I posted this in another thread with a longer explanation… but if Hopkins signs, there is absolutely no need for Gabe and we can get a premium pick for him NOW.

We will run heavy 2TE sets this year, correct? If so, Hopkins and Diggs go on the outside, with Harty and Shakir competing in the slot (and Kincaid). That leaves Shorter and Sherfield as deep ball specialists… kinda like Gabe, but they also are great at Special Teams. You don’t keep 7WR in a 2TE system when you can get a premium asset for one who will see only a few snaps per game.

Disagree....there definitely would be a need for Gabe incase of injury and etc.

As I said if it happens it won't be til next year imo

I don’t see that happening management loves Gabe Davis says nothing but glowing things about him constantly and he doesn’t have a huge cap hit this year. Not to mention the fact that he’s playing in a contract year so he’s going to ball out.

I see this said quite often by some. That because a player is in a contract year their performance will improve to a great extent due to that particular reason.

I am pretty optimistic this year. When McDermott took over the play calling duties when the defense was struggling before they did improve! The pessimistic points seem very trivial.

That's one of the areas I'm feeling a little bit optimistic with McD now in full control of the Defense and eager to see how it looks. As for the WR's I believe we are in a bit better position than last season right now, but would be no question if they manage to land Dhop.

The one area of the team, I'm not sure I'd call it "pessimistic" describing how I feel as much as I'd say just no clue what to expect either way.

Uhhh dude you realize hopkins got dumped by Bill Obrien for peanuts you really think he's gonna go play for him again?

I mean I just have a hard time believing it. And the patriots would honestly be one of the least threatening places for him to land.

Lol, I'm with ya here.....that's exactly what immediately popped in my mind when I saw that also.

Yup. Well McD has pretty consistently had Bass kick it high and short of the EZ and Bass and our ST has overall done a phenomenal job at it

I don't know if I'd say they were phenomenal at it, there were some times they kept teams inside the 25 here and there but not sure it was enough to say did they did phenomenal. While Bass is a very good kicker, he will more times than you'd want to see kick some of those out of bounds giving offenses good field position starting at the 40.

Straight up. If the Bills ever moved, i was tossing a coin. Heads = Baltimore, Tails = Pittsburgh.

Ok, but do you think you could feel the same way for one of those teams as the Bills?

For me if Bills moved I'd have no other team, ever. I'd be a lot less interested in NFL all together. I'd probably tune into playoffs that would be about it

I think my level of fandom is equal between the Bills and the Mets.

I am a lot more committed to watching every Bills game, but that’s only because there’s fewer than 20 in a season vs. 162+.

I do watch at least part of most Mets games, though.

Last year was probably the first year ever that I thought the Mets and Bills could both go all the way (before their seasons started).

My expectations over the years have become much more realistic (outside of last year).

Between a World Series Championship and a Lombardi?  That’s tough.

I honestly can’t say which one I want more.

I feel ya...was just wondering because I was always a die hard Charlotte Hornets and Bills fan only back in the day. The orignal hornets back in early 1990's. Anyway, as much as I loved my Hornets back then, my Bills always meant more to me than hornets did.

When rumors were heating up that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez were going to buy the Mets, I was 100% prepared to dump the Mets if it came to fruition.

My mind was made up that I’d switch to the Red Sox (because Fenway is the same distance from me as Citifield and I love Fenway) and only switch back if the team was sold to someone else.

    Luckily, it didn’t happen.

Had it happened and I jumped ship, I would not consider myself disloyal, given the context.

I get some situations can be different regarding different kind of sports leagues MLB/NFL/NBA.

I'm curious and if you don't mind me asking,  do you consider your level of fandom for the Mets the same as for the Bills? Or do you feel one means more to you than the other?

I am from Buffalo and my best friend growing up was a huge Raiders fan as a kid and now has been a Colts fan for a long time...I don't know how you do it either...

Now in this type of circumstance I can get it and see some reasoning behind a person for saying that. In this instance your friend was a kid, which I get certain kids that may be younger liking a team and as they get older that easily can change. But this was a man that was in his late 50's up to mid 60's

seems pretty simple but, to each their own. have as many team favorites as you want. seems many, like myself and including the OP are loyal to one team. good for us.  likely most nfl or even college fans remain loyal to one team. even if they move as I have, remained a  loyal bills fan.

I guess I can see why you question it, saying he's a loyal die hard fan to more than one team (loyal: giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution > singular) but is there a limit to loyalty? I know you can't be loyal to two wives but were talking football teams. I don't know, until now I'd never questioned or thought about how loyal a fan of their team(s) they may be or judge their loyalty for that matter. that's on them, I know what nfl team I have been loyal to for over a half century now, that's all that really matters.

Well, you do make a point about if it's a limit for loyalty, so I guess one can look at it that way if he had given that impression. Thing with that though is he made it clear he cared nothing for Packers at all, the team he said he was a loyal die hard fan of.

If he said he still liked the Packers to some extent then I get it, not my thing, but least not as bad lol

I generally agree with you about fandom, and I, too have trouble relating to people like the one you mentioned in your post.

    With that said...

To play devil's advocate, I think it can be tough for people born and raised in or near a passionate football city like Buffalo to understand what fandom is like for fans who don't.

For instance, was born and raised in Rochester, NY -- solidly Bills country. Nowadays I live in Portland, OR. No football team here, obviously, and not a very passionate football town. When it comes to football fandom, it's a mixed bag. People either like the Seahawks, some other random team, or don't follow the NFL at all, and are instead Oregon Ducks or Oregon State Beavers fans.

Perhaps when one's fandom is not innately related to the region in which they were raised, it's easier to switch allegiances. I've met people over the years who particularly liked one specific player, and would follow that player from team to team, and thus switch allegiances. So a Tom Brady fan goes from being a Pats fan to a Bucs fan to....God knows what, once the player retires.

Along these lines, having been raised in western NY, I don't have any passionate college football allegiances. I could root for Buffalo, or Syracuse, or maybe Ohio State, but...meh. I don't feel passionate about any of them. I could see, then, rooting for different college teams over the years based on players, coaches, play style, etc.

See I can completely understand where you're coming from in those certain situations and I basically wouldn't question the issue regarding the circumstances you stated. However, if that's the case then they should not claim to be a "loyal die hard" fan of said team I would think.

Yeah I can’t buy into that. That’s just not a “die hard” fan then. It’s ok but people like that can’t just they are a casual fan or of course so many that would never admit to being bandwagon fan. That is not a die hard fan

Agree, I have heard a few different people say that type stuff on other occasions. After I hear someone say that I'm immediately done with the conversation. I just can't have a genuine football discussion with that person

  13.

I have to think this has happened to quite a few ppl here before at some point or other.....

Anyways, to quickly set the scene for you just a bit, stopped for gas while I was out running some errands and have one of my many Bills shirts etc, and have a smaller 3-4in tattoo of Bills charging buffalo on the back of my neck people notice sometimes that often is the first thing they comment on getting my attention starting a little football talk....

Told him I was a loyal die hard Bills fan for almost 40 years now and he was a die hard fan of the Packers for however many years, but at some point is now a die hard Raiders fan lol

So how can one be a "loyal die hard" fan when you switch teams like that? I could never do it, I can't imagine myself being a fan of any other team besides Buffalo.

For me this is not even a real topic. 2 years ago we had a bad offensive line but good targets. Last year we had a bad offensive line and no targets. What ya  think they would do? Now we have an "average" (and I am ok with saying around 15th best OL} With actual target that you can get rid of the ball quick.

This topic for me is a no brainer. We needed to get better on the Line and Targets. We did it. Moving on.

Well, clearly there's no way to know if the OL is average or anything right now. It may be between 5-8 weeks before you're able to get a good idea where they might stack up.

Dorsey watched how a really good TE was used at Carolina. I do not think Dorsey will be an issue as much as people think.

Well, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at in regards of what you say he watched at Carolina. He could have gotten Knox more involved than he did. I hope he figures it out with Knox/Kincaid in his 2nd season.'

As for the bold, that's certainly the hope..however it remains to be seen and some fans aren't as confident in Dorsey at the moment
