Also no one seems to talk about how Miami's track team folded at the end of the year and in bad weather.   The additions to the roster were also made with late season and playoff time in mind - big physical receivers, and multiple options coming from everywhere so that a single weapon or two can't just be easily neutralized (more easily in bad weather)

For as great Miamis weapons are you take away the fade skinny post and deep over what do they got?  Sure they are a handful but pretty predictable if McDaniel wont commit to the run.

His tested "explosiveness" is good and he does seem to have varied release packages but if you understand it to mean gaining vertical separation by stacking DBs that's not his game.

I do not.  Torque vs horsepower sort of speak.  Those numbers help explain his ability off the line.  Down field going up for passes.  Im arguing his explosiveness will help in the majority of the routes in the short and intermediate.  Something Davis lacked.  Coleman will make his fair share of plays down field but in different ways.  His ability at the line doesn't allow him to stack but should open up he the back shoulder.  Allen mentioned that.  That could develop into an out pitch for the offense.

  3. He isnt in a contrived competition.  Ints in May dont matter.  I would guess he is experimenting with his arm.   Seeing what throws he can and cant get away with.  What windows look open but are not.  What window looks closed but is open.  Now if this is due to unable to read a defense or confused on play concept that to get be taught.  As long as he avoids rubber mats and a medical tents he should be ok.

I believe this ruling will have a profound impact on the NFL Draft. College players will be in a position to select the team they want to play for. The NFL will be challenged to come up with a solution if they want to continue the current draft system.

Its collectively bargained.  Not imposed by controlling party.  There will a college football players playoff union.  Those teams involved in the playoff will have seperate rules than other divisions of football and college athletics.  This will also be the exit for any school not wanting to meet the minimums required in payroll and pay.  Inevitable with the Billions of dollars being made off individuals playing the sport not being able to profit too.

I think "explosion" is not quite the right word but perhaps what @Mat68 was referring to is that Coleman is fluid and efficient when catching the ball and transitioning into moving forward. I've seen Cover 1 breakdowns of this, I believe, and it's similar to Kincaid: as they are preparing to catch, they are pointing their body and almost in the transition of moving forward before or at the time of the catch. Many players don't do this well but Coleman does so he gets more YAC than you would think based on his timed speed.

No I meant to say explosiveness.  10 yard split, vert and broad jump measure explosiveness. Thats why they do those drills.  He is above average in all of those.  He is good off the line.  Thats explosiveness.  High pointing a ball is explosiveness.  His fluidity is what makes me think he can develop his route running.  His current strengths are due to how explosive an athlete he is.  His potential is how fluid he is.

I certainly haven't done the commendable work that others have in breaking down Coleman's college production so all I have by comparison is an impression for all its worth but I see a guy who is fast through his routes, who is big and probably capable of out muscling many nfl DBs, and (this is important) has impressive ball skills. Those are core competencies that have earned some guys golden jackets. If we are talking football I take that and his kind of athleticism over an 11 foot broad jump all day long. No guarantees of course given the enormous step up in competition that all rooks have to negotiate but I think the Bills are right in thinking that he has the makings of a good, possibly very good player at his position. Unlike the Bills I do wonder if he's a true X given the lack of long speed (that's why they signed MVS) but regardless I'm sure Brady has a role for him and the O that he is concocting will not feature a # 1 receiver now anyway that Diggs is gone. Personally I agree with what I expect to be the change in philosophy.
Almost forgot to mention that Coleman is a hoot. Probably a great locker room guy. That too is important.

95% of the passing attack is under 25 yards.  Davis wasnt much faster and made his career down field.  Coleman is a more explosive player than Davis and MVS.  Being productive under 25 yards is what limits both Davis and MVS as players.  Coleman offers more underneath and if he succeeds at it he is a potential #1.

  7. Analytics vs film.  Does Coleman have elite agility for a wr?  No.  Keep in mind those that are elite are 20-30 pds lighter and 4-5 inches shorter.  The real question does Coleman have elite agility for a wr his size?  Yes, he does.  Proof of this is his run after the catch ability and tools shown as a punt returner.  That ability would lend its self favorably to having potential as a route runner.  Time will tell but potential as a number 1 wr he has it as much if not more than the group drafted before him and after.  Pearsall, Worthy, Leggette, and Mckanky all have their own negatives and hurdles to become top targets for their teams.

Honestly, the WR debates remind me a lot of the MLB debates from last off season. You both hit the nail on the head, I think, when you say they like what they have for now. There are questions from the outside for sure. But I have to believe from what I've seen them do in the past that they aren't just throwing 💩 at the wall hoping it sticks. There is a plan and I'm sure the plan is based around what Joe Brady believes he can get from this group. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it shakes out. I do think at least one or two of these cast of WRs steps up.

Kincaid will get close to 120 targets. Cook will get close to 75.  I think they are the actual drivers of the offense.  Much less Wr centric than years past.  People were looking for Edmunds replacement.  Benard didn't fit that mold.  Coleman, Shakir, Samuel 1 for 1 are not Diggs.  In the roles designed, the offense may be more effective without a player being as prolific.

If this is sort of an "excused absence" then I don't really see anything big about it. It is voluntary. Still, you would think that someone going to a new team, and has this "stigma" around them as to being a head case and a potential problem, would want to put their best foot forward. That he would also want to get in as much work around and with his new teammates as possible. Apparently not. It could be something, or it could be nothing.

If MVS, Claypool, Coleman, or Samuel wasn't in Buffalo would that be an issue?  It’s strange and the type of thing I think he likes.  Its a modern day publicity stunt.  Get online engagement and be able to market himself for sponsor deals.

I think if anything we see a FA move next year if needed at WR. I don't see them taking a pass catcher with their first overall pick for a third straight year. Especially if Coleman has a season that is comparable to Kincaid's rookie year last season. I think as long as Coleman shows progress they "embrace the growth mindset".

Now, if things start slowly and Coleman has little to no impact early or there are injuries..I CAN see Beane spending one of those 2nd rounders on a WR near the trade deadline...but that's another conversation for another day lol.

Maybe mid season like the Douglas trade.  I think for the most part they like Shakir, Samuel and Coleman enough as a core to roll with it.  The other wrs in the room are role players.

It's an estimated score because he did not complete all of the drills

Yet , his RAS, relative athletic score... Is over 8.1 which shows the type of athlete he is at his size

Correct the size and athleticism is what makes him unique.  Not many football players play 2 sports in college or get recruited to play both at a power 5 school.  Has the tools and is being dropped into an elite passing game with an elite qb with 200 targets up for grab.  He will have a very impactful season.

  12. Call me crazy but I think Coleman can develop into a plus route runner. He does that he will be a very good wr.  Coleman has the opportunity cost.  200 plus targets are out of the offense.  The level of investment into the prospect is there too.  Colemans ceiling is rookie of the year and beyond.

  13. Having an offense with a big X in mind will help Claypool make the roster.  Playing as a large outside receiver with Pittsburgh he was productive.  Of all the guys to win the day Im surprised it was Claypool.  I expected it to happen in TC when fans see his size and speed.

Marrone and that Defense in 2014 definitely make the playoffs, maybe even the Super Bowl, with Josh.

Marrone didnt want to develop a QB... from one of the worst QB classes of all time in 2013.

I think given a talent like Josh, who was a top 10 pick in one of the more hyped classes, Doug would have coached him.

EJ was a bust.  He got worst as his career went on.  Allen got better.  That wasnt coaching.  Ej fell apart.

Early today on The Herd Cowherd’s sidekick Jason McIntyre (IIRC he’s a big Jets fan) was bashing Bflo’s 2024 outlook and specifically Poyer’s Josh comments and adding that Buffalo lost a lot of very good players and saying ‘is there a worse wr corp in the league?’ Plus mocking MVS and Claypool specifically.

So Cowherd said “what’s he (Poyer) supposed to say?”

He also brought up weapons Kincaid and Knox.

And, ‘how do you know they didn’t replace (our cuts) them with great players in the draft?’

He kept saying to McIntyre “Buffalo is going to be fine.”

Vegas has been more optimistic about Allen and the team since 2020 than the majority of the fan base.  The best qb in the AFC east is Allen by a wide margin.

    Factually not "techically".

I am correct that the Bills completed less than 1/3 of the 20+ air yards throws they attempted in the 2023 season (which is about 10th best in the NFL).

Therefore making it a play call with a statistically low probability of succeeding to begin with.

Yet I have been told in no uncertain terms by @Alphadawg7 (among others) that they apparently complete that throw 100% of the time....if not for.........pressure???

Because who would EVER have expected to see pressure on an obvious passing down?

The arguments that people try to make to excuse the stupidity of that play call are absurd.

I understand why though..........because to criticize the play is to also criticize Josh Allen for running it and also dirting the throw in the end zone when he had a safer throw underneath and plenty of time to work with.   And ultimately,  some fans won't attribute even a fraction of a percent of the blame for the team not winning a game on Allen.

The reason Allen is better than Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick and any qb in Buffalo Bills history is he will take that throw and chance.  Team was still in FG range.  Still had 3rd down.  If your franchise Qb passes up that throw you dont have a franchise Qb.  Future hall of famer made a play knocked Dawkins back into him.  Identical throw he made multiple times in 21 to Davis down the stretch.  They knew the defense look and coverage and threw it to the open guy.  Why are we still talking about it.  KC had one of the best defenses in the league and good red zone defense.  Impossible to assume they could just score later.  Such an easy thing to do why didn't they pick up the 3rd down on the next play?

I have to disagree with the bold.  The best recent Bills WR4 was Gabe Davis is 2020 and 2021.  I don't think there is any production statistic one can point to to say that MVS is better than Davis.  Career wise, Davis has also been more productive in the playoffs than MVS.

To those who say Beane has never given Allen weapons, I would argue that the 2020 and 2021 receiving corps with top tier guys at WR1 (Diggs) and at slot (Beasley), a very good WR4 (Davis), and also a pretty productive gadget guy (McKenzie), were in fact, elite receiver groups.

Davis in 20 and 21 is close to what MVS averaged in 20 and 22.  Davis more tds but both explosive low efficient players.  The 20, 21 Davis is what MVS could offer.

That sound great in defense, but did you actually look at the data as to whether or not that was actually true/factual?

Take a look when you have a few, you'll find that it's the polar opposite of what you just said there in seasons 2020 - 2022.

Game log from each season 23,22,21 are very similar from last week of November to end of season.  Some clunkers some average some monsters.  Each three season. I dont know what you are using or looking at…
