...Fred Goldman says he's VERY credible.....and now back to your topic...I've shared my opinion numerous times entering year 56 of following this club about the RW chronology....he invested $25 grand in 1960 for the fledgling AFL, a big sum then but he was wealthy from trucking and insurance....he loaned 400 grand to the Raiders to keep them afloat and offered a loan to the then Boston Patriots but they declined.....back to back AFL Championships ensued in 1964 & 1965......so as a young 40 something entrepreneur, he sat back and watched his investment grow with zero reinvestment...hence, he EARNED the "cheapskate absentee owner from Detroit" moniker for the 70's and 80's.....and then his interest other than investment grew in the 90's bringing Polian on board.....take it from there.........

I have seen many post this... the Bills were founded/established in  October of 1959, not 1960.

I recently learned about AXS via following Dan Rather on Facebook.

I tuned in last night to watch his interview with Robert Plant.  It was awesome.  That was followed by a Pink Floyd documentary which was also very good.

Looking at their schedule - and talking to friends - I've also learned that they show a lot of concerts/performances by great artists.

I don't know how popular this station is, so I just thought I'd throw it out there - as I know this place is full of fans of great music.

I watched it, excellent interview for sure... skipped the Floyd doc though, had seen it before. Never had this channel until I got Sling a few months ago.

    ? You!!

    ?

Maybe you suck at buying cars, but I don’t.  Helps to have an experienced salesman guide you through the process, so you know approximately how much “wiggle room” the dealer has on the vehicle.  I run this ****!

Helps to have an experienced salesman who you know personally guide you through the process... the stories he's told me about selling cars would shatter your brain. Mainly, there really is no sale going on ever... no matter how many balloons we have out front or how many times you've seen/heard our commercials. Trade ins, for the most part, are treated like auction items... unless it's something that is exceptional and can make it as a resale at the dealership.

For spending so much money on a car we are treated like a cheap whore when it comes down to actually obtaining one... we are better than that people, never buy Brand New.

It's a deal from 2008.  Before any of this stuff was imagined. Before hotspots, 4g, streaming, music, etc.   I got it on my blackberry at the time. It was great!  And I kept the service and all. They call.me every few months trying to talk me in to a new phone for free when I get a new contract.  I refuse. I pay out of pocket full price for an unlocked phone for that reason.

A buddy of mine has that plan, and like you they aren't giving it up for anything... grandfathered in. Think they are running  6 different phones on it... mom, dad, 3 kids, and a fiance'. Dumb question but I really don't know, you can run a smart tv off of your hotspot, correct?

What do cord cutters do for internet?

I assume if I ditched cable, Comcast would just double the bill for internet, and I assume the small providers don’t have nearly as fast connection.

Everyone's situation is different. Here, she Has to have internet and a landline phone (which we've never used, its just the connection that is needed) for her job. She works out of the house for a large worldwide company. Think that bill is $100 a month or so through Verizon or whatever they are called now, Frontier I think... that bill has to be paid regardless. So, by cutting directv and using Sling we are saving $75 a month for more tv than both of us combined would ever watch.

Something I failed to mention earlier is that there are a ton of apps that you can download to your smart tv for free. I watched a pretty cool youtube video on that a month ago or so, I'll post it so it might help some people see the seemingless endless boundaries the new wave has.

If it wasnt for sports i would have ditched cable long ago. How can i watch Sabres games in HD without cable? That's my dilemma

I usually watch them online but to be honest we've sucked so bad this year that its hard to watch, sometimes I just opt for a movie instead. Or both, Sabres game on the laptop and movie on the tv.

I have Sling Blue, 40 or so channels... $28 a month with taxes and fees... and there are usually a couple of hockey games on in the evening. Depending on what Sling package one has, a sports package upgrade is 5-10 dollars more a months so I suppose you might want to look into this. Here is what I have as of now: https://www.sling.com/#dyn-grid-package-tab-2-30m

Sometimes the Sabres are on, sometimes not... and when I say not they are in the grid but it says something like "content may be unavailable in your area" which I don't get, if the Sabres are playing say Nashville why in the world would it say that when I live in Florida?

One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that with Sling, and probably others too, if you are getting 40 channels you are getting 40 channels of watchable tv. No filler crap like HSN, infomercial channels, jewelry channels, etc. It seems like with directv I had 300 channels with maybe 60 of them watchable. Gawd am I glad I ditched them.

  7. Thinking back... someone mentioned to me that Directv owned sling.

I'm aware that those streams exist, but I was under the impression that they're not reliable.

This is an area that I don't want to talk about publicly but they are reliable, especially if you have a few different ones. One thing I will say though, I have watched Bills game live on Youtube of all places.

I can build you a doghouse, patio deck and/or a firepit...but when it comes to electronics, cords, plug ins, power switches..I'm lost.I would need help setting up all of that to the tv's....not to mention..I think my bride signed a new contract or agreed to one over the phone..not sure what that would be?

I'm pretty sure that any smart neighbor, family person over say 15 nowadays could help you with hooking things up. But, there really isn't anything to hook up except the antenna. The rest is just signing into your internet. Sling is easily done over the phone.

Edit: I read this back and I am in no way insinuating that you aren't smart, so my apology if it came off that way. What I meant is that a lot of the younger folks are way above us older guys when it comes to the new technology... I lean on them myself at times.

I was thinking about changing but you can't get Mets games on Sling.p.s.-My bill is 138 with two genie boxes..they gave me the sports channels for free.

They are found on the internet. You should really think about cutting the cord man... we have so many tv options out there now that it is mind boggling. For the most part we still only watch a dozen channels anyways.

I'm ditching DirecTV and Sunday Ticket this year.

Question: how do you watch Bills' games? I'm considering the $100 streaming package, but it's not live - games are available Sundays after 7PM or so. I'd have to stay off the Internet on Sundays until after I watch the game.

    You answered your own question...

I'm wanting to do this...but...did your internet go up after cancelling cable tv?....where are you in Fl?...I'm  in west Ocala..

I'm east of Tampa. Internet bill didn't go up at all. Where you are you might be able to get Tampa, Orlando, and Gainsville tv with an antenna. I get stuff south of here mainly... Sarasota, Bradenton, and the local Tampa stations. Thing is, now there are like 3-6 channels attached to each channel, for instance, channel 13 has 4 channels... PBS has a whopping 6.

Did it a few years ago. Also using a Roku, but we did keep our local basic cable for local channels only. Also using Sling like you.

I'm curious then, why don't you just dump the cable and get a $50 dollar antenna for your local channels? That's what the 60 mile range one cost me at walmart.

Sling is excellent, I recommend it to anyone.

I cut the DirectTV not quite a year ago and haven't looked back since.

Roku, FireTV, and Kodi provide plenty of entertainment.

That not looking back feeling is pretty cool.

  13. Did here a few months ago... was with Directv for 17 years. What a great move. Directv was $100 a month for a basic service, I ditched the Sunday Ticket years ago. No longer needed it in this day and age.

So I bought a Ruku smart tv, a 60 mile range antenna (very flat in Florida, get almost a hundred channels on that alone), and signed up for Slingtv. Sling is $25 a month ($28 after taxes and whatever) and has all of the channels me and the wife like, and also has NFL Network. The same @#%# we were watching for $100. And more. AMC, Food Network, Nat Geo, History, Travel... on and on, same ones we had with Directv. Lots of movie channels.

Anyone else here done the same or something similar? If so, any good tips on what to download? There is a !@#$ ton of free stuff out there, looking for recommendations.

Unlimited miles for 250 a month? Hertz/Maven had a program for rideshare drivers and IIRC it was 280ish weekly with fees, that includes unlimited miles.

These are through dealerships... their ads permeate the news and other tv shows. In fact, most of the car commercials here seem to be about leasing, not buying... maybe 60/40 or so. As far as unlimited miles I doubt it though... maybe 30k on a 4 year lease, I'm not exactly sure on that one. What part of the country do you live in?

  15. 14 minutes ago, Commonsense said:

If they don't own their car they are doing even worse. 280 a week around here and then you lose out on the 53 cent per mile tax deductions. I think some people that use the service like to convince themselves that it's good for the drivers. Perhaps so they don't feel the need to tip.

Like I said I drove for them and did plenty of research before, during and after. Less than a dollar a mile before operating expenses. That's all that really needs to be said. It's peanuts.

Wow. If you are talking about leasing a car that is majorly high. I live in Florida and it's pretty routine to lease a car for $250 a month, or less. The usual Kia, Honda, Toyota, Ford kind, not high end vehicles though.

I always tip and have given every driver 5 stars... if you got me from point A to point B with no problems, english speaking or not, you are getting that.

A lot of these drivers around here are retired and are just racking up some golf money...

You did the math and then said the report is not true. Sloppy jaloppy! A car depreciates at 53 cents a mile according to the federal tax code, add in gas. So she made 6.33 for a 7 mile ride meaning she is making less than a dollar a mile before she even considers her cost to operate the vehicle. Perhaps finish the math before you put you say something is false.

Then consider how many miles she drove empty to come and pick you up and then again for her next rider. Uber/Lyft is basically taking out a cash advance on your car. I tried it for extra money and it doesn't take long to get enough of a samlle size to see the problem with it.

Also the drivers see exactly what you paid so they are just wasting your time with that conversation.

I still don't believe that report, there are too many variables. For instance, the lady I mentioned was at the other end of a parking lot/retail space so she only drove a few hundred feet to pick me up.

Gas is cheap right now, at least around here... $2.37 a gallon or so, and a lot of cars now are getting 30-40mpg. Where I live is flat as a pancake so they are getting the most out of their gas.

I'd say that over half that I've used don't even own their car, they lease it... so the wear and tear part is a moot point with them, maintenance too. Depreciation means zero in their cases.

Location. I don't live in a city but it is a vast area of retail, houses, apartments, restaurants, etc so drivers don't really have to look far or wait long for a rider. I've had drivers get a ping for the next rider as they dropped me off wherever.

My ride to the dentist this morning was a dude who barely spoke any english (but listened to country music, thought that was kind of funny), but the ride back to the house was a 30's something guy with two girls in elementary school. I asked him if he knew how much I was paying for the ride and he said he had no idea, only what he gets paid. So, that part seems to be conflicting... seems some (like you) know, and some do not. Wonder why that is.
