  1. I use Uber once or twice a week, always good service. I suppose it depends on where you live of course. Mostly for work but the occasional ride somewhere's else... like the dentist tomorrow :-(  Since we lost one car it has been a life saver. What I have found is that the drivers don't know how much you are paying for a ride.

My employ is 6-7 miles away and it costs me around $10.00-$11.50 each way if I use Uber. Was talking with a lady driver around a month ago about the service and told her what I was paying. She said great, no one has ever told me this before, and when she dropped me off at the house she calculated it... she made $6.33 for my fare, and it took her around 15 minutes or so. Now, I make a point of letting the driver know how much I paid.

I think the "report" in the OP is not true... just a bunch of jumbles numbers put together by someone who felt they needed to write something due to their deadline.

Most drivers I've ever had love driving for Uber... and the happiest ones are the ones who keep their rides under 45 miles but higher than say a ride across the street. Those shorties are the ones that they like to avoid.

To hang with people from our era...do you know what is going to happen outside the arena that night? Nothing but cool ****..no fights..etc..70's type crowd.

Who in the hell wants to hang out and listen to a greatest hits list for $200 a pop? I'm going to have to turn you on to a video... not tonight, but when I have more time man... will open your eyes. Good to see you posting for sure...

Seeing the Eagles in concert is like listening to one of their albums... they have that **** so sterile that there is really no difference. Why pay the money? CaliforniaIgotcharitehereforaripoffhotel...

I'll elaborate. All methods I use were taught to me by my record store owner guy down the street.

Take a gallon of DISTILLED water; dump out 1/3 of it.

Put in a capful of the "natural" cleaner....no chemicals, plant-based. I used Murphy's that has citrus as the agent.

Then, fill up the rest of the gallon jug with 91% rubbing alcohol. Shake it up and it's good forever. I dumped out the Murphy's bottle, rinsed it, and put the jug's contents into it.

Spray the record, and use a paint edger to wipe down the grooves.

Put a microfiber cloth on the end of a Shop-Vac hose, and vacuum the record dry.

It makes a difference compared to simply playing them straight from the sleeve.

Interesting, good post. I agree with the process except for the alcohol. The paint edger makes sense as it is pretty much 10,000 tiny fingers... basically like the tool you get with the NG... had to think about that one for a minute lol. Do you use a broken turntable just to have the spin when you clean them? Seems some sort of platter would be needed.

How does O'Regan being a small dude imply blowing it up?  I don't think they are tanking at all.  They are simply not good.  Botterill has a long-term plan that emphasizes careful development.  Of course, you have to have the talent to develop.  GMTM set the rebuild back years by bad drafting, poor decisions, and the lack of a cohesive overall plan.  He apparently wanted to imitate the KIngs when the league was moving towards speed and skill.

Kane was our best chip.  Not sure JB misplayed it.  Seems his value just wasn't that high.  We could use some lottery luck.  Blueline could really use Dahlin.  Otherwise, Svechnikov or Tkachuk.

I put a space inbetween the O'Regan comment and the tank comment to separate them.

Florida is pretty bad, around the beltway in the DC area is pretty bad, Jersey is godawful.  But the worst by far is MA.  Boston in particular.  Holy ****.

In the world?  Worst I've ever seen is Haiti.  I asked the guy driving us (he was born and raised there, moved to the US to go to college and got a job) how the rules of the road worked there and he just said "have a big car."

I can attest to this... I'm in the Tampa area and if some knucklehead screws up on, approaching, or exiting one of the 3 big bridges it will back the interstates up to sometimes 10 miles. Like someone said above... this texting and driving thing has really turned into a big hassle, get off the damn phone and drive.

Well considering my tagline is "I Love Vinyl" I figured I'd jump in!

Got into it back in August. I have the $300 Audio-Technica professional fully manual turntable. Stock currently, minus an upgraded cork mat for the platter.

    Zeppelin 1 through Physical Graffiti

    Pink Floyd Dark Side/WYWH/Meddle/Animals

    Buckingham-Nicks (pre-Fleetwood; amazing album)

A few My Morning Jacket albums

    The entire Hamilton soundtrack.

    A couple Santana's

    Smashing Pumpkins Gish

    Both Fleet Foxes albums

    AC/DC High Voltage

Black Crowes and Chris Robinson Brotherhood records

    And on and on......

I clean them using the distilled water/natural cleaner/alcohol method. Makes a huge difference.

What do you mean by "natural cleaner"? If I were you I'd drop the alcohol, not good for vinyl or needles. I would suggest going to a photo shop/camera store/whatever you have around you, and getting a small bottle of developing fluid. The one around here gives it to me but I always give them a few bucks anyways. What it does is make the cleaning fluid "sheet" more over the vinyl when cleaning. Just a few drops in a 4 ounce container of cleaning fluid.

In summary, for 4 ounces of cleaning fluid I use distilled water, one drop of original Dawn dish soap, and 3-4 drops of developing fluid. Like I said above, I'm using a Nitty Gritty so it might work differently if you are doing it by hand... have no idea how you go about it.

  8. I remember him because we had our house in Lancaster up for sale in 71 or 72 and he came with another player to check it out. Problem was that the door jambs were too low, not for him, but for the other player that was with him... cannot remember That guy's name. Guess the consensus was that if he bought it a lot of big and tall people would be dropping by so it wouldn't work out. Pretty cool to have a couple of Bills come up and ring your door bell... the man died way too early:

John Leypoldt Is Dead at 40; Former Place-Kicker for Bills
    AP
    Published: February 8, 1987

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y., Feb. 7— John Leypoldt, a former place-kicker for the Buffalo Bills, died today of an apparent heart attack. He was 40 years old.

From 1971 to 1976, Leypoldt kicked 74 field goals and 147 extra points, both team records, for the Bills. His 369 points made him the team's second-leading scorer, behind O. J. Simpson and his 420 points.

Leypoldt was released by the Bills midway through the 1976 season and finished out the season with the Seattle Seahawks. He failed in an attempt to make a comeback with Buffalo in 1979. After his retirement, he was involved in real estate in the Buffalo area.

The last time we went to your place (Duff's)..the mediums tasted like our mouths walked into a working furnance. That place is not only priced high but they are also hyped to much..like Anchor.nine-eleven tavern, ottos, bar bill,Danny's etc blow them away..the UB North campus kids keep that Sheridan drive place crankin..the dock road location isn't as crowded as it once was either.....I gotchowingritehea

Hehe... they tell you that medium is hot. Mild is the way to go for me at least. Last time I had them at the Dick road location was when the Bills played the Bengals, at home, and Jimi Hendrix was the QB. No complaints, the wings were excellent... and the chick we had serving us was very cool too.

Have a good sized collection. ~600 records. Was gifted a nice collection of well cared for good quality music recently as well. Will never let them go. I love looking at the covers artwork, they bring back a lot of memories. Have to admit I don't have a decent record player right now and have them put away in cardboard boxes. Glad I saw this post, gonna motivate me to get a player.

600 is a good size... I think I'm down to that from 10K+ when I did it for a living, sold a big chunk in bulk. Ebay used to be great but now it's not even a shadow of what it once was... they went commercial and stopped the money order/check payments and so I left them.

I say 600 or so but these are the babes, no junk in there imo... but, I do have 6 big boxes of "gone through, don't want" that I'd give away to anyone who wants to haul them off.

For anyone serious about vinyl... I bought one close to this one maybe 18 years ago or so. Well worth the money and easy to maintain. Will clean your dirty ass albums like nothing else... I make my own version of the fluid, the basis is  Distilled water... and other minor things. This is a life saver if you are a vinyl fan:

When I was little my friends dad used to bring Canadian bacon back. Just tasted like ham to me. Molson Brador was my favorite food smuggled out of Canada. It was too strong to buy in the states then.

My mom loved Mackintosh toffee. Every trip to Crystal Beach she would bring home bags of it. We would freeze it and then slam it on the counter to break it into little pieces.

Shame that Crystal Beach is now condo's... that was the highlight of summertime in WNY as a kid... parents would always surprise us and boy did that get the blood flowing... the "are we there yet" kind.

  12. Good thread... and I agree with some others, baking is a tough one. In my mind its scientific with the ratio's of yeast, baking powder, what kind of flour to use, how long at what temp, what to add and when to add it, water or soda water, etc. I leave this to others lol.

More of a traditional cook here, I like making breakfast for any meal any time of the day.

As far as my best dish goes it would be roasted leg of lamb with whole garlic inserted with rosemary sprigs over the top and the usual sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper. Baste every half an hour. Side dish with that is mashed rutabaga with chopped bacon and mushroom gravy made with the juices of the roast. I haven't made this one in awhile though as I have less people in the house nowadays.

Have a great wing recipe that I got from an old Buffalo eatery and when I make them I use whole wings, I don't break them up into flats and bats... you do that. Keeps more of the juices inside of the crispy exterior I have found. Use Marie's extra chunky bleu cheese dressing.
