maybe, just maybe, this isn’t just about money. I know people who have had traumas follow them. It’s not simple, and it wasn’t about money. Why is there an immediate assumption that they are gold diggers?

Augie….I didn’t say that’s what it’s about. I simply posed the scenario as a hypothetical that I figured people could relate to.

of course there are statutes of limitation to charge a crime.  but not for all crimes.

this is a civil suit anyway...

So someone can wait just to see if someone they met a long time ago comes into money and then bring a suit alleging that something happened THREE DECADES ago. Wonderful.

I have Grant below Graham, Nolen and Harmon. He is DT4 for me. But agree if you want a high end 1T he is the best pure 1T in the class. I think Harmon can play both, Graham and Nolen are 3Ts only.

So you grab Grant, even if you have to move up a couple of spots to do it, and then go CB in Round 2. If so, who’s the best Corner (that fits McDs scheme) where we pick?

I think it is extremely obvious why women don't immediately report sexual assaults and it is idiotic to assume innocence or guilt based solely on how long they waited to report.

Where did I say he was innocent or guilty? But, there should indeed be a statute of limitations on when you accuse someone of a crime. I’m going to guess the accusers haven’t been trapped on a deserted island or in a coma. And it definitely isn't inherently ‘obvious’ why someone would wait THIRTY years to report an assault.

The first game of the Toronto series was a pre-season game against the Steelers. Driving in, you could see the roof was open before the game, because it was a great summer afternoon, sunny and warm.  At some point before the game started it was decided to close the roof.  Not sure why, because there was no weather issues, like rain, coming in.

I’m curious Jack, have you been to Minnesota or Los Angeles? Neither is anything like the domes of the past.

7 pages in and I'm shocked it seems like I'm the only one who remembers this was rumored all the way back when he was drafted. IIRC, he left Columbia and went to a CC in Los Angeles for a year, which seemed an extremely odd thing to do for someone who got into an Ivy. The implication was that Columbia told him to leave to let things cool off, and then took him back. I have a vague recollection that this rumor was pervasive enough that Wiley addressed it at some point when he was playing for the Bills. I would not swear by that, but I absolutely remember that this was talked about either on this board or somewhere else I interacted with Bills fans in the mid 90s.

Anyway, I only bring this up because I think the idea that this was pulled out of nowhere by his accusers after 30 years isn't entirely accurate. I believe he deserves due process and a presumption of innocence, but I think something that may wind up happening is these women will have people they were close to testify that they were told *when it happened*. That is likely to be the secondary evidence. And it also isn't much of a stretch of the imagination to think that one of these confidants talking about it is how it wound up being discussed by Bills fans 30 years ago.

Seems to me the issue isn’t whether the accusers have a claim. The issue is where have they been for the last three decades…..no?

People saying if the Bills don’t do anything a CB means they are drafting CB first seem to miss the irony of that statement. The Bills just traded a first round CB and have a top 5 CB starting who they drafted in the 6th. The Bills can find a CB pretty much anywhere in the draft, relax.

I have no idea how you put that logic chain together. CB is a four down starting position in the NFL, and you need TWO of them. We currently have one. You believe we should roll some mid-round rookie out there? Would you say the same for any other four down position either on offense or defense?
