The Rams have not been great for years. They recently got a great young coach and started building something but the GM managed to blow all the money and draft picks the past two years which I think will close their SB window prematurely.

Again...they were in the Super Bowl 18 months ago and "slumped" to 9-7.

They've got some great pieces in place to contend for a championship for years, and I think Snead has been a great GM for years.

Meanwhile, we have yet to win a playoff game and we are ready to give Beane a key to the city. Let's keep some perspective here.

They are paying Todd Gurley 9.8 mill and Brandin Cooks 21.8 mill to play for other teams this year.

Good point - but I give them credit for quickly cutting bait when it didn't work out.

Gurley was a shame - he was so good for years, and came crashing down in a few weeks.

I guess I don't get the need to disparage other franchises that have been great for years.

Sports Illustrated was gutted last year. They replaced all their salaried veteran high quality sports reporters who had been there from their print days with cheap freelances who are nothing more than amateur bloggers. SI is a sad husk of its former self.

Yep - great read on what happened:

This was one of the last articles Deadspin put out before their entire team quit! They put out some very unique content over the years. I wasn't always a fan, but some they had some gems here and there. The new Deadspin absolutely sucks.

I never questioned his elite status. I questioned his stats and his longevity given those amounts of touches per his contract.
Let’s also not forget most running backs who eclipse 300 rush attempts  in a season decline almost immediately after. He hasn’t hit that mark, but given his receiving targets the odds are his body and production will never hold.

We're talking about a player who just turned 24. I think he's got plenty of years of elite production in his future.

His 2019 output of ~2400 scrimmage yards could very well could be his best season, but I think he has many 1700+ yard seasons on the horizon. I'd take that.

You nailed it, Kyle Allen.. And an offense that basically threw everything to the line of scrimmage or within 5 years for two straight seasons.  How many teams in the league play check down football for 4 quarters every week regardless of score even when they have some talent to work the mid range part of the field with Moore? If CMC is on Seattle does he have 1000 rushing and receiving? How about Houston? How about buffalo? (Calm down Sherlock if you see this) What team is giving him that many touches in a season?
His statistics are a bit of an anomaly, his talent is not.

He'd be an elite RB in any scheme. Pass/Run mix might change, but he'd still get a ton of touches.

The other elite backs are in the 300-360 touch range , but I don't think any other back offers his pass catching versatility.

He hit 400 this year and maintained high YPA & YPC numbers

Mccafrey wouldn’t see half those targets on another team. I don’t discredit his value to their offense and his talent level but his stats are inflated by a bad team who clearly wanted to run his stats up. They force fed him like crazy toward the end of the season to get him to 100 catches so he’d hit the milestone. And I wouldn’t give the contract cause the odds are high his body will be shot after the workload he’s had the past 2 seasons.

I'm confused by this alternate reality (I love hypothesis contrary to fact fallacies )  where "another team" wouldn't give McCaffery a ton of touches.

He had to play with Kyle Allen most of the year, and still put up one of the best seasons we've ever seen from a RB.

There are scenarios where player production requires an asterisk, but this is not one of them.

if Kamara got the same touches and targets as CMC

But he doesn't...he's been on a pitch count since he entered the league. He's an excellent back, but I'm sure Sean Payton has a reason for limiting his touches.

Paying a top tier back $12-$16m really isn't ridiculous, especially when they are equally skilled as a pass catcher. These are explosive players who can put up 1500+ scrimmage yards a season. You're going to pay $18M-$23M for a receiver who can do the same.

I think you could make a case for paying for two top tier, complimentary backs (Ex. Alvin Kamara + Nick Chubb) on the right team. That be fun to watch.

Kamara is an electrifying player but he does have some limitations that puts him on the fringe of elite so we agree there. But Henry is an elite back, yes he is a non-factor in the passing game. But he is a complete terror on the ground. He completely ran over two elite defenses in the playoffs (Patriots and Ravens) and he demanded all the defensive attention from KC just to slow him down a bit. Henry is so dynamic as a traditional runner that his limitations in the passing game aren't impacting his value that much. I do agree though that between Moss and Singletary the Bills should have a top 10 RB combo at the very least if both are healthy.

Henry....man, I hope he is not Brandon Jacobs 2.0. He is a true bulldozer at the position and is awesome to watch.

Much of this argument depends on how many guys can fit into the "elite superstar" bucket...I'd go top 5, and my list would be McCaffery, Zeke, Saquon, Chubb and Aaron Jones.

We've gone in a circle with my original point, which is that elite dual threat playmakers at that position will usually go early.

Kamara, Henry and Bell are not superstars?

    Yeah, OK........

Admit it, you made a bold claim and didn't expect people to challenge you.

Kamara doesn't have a single 1000 yard season on his resume.

Bell is a shell of himself.

    Henry is one dimensional.

You don't have to agree with it, but it's how I see it.

He, literally, named 6 elite backs from 2019. Henry, Mixon, Drake, Kamara, Carson and Ingram were elite. The bills would’ve taken the production of any of those players over their own RB’s

I see Kamara as a fringe elite guy, as is Henry (non factor in passing game).  The others I see as good to great.

I'm pretty bullish about the total rushing yards we'll see from Josh, Singletary and Moss this year; I think we can be in the top 3 of the league.

    ALWAYS?

Look at the current RBs who went Day 2 or later.

Bell, Henry, Cook, Mixon, Kamara, Jones, Lindsay, Conner, Ingram, Carson, Drake.......

Most of those are round 3 and later, some undrafted.

They can go early but a lot of good, 3 down starters at RB come via later rounds

I said elite backs, not "good, 3 down starters".  There's a difference.

If you want a true superstar at the position, you will usually have to draft them early.

Look around the NFL, there are a LOT of RB's that are the better RB's in this league that were all 3rd round or later picks.  You are just way off base here dude.

I think you can find decent backs in the 3rd and later, but elite dual threat backs will always go early.

I'd argue the top 3 are McCaffery, Zeke & Saquon - all top 8 picks.

If the Chiefs can afford all of the contracts on their roster including Mahomes huge deal, the 49ers have several large contracts as do the Seahawks, I’m not even a little bit concerned about the Bills guys getting paid.

Same - we can afford to keep plenty of our players.

The Chiefs had ~$200 of 2020 cap space before Mahomes, Kelce and Jones were signed. No, that's not a typo.

They found a way, and barring the Pegulas going cheap, so will we.

You people hoping for the bills to become a mess are hilarious.

We had a nice 15+ year run where we were a total dumpster fire.

Nathan Peterman was the rock bottom moment, but holy *****, we've really rebounded since then.

It's still surreal that people are talking about this team actually contending for a championship.

So you are saying to take the law into one's hands?  Sounds like a recipe for disaster.  This is not 1880 or 1915 or 1932.  There is a mechanism in place to address police brutality.  If you have been abused by the cops then use that mechanism.

Not quite - only stating the obvious. The system is broken, and we need to build a better one.
