Stefon Diggs was an elite receiver. Whether he still is remains to be seen - that is fair - but he has six consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. Samuel's best year (which in fairness did come in a Joe Brady coordinated offense) was 851 yards. I would say that is super substantively lesser. Whether he is super substantively lesser than Stefon Diggs in 2024 we will see. But the Diggs we saw for at least 3 and a half years of his run in Buffalo? Yea. Samuel is a LOOOONG way short of that. I think Samuel could have a career year though. John Brown when forced into a #1 role by lack of alternatives had a thousand yard season for us. But he still wasn't close to what peak Stef Diggs was.

Gotta look at them targets.  If Diggs has 110 targets is he an elite wr?   I think this year people get that answer.  Samuel has never played in a high powered passing attack.  Samuel’s traits lend very well with Allen.  Last half of the year Shakir had more yards similar number of catches as Diggs on half the targets.  I dont see another player getting over 150 targets in the offense going forward.  I dont see Diggs getting that target share in Houston either.

  2. Coleman is the Wr version of Allen.  People can watch him and get 2 different opinions.  In the fall he was top of the class.  Most had him ranked pre draft 30-40 overall as a prospect.  Buffalo drafted him at 33 pretty much inline with consensus.  Moving forward Buffalo was the best landing spot for a wr.  There is a bunch of targets available and the team feels he will step right in. There are reason to believe his weaknesses can be approved upon.  I think sky is the limit.

Oh God, watching the Zay Jones release article on ESPN makes me sick to my stomach. It's just one long highlight reel for Brian Thomas Jr doing things I never saw once in all the Coleman highlights.

    He wasnt available for Buffalo…

Gunner I like most of what you post.  But don’t sugar coat it.  Diggs was pretty bad the second half of last season.  He could not get open down the field.  He was dropping passes and looked disinterested.

I think he is pretty much done.  A lot of guys have their day.  But he isn’t balling out til he is 35 like a Larry Fitzgerald Jerry Rice or Tony Gonzalez.  He was excellent for awhile, but not nearly in that pantheon.

The Bills did great to dump him on Houston for a 2nd round pick.

The contract situation in Houston tells you all you need to know about how the league sees Diggs.  In stead of giving him more guaranteed money they made it a year rental so he could chase money elsewhere.

  4. The core they had reached its capacity in KC 3 years ago.  Last 2 season the were holding onto to something that wasn't good enough but had no choice due to the covid cap maneuvers.  The old core has been mostly removed.  They have pieces on offense and defense they are building around.  The guys that carried the team down the stretch are still here.  Kincaid, Shakir and Cook are the primary focal points on offense.  Their individual efficiency point to them getting an increased target share.  I think Samuel and Coleman are good compliments to them.

I have never really seen this guy play, so all my knowledge is second and third hand...

Qualifier aside, one talent evaluator (I think it was lance zierlein) said when he saw him at the senior bowl, he reminded him of a "rolling ball of knives" and that stuck out to me, because the last guy I remember hearing that about was...Kyle Williams.

Size, demeanor, playstyle (apparently)...that's who this guy reminds me of. Lets hope that happens.

I think alot of the negativity of the draft are from some getting there information from one source.  You look at 3 different evaluators rankings they are all different.  Some dont see Carter as a top 100 player.  Simms had him as his 3rd DT in the class.  I felt the class was deep in 3 techs.  Where I felt it to be lacking were guys able to play both of Buffalos DT spots.

1T is lacking a long term solution.  The quickest way onto the field is behind Ed.  I think Carter was one of a select few who can do both.  Last year was a dumpster fire Ed and Jones.  Carter is an upgrade their and projects to be the answer at 1 tech long term.

And that’s my point. Why does beane need to say that? If he is BUFFALO. Then there must be some players in draft process that aren’t BUFFALO.

Theres some non football evaluation they do specifically w buffalo fit that influences their picks.

They are giving 20-24 year olds lottery tickets.  What makes them successful NFL players is as much who they are as people.  Im behind him.  Hope he becomes a modern version of Moulds.  Has similar abilities.

It's not the lack of speed in the 40 that is necessarily concerning.  Would you like to see it at least a tenth faster? Yes.  What is concerning, though, is the tape.  Speed aside, the biggest problem he had in college is that he doesn't get consistent separation.  It's great that the next gen stats show that play speed isn't an issue.  It is a relief in a lot of ways.  But, that still doesn't change the game tape where even the receptions he does make, come with a CB all over him.  So, maybe the coaches see something that they can help him with in terms of release, route running, etc. that he wasn't doing in college that will use that actual play speed to his advantage.  If they do, and he works at it and becomes successful with what they are teaching, many of the other skills in a WR are there for sure.  But, unless the coaching staff has an idea of how to fix his separation issues, he is going to have to find ways to win against better competition in the NFL.

My guess is that I think they believe they have a plan for how to incorporate him into this offense and put him in advantageous situations.  I think the offense might look dramatically different than it has the last several years.  Brady has an entire off season to implement his full offense instead of just piecing things in here and there as the weeks went by last year.  I don't know......I am just searching for reasons to believe Coleman will make a major difference for us this year and it's tough when all I have to go by is his college tape and I see him struggling to get open.  But, like I've said all along, even though I am critical of him in a lot of ways, the things he does well, he does EXTREMELY well.  I am going to put my trust into the coaching staff to help him win with scheme here and there and play to his strengths.

You can say the same thing about Harrison jr and Udunze.  Neither ran past guys.  I think Coleman has the traits to develop his route running.  That happens he can have a very good career.  His route running is behind both as it sits.  Coleman was still playing basketball as recent as 2021-2022 basketball season. That lends to why his technique is below that of the top guys in the class.

There seems to be a trend appearing. I think the Bills might care more about how fast you play football  than what your 40 time is. Just a hunch, but there might be something to it.

    .

PFF has been mentioning a new metric that is proprietary called GAS?  A cumulative speed and explosion score taking game GPS scores.  Coleman is high on that list supposably.

Davis is an all around back that walks in for the Murray role and very well become the primary back up too.

  9. I think at the end of day Buffalo did the work on all the wrs.  Met with Franklin pretty much every step of the process.  Buffalo brass and Allen went with Coleman.  You can look at the positive of the pick or the neg that probably comes down to how you fan.  His RAS score is over 9.  Before Travis got hurt he was routinely projected as a top 10 pick.  I think we are at the point to get behind the kid and see if he can meet his potential.   Allen couldnt improve his 58% completion too.

Rappaport said unofficial he ran 4.53 after the combine for scouts. Idk if pro day or private work out.  Beane said their data showed 4.5 not 4.6.  Moulds and Bryant are some positive comps.  Both big wrs with return ability in college.  That is what Buffalo is projecting him to be.

Keon Coleman is a short-burst kind of guy. Fast-twitch. Basketball hops. He is explosive. I think he does possess the ability to get open in the 10-20 yard range. However, on longer developing routes and go routes, defensive backs are going to be able to recover and close ground on him. I get the impression that Florida State didn't really use him well. It seems like often-times, if the first-read wasn't open, the QB would just throw up a prayer in Coleman's direction.

I think he's going to be a fun guy to root for. I hope Brady doesn't just try to line him up outside and run deep routes.

Correct.  If him and Allen can get a feel for the back shoulder lights out imo.

On paper they added a few nice pieces.

The WR, DT, S, RB, and C probably all make the roster.  Two out of 10 picks that will probably start seems a bit underwhelming but there really are only a few starter spots up for grabs. Again this is why so many of usxwanted two WRs.  Not sure Coleman is worthy of starting but they literally have no one else to play his role.

Will be interesting to see if McD plays the rookie safety or plays it safe with the vets on the team. Would be a real shame if he is the 3rd safety all year battling with Cam Lewis for snaps.

Now if the DT and RB get sig reps it will be better. Maybe the late day CB makes it if he proves he can return kicks.

I don't understand why they took two more OL. There is no roster spot for either.

And who can't win a SuperBowl without an undersized STs linebacker??? I kid I kid....

To be fair they didn't pick up a 3rd moving back 3 spots. They just moved up 40 spots or so. They didn't get an extra pick.

Without the move back they don't get the third.

This is not a reload. It's a rebuild,  there's a big difference. And as of right now we have no clue how these guys pan out.  Perpetual optimism and "wait till next year" gets old after watching this movie for 55 years.

They are doing what should have been done after 21 or 22. I think they were too emotional and drained with the Hamlin stuff to make the decision.  Buffalo was old.  All the vets moved were older and the team needed a new approach. The guys that led the way down the stretch and the playoffs are who is being positioned around.  The offensives most efficient and productive players were Kincaid, Shakir and Cook by a significant margin.  The best players on defense last year are still here too.

maybe Bishop ends up being a stud....but Beane said he would have been okay with moving up for him?  FOR A SAFETY?  Why is that position getting premium value over WR?   We could have easily gotten the same level of prospect in Round 4

Maybe.  My point is they had 2 holes.  Position priority aside, Poyer and Hyde were the linch pin in of the defense.  Now gone, Mcdermott wanted some of what he lost.  Will he?  Idk. Buffalo sure feels like he is a valuable player for them.  Godd size and speed.  Mcdermott thinks he has the goods for the spot.  Many here flamed Benard in the 3rd and that has turned out great.

Coleman was their top pick and the guy they take at 28.  Figured out the guys moving up wanted a different player.  Still got their guy and added a 3rd.  I dont understand how they undervalue Wr over safety.  You would need to explain that.  I dont see that being the case.

  14. Coleman and Bishop likely start.  Those where the largest holes on the team in terms of numbers lost and who they lost.  They were diligent looking at each position to find their guy.  Coleman was who they wanted over Worthy, Pearsall, Legette and every wr picked after.  Bishop was who they wanted at safety.  The excitement in the room is evident.  Both plus athletes and 21 years old come September.  Hard to argue with either guy looking at what they were looking for.

Bother Carter and Davis are going to be in the rotation and get meaningful snaps week 1.  Carter could be the future 1tech but will be the immediate back up at 3 tech.  Davis is a short yardage goal line plus back.  He will do that role immediately and probably be the primary back up to Cook week 1 aswell.  That good impact from the 3rd and 4th rounds.

Hard to argue with the draft class as a hole.  Guys clamoring for player x over who was drafted is a product of getting too attached to players you have never met imo.  Needing young depth to push the older depth was accomplished at many levels.  Every player you can see the plan and path to how they make it.  Hard to say for many drafts.

  15. He doest have that extra gear some possess.  For what he loses in linear speed he makes up with in size and movement ability.  His ability with the ball in his hands is that of a smaller Wr.  I think that lends well to developing and polishing his route running ability.  More I look into him I can get behind it.  Instead of harping on why I liked someone else Im looking at why he can be successful.

Pre draft I used his 40 as a reason why you dont take him at 28.  They move to 33 not much difference but adding a 3rd and getting a DT that could become a 1T is big.  Compared to everyone else in the range I can see why Buffalo liked him more.  His age and athleticism are very high.  If developed could be a number 1.  Outside of the top 3 not many in the class have that upside.

You could tell that the Bill's brass changed their thinking in the way they select WRs last year when they picked up Kincaid. He was considered to be the best pass catcher in the draft, even among WRs. Coleman also is a good pass catcher. Not really sure if this works out since he will always be matched up with a CB. Considering he has Josh tossing to him though, his chances increase significantly. As for the meltdowns about his forty time, I'm reserving judgement. Perhaps the coaches have some ideas on how best to utilize his skillset.

I think this was Coleman v Mitchell.  Both young with size similar production.  They went with the human Coleman.  They work hard on both and and like Coleman. He comes off as a star at his presser.  I was not a Coleman.  More I look into it more I like it.

Brady comes from the Payton system.  Made Colston and Thomas into monsters.  I see Coleman doing some of that.  I think his fluidity translates into becoming a polished route runner too.  He does that he could be the total package at wr.

I was willing to be patient after the Diggs trade and gave these guys the benefit of the doubt. I expected us ti move way up and take one of the top guys. I also expected us to trade for Ayuk or Samuel….now we are through that and what we have is nowhere good enough. You can’t go into a season with Allen in his prime and these weapons at WR. It’s inexcusable. This list of WRs is nowhere near comforting but the only was this off-season isn’t a total failure is OBJ or Thomas. None of those other guys are even better than what we already have. I’d still like to explore that 49ers trade but I’m assuming that ship has sailed.

Shakir and Kincaid were the top 2 pass catchers last year down the stretch and playoffs. I think Coleman gives the offense more than Davis.  Samuel a good compliment to what the offense has.  Top 5 targets are going to 1. Kincaid 2. Shakir 3. Coleman 4. Samuel 5. Cook.  You have Knox Hollins and what ever player makes the roster at wr 5 and 6.  Fighting for scraps.   Offense will be fine.  Probably more efficient.

  18. Coleman, Samuel, Shakir are the starters.  Hollins, Shorter and Shavers compete for the outside spots.  Isabella, Hamler and Cepheus compete for the inside spots.  I could see a move in the summer for another if no one steps up.   Not a terrible room when adding in Kincaid and Knox at Te and Cook out of the backfield.
