  1. Well I'd guess if Bills offense struggled against the blitz a bit more last season than prior couple seasons, then I'd say one issue which possibly was the biggest issue that played a factor was the absence of Bease.

Obviously multiple issues played a part, New OC, OL, etc....but that confidence and trust with Bease that he could rely on not there anymore when the ball needs to come out fast in those situations was a big part

Chiefs OL was a Top 5 ranked OL last year, according to most who rank them .. and many considered them to be the 2nd best, behind only Philly.

Yeah, I think that sounds about right. I do recall quite a few instances different sports shows mentioning  how good and improved KC's OL was. Some may have even considered as the best.

But yeah, would make all the difference in the world if Bills OL improves similar to that level

The majority of Josh's runs should come from scrambling with a few designed runs sprinkled in. But he needs to do a better job of getting down or out of bounds.

Obviously there will be big moments in games where you can understand if he does take a hit or two to pick up a 1st down, but there's plenty times he takes defenders on when there's no reason to. One that comes to mind is in the 1st game of 2022 against the Rams. We're up 31-10 when Basham intercepts Stafford. After the return and taunting penalty against us we start inside the Rams 40 with 7 minutes to go in the 4th. Allen runs the ball on 1st down, takes on a couple of defenders at the end of the play and picks up 13 yards.  He could've very easily picked up about 10 yards and got down. Absolutely no reason to invite contact there, the game is already over.

Yup that's what one of the main changes they want from him.

Certain fans are gonna be scared of Allen injuries for the majority of his career but he’s different from everyone else.

His competitive fire won’t allow for him to become cautious until his body sends him the message, the way he’s built and his opponents unwillingness to become posterized seem to point to this aggressive Allen for another 5-7 years.

    get used to it.

That's kinda how I see it also....

I mean we probably will see him take "what the defense gives you" a bit more often than before, especially early part of the season I'd expect. He will still use his legs often, but maybe tries to be more safe. There still will be times he lays it all on the line when he feels it's needed because that's just who he is.

Isaiah Simmons has played the majority of his snaps at OLB and CB, but has played 508 snaps at MLB for the Cards. I would assume that's a sufficient sample size of plays at MLB for a reasonable evaluation. The Cardinals have declined his 5th-year option. Simmons' salary for next season is an affordable 1.4 mil with a cap hit of 6.5 mil. Should his 508 snaps at MLB show well, perhaps a trade for Simmons would be the Bill's answer at MLB for next season.?

I don't know but probably would have better luck with what we got as of now Dodson, Spector etc.

I'm not sure what the reason is that when you came across this particular players name made you think he might be the answer at MLB?

  6. Well, I think there's only so much that can change when it comes to Allen. I mean certain situations he could do a little better like taking what the Defense gives him at times and whatnot.

But he is what he is and will still play his game more often than not I expect. He will still have those plays where he picks ups chunk yards with his legs.

Interesting.  I enjoyed this and comments others have made.

Frankly, what I like is that he apparently can play special teams.  If so, he makes the roster without pressure to step into a significant role on the offense.  Give him a year to learn the job.

    Whatever.  He's intriguing.

Meanwhile - what's the deal with a three-year deal for Shavers?

Agreed, just to say you're likely correct ST would increase his chances a lot to make the roster, while he may not have  "significant" role on offense for the most part, at some point in the season he will get some opportunities due to injury etc. I assume he may feel a little pressure but hope he handles it well

Question: Do you feel Edmunds had a significantly better 2022 season than previously?

Some people who watch games closely seem to think so

Others point out that his statistics for tackles etc were very similar to previous years, and attribute improvement to better line play keeping the LB clean

I did think Edmunds had a little bit of a better year, however I have always said that with the addition of Miller helping in not only of QB pressure but he also is a big factor for what factored in some improvement on DL, those I would say helped in a much bigger way in Edmunds improved season than just being his a contract year

Ed’s playing for his next contract… my read is it’s going to be his best year by far

Some posters say this a lot when a contract year comes up for a player. I mean if considering the circumstances regarding the situation the upcoming contract year and there's no significant difference from last year(s)....

I just ask do you really believe said player just because of his contract year will now light it up and have his record year suddenly?

Oliver is better than his current perception on this board.

Yeah for the perception of some that's true and there are some others it's not.

He improved a some last season with addition of Von Miller and when healthy, at the same time though I'm not sure there was all that big of a gap in performance between the players in that particular position for the most part really. Each one of them made some plays, Jones, Settle, Oliver, and Jordan P made plays, especially when healthy and before Von went down.

Honestly I don't recall it being much difference in performance from one to the other. Not enough to brag about anyways imo

Has one of those “proposed trades” ever actually happened? It might have once for something obvious but I don’t recall the details. I wish people would give that up

Lol, of course not... in reference to those certain silly type kind of trades some post once in a while, something like "Cam Lewis sucks, should trade him and at least get a 3rd".

Only thing I can think of off top of my head that comes close, but also was unexpected and surprised many people, was the Tyrod trade when Beane got a 3rd few years back. But that's about it

I think it's time for certain Bills fans to let the "trade Ed Oliver!" fever dream die once and for all.

He doesn't have much value. If you think he's so unimpressive that he's not worth re-signing to a second contract, then why would other teams be willing to give up major assets for him?

If you just want his money off the books and you're willing to take a conditional 2024 5th, then sure, trade him away. Because that's the most you'd likely be getting in return.

If his rate of pay this year doesn't bother you, though, then you may as well ride out his final year and let him either have a great season and force your hand in re-signing him, or let him walk and receive a compensatory pick higher than the one you could likely trade him for.

Lol, I think about that often when reading some of these trade scenarios that are posted. I don't understand why the ones that post those type of trade scenarios don't seem to take that into consideration...

i voted struggle to make the AFC Championship game ... The Bengals and Chiefs will struggle to make it as well. That's what happens when 3 of the top 4 teams are in the AFC.

Never know what will happen throughout the season that can significantly hurt any teams chance to make the post season and go far.

As for the Bengals and Chiefs you mentioned though, I'd think they are likey 2 favorites to make the AFCCG

I think he flashed, albeit inconsistent, at 3-T...but we played him out of position in necessity at the 1-T at times.

He was also injured LY too, just like all our Dts it seemed.  Hopefully they can stay healthy this year

Agree, thought Settle made some plays too. I mean I'd guess he played about as well as anyone else on the Dline. Not much difference to make a big deal about imo

One could argue that Ford is/was one of the top five or so free agents left at ANY position.

He isn't like some of the edge rushers left, who are long in the tooth and whose best days are probably behind them.

Ford is 27 and, theoretically, should be in the prime of his career.

I'm trying to avoid saying that his addition to the Bills' d-line could pay HUGE dividends, but, well...

Well, that's certainly what the hope is....although the Dline did improve some last season (which is great and in the right direction), but also struggled a bit more than you'd want to see.

Obviously the importance of this trickles down to the LBers. We saw how Edmunds improved last season and the Dline improvement certainly played a factor in that. Now we are between Dodson, Spector etc as of now and if that's the same when season starts then even greater the importance because the LBers may need all the help they can get.

What needs do we have left

LB seems unlikely based on various comments from Beane so....

    - RT to compete with Brown:  George Fant or Brandon Shell

    - Veteran Edge (my dream is 2 of them:  Melvin Ingram + Ngakoue/Houston/Floyd/Quinn)  Trade Epenesa or Basham for a late pick

    Von
    Rousseau

    Ingram

    Ngakoue

    Shaq

is a heck of a rotation

We can extend DaQuan Jones and restructure Dion Dawkins to make it work

Well yes, however you also may want to at least to some extent take into consideration that you can't always go by what Beane says at times

It's possible the Cardinals scouts actually like him

    I mean maybe I guess....

But I'm not sure there's much of anything that would make them like him. Maybe if they go back to the college tape? Certainly didn't show very much, or any kind of promise during the few opportunities he had so far.
