  1. I've seen Locker play a number of times and I don't quite get this widespread support for him. He's alright but so is Clausen, so is Bradford, so is Lefevour. None of them strike me as "can't miss" QBs. The most interesting college QB to me is Andrew Luck.
  2. If you're referring to the old Johnny Carson joke, that'd be the SLAUSON cutoff.
  3. You might be right. The problem is, he just doesn't have enough pounds.
  4. Having watched the Bills for a very long time, I've come to feel that if Levy had Wade Phillips running the D during the Super Bowls run, there would be at least one and perhaps more Lombardi Trophies on display at OBD.
  5. Wow! I am officially in awe. Thanks for this.
  6. One of the things I liked a lot about Fewell when he took over was that he moved practices outdoors.
  7. I agree. Paul Brown signed him out of high school (in western PA, of course) then hid him out in Canada from where the Bills finally gave him a shot. But the topic is "One of the best players the Bills ever DRAFTED," not the best who PLAYED for the Bills. I don't know if Ernie Davis was the best of all time that the Bills drafted, but he ranks in the top ten for certain. He was part of that great run of backs out of Syracuse under Ben Schwartzwalder.
  8. While so many here are accepting Joe D's opinions as tremendously insightful, ain't it peculiar the focus has been on coaches who maybe/maybe not were fired instead of on this exchange: Q: Who would you like to see the Bills draft in April? A: I’d like to see them draft the kid from Central Michigan, Dan LeFevour. I really think that kid’s gonna be a good quarterback. But I don’t know if Trent Edwards is a bad quarterback, because he’s had so many coordinators. He’s had what, four coordinators? So you can’t tell. This (franchise) has been so disheveled the last couple years, you don’t know what’s going on. I told the Bills a couple years ago, trade all your draft picks and draft Ben Roethlisberger. I told (defensive coordinator then interim head coach) Perry Fewell last year at dinner, I said, ‘Perry, please draft (USC’s) Clay Matthews Jr.’ He’s only in the Pro Bowl this year. Q: What do you see in LeFevour? A: He’s big, he’s mobile, and he’s got an arm, and he can throw it in the wind, and he’s close. He’s playing in Michigan, in cold weather. If I was the coach, I’d put a dot on Buffalo and I’d go 300 miles around it and I’d try to get as many players as I can from there because, believe it or not, their families will come and watch them and then when the families come watch them, they’ll play a little harder.
  9. I noticed a fair number of people have taken a look at this question..and only one has made a comment. That tells me nobody knows what's going on over at OBD. I know I'd feel a little better if the key players were in town and working hard (Brohm, Edwards, Fitz to start with). Maybe they are but if so apparently they're doing it in secret.
  10. I was wondering if anybody knows who on the current roster is working out and/or studying at OBD. Also, anyone know if Nix and/or Gailey have actually met all the players in person? Are TE, Fitz and Brohm in town?
  11. The two other knuckleheads, Dukes and Woodson, both pushed for the Bills to take a QB, proving why they're commentators on a fringe network and not running a team. Like there's a guaranteed franchise QB available. Or if you really think Bradford or Clausen is one, like they might be their for the pickin' at #9. Or if they did grab one of those two guys, like they'd survive behind the current Bills line. You know, like, like, well, like say somethin' that shows you actually know the Bills situation. But what else would you expect from the "All Tebow All The Time Network."
  12. All stats in all sports can be misleading but most of all in football, which is really the ultimate team sport. A great hitter or pitcher in baseball can still have a solid statistical record on a losing team. Same for a good shooter in basketball. But no matter how good you are as a football player, you will have a very hard time living up to your potential if the players around you suck. That's why I don't necessarily put a lot of weight on the W-L record. For example, as much as I respect Peyton Manning, I think for raw talent, his father might have been even better. And his W-L record stinks. Because he had the misfortune to be stuck on a bad team in the days before free agency.
  13. I really don't know if TE's problems are the result of lousy lines, lousy coaching or of his own lousy abilities; good cases have been made for all three possibilities here on TSW. But I can't forget that Bill Walsh, who was widely regarded as one of the very best evaluators of QBs, raved about Edwards. I believe he said something like Edwards was the best he'd seen coming out of college since Montana. So if it's the line that was the problem, that's in the process of being fixed. If it's the coaching, then you could hardly ask for better than Gailey, who has a rep as a very good QB mentor and an OC who tailors his approach to the abilities (and limitations) of his QB. So that leaves TE's own abilities as the real question mark in my mind. That's what the spotlight will be on this season (and pre-season). Maybe he finally "gets it" and lives up to Bill Walsh's prediction. Or maybe he's beyond salvaging. But with the absence of a consensus franchise QB being available to the Bills in this draft, if the coaches feel he's good enough to start, then I would support that decision. But I'd be holding my breath.
  14. In the "olden days," if you wore orange on Paddy's Day, you were definitely getting a beating. I think that's still the case in certain areas of Boston. I know of a pub where they won't serve you on any day of the year if you wear orange. Wearing orange on Paddy's Day is like showing up at a Martin Luther King Day celebration in a sheet and hood.
  15. I couldn't find this on any other thread so I'm tossing it out here. This is per Chris Brown's blog at the Bills website.
  16. So I followed the link and read what this genius has to say. I assume he looked at all the holes the Bills have, and all the good players available who can contribute immediately (which is what Nix and Gailey will focus on). Yet then he determines the Bills will select...Tebow in the second round??? He then admits that Tebow would be a huge project. Is there anything Nix, Gailey or Whaley have said that makes this guy think they're into long-term "projects?" The only team that will draft Tebow is one that is so strong in all its key areas that it can "waste" a pick on one of the great "if/maybe" projects of all time. And that sure doesn't sound like the Bills. The only possible way he winds up with the Bills is if he goes undrafted and the Bills are the only team that makes him an offer.
  17. Only if you think LT is an improvement over Thomas Jones. I don't.
  18. While I believe the Bills will sign at least one RB this year -- Lynch is underachieving, thus an injury to Jackson would be devastating -- taking a running back in the top 20 is nuts, except in the rare case of a once-a-generation back. First off, aside from that once-in-a-generation runner, RBs are, relatively speaking, a dime a dozen, and good to great ones can be found in the later rounds or even among the undrafted. For example, Thurman in the 2nd and Fred Jackson basically off the street. Secondly, they have about the shortest "career expectancy" of any position. So if you have a high pick (which also means paying a premium price) doesn't it make more sense to invest in a position that has a longer career expectancy, like QB or O line? Thirdly, unlike QB and some other positions, where there is an extended learning curve, RB is probably the most "plug and play" position in the NFL, which is why they start so often as rookies. Because of the nature of RB, there is fairly little "coaching up" required. Which is one reason they can be evaluated so much easier based on their play in college. I'm not knocking Spiller; he's great, no doubt about it. But I think we all know the holes the Bills desperately need to fill right now with top picks, and RB ain't one of them. BTW, here's my suggestion for an off-the-radar RB whom I think has tremendous potential and can probably be picked up way late in the draft and might even go undrafted: Stafon Johnson. Until he was injured, he was the go-to guy for SC when you really needed the yards. And I think USC's mediocre season last fall had as much to do with his absence as with Sanchez leaving early. Just a thought.
  19. What is it with the loser mentality of sooooo many Bills fans? The general tenor of "critiques" is that most of the Bills players stink ("Get rid of...(fill in the blank with...) all the QBs, Lynch, Whitner, Bell, Hangartner, Ellison, Maybin, Kelsay, Williams, Stroud...the list goes on) while every single player released by another team is "just what the Bills need," no matter who they are, no matter their reputations, no matter their age, no matter their financial demands. Now it's Torey Holt whose going to be the WR savior of the Bills. Torey Holt???? I must be hallucinating.
  20. And you know for certain that the Bills FO didn't take a look at them? Or call them? Or in any way attempt to sign them? Sheesh! If you're an older player, which most of the underwhelming FA class is this year, and you're good enough to attract multiple offers split, let's say, between teams with a genuine chance of winning a ring or a team clearly rebuilding, which would you choose?
