Hot Take: This is going to actually improve the Browns.

Baker tries to force it to OBJ a ton to keep him happy. However, when he has the ability to spread it out he is much better

They run a Kubiak/Shanahan offense, which is run heavy and built around setting up play action.

The Browns offensive salaries are backward  - you don't pay your starting WRs and TE ~$45m annually when your offense runs through two RBs making ~$6M annually.

I thought that also, but I don’t see how beating a glorified college team helps you get right.  false confidence perhaps.

You play the schedule you're given. Somedays you get the Chiefs, somedays you get the Jets.  A win is a win.

Let's get Adam Gase fired and use that momentum to take down Russ in two weeks.

38 yards in the air to a hole in the zone with 4 titans 5 yards away from Yeldon all turned looking at the QB. Right in the numbers, while drifting left.

    it is nearly impossible.

Agreed - it was a tremendous throw, but we have QBs making "nearly impossible" throws every week.

He is showing the ability to make all the throws, which is required of an elite QB.  That's exciting, and now it's just about consistency.

Fun stat too, Josh owns 2/20 on the year

For naysayers please tell me who else can make that TD throw to yeldon. I can list a number of guys in canton that can’t. The play was otherworldly.

That's a hard one to prove. I think Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, and Josh can all do it.  We know Brady, Big Ben and Brees have thrown countless red zone darts over their career. Watson has shown the ability (not as familiar) - Lamar can do it if he's throwing to Mark Andrews 😁

We're experiencing a QB renaissance, and there many guys who can sling it all over the field. Josh is one of them, but I don't watch his passes and think "he's the only one who can do that".

the throw on Tuesday to Yeldon is impossible for all but 3 or 4 humans on the planet

    I'll bite...prove it.

I love what Josh is doing, and of course he is a tremendously gifted passer,  but the whole "nobody else can make those throws" shtick is pretty silly.

We have seen all the elite QBs make some tremendous throws (Mahomes is in a class of his own) in recent weeks, and even some of the up and comers (Herbert!) have been dropping dimes. It's not like the Bills are asking WRs to run routes that rely on spectacular throws either.

Yes absolutely. If we can’t draft an elite one, then we have to buy one. What good is having elite players like White, if he has to cover for eons?

With the COVID landscape, I'd be extremely hesitant to throw valuable draft capital at any player.

Beane and Mcdermott decided to invest in a heavy rotation, group pass rush approach. It hasn't worked out yet, but it is not time to blow that model up.

I hear he is overly concerned with what is being said about him in the media and spends a lot of time on Twitter.  Maturity concerns abound.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, and it does seem there are reasonable concerns around his work ethic and maturity.

I still think WFT is a terrible environment for any young QB.

  8. Interesting read from Deadspin* and the raw deal Haskins is getting

I'll punt on the race angle, but they make some good points here and there.

This is how the Nepotism Football League rabbit hole works. An unqualified rookie coordinator vouches for an undrafted QB, and needs that QB because he knows his system...

Ultimately, Washington’s offense is in big trouble because Rivera chose to invest in Scott Turner’s future instead of Haskins’, and is doubling down on that first big mistake.

*The new, bland and largely neutered version of Deadspin.

  9. Damn, this is pretty granola stuff.

Most outdoor activities in quiet places will elicit a calming response. How this became "therapy" of hippies chewing on moss is bizarre.

Activities like hiking, backpacking, hunting for game, hunting for mushrooms, geocaching, cross country skiing, etc. are good enough in themselves.

  10. For elite QB play, there is Mahomes, a gap, and then everyone else. I think he has GOAT potential - he's that good.

Plenty of teams passed on Mahomes, but only team traded the pick to KC.  That will always be a "What If?" for BIlls fans, and that's OK.

Until we win a ring of our own, these threads will continue to repeat themselves.

You guys are merciless.  Does anyone not singing the platitudes of the Bills 24/7 do anything right?

Plenty of people were wrong about Josh, and many of those reasons were completely justified, even some of the cruel ones.  So what? Own it and move on, or laugh at yourself like the writer did.

I never could get past the NCAA and year 1-2 numbers, but I'm fully on the hype train now!

True story - last year at the Jim Kelly charity event, Josh came out towards the end for pictures and autographs. My wife and SIL rushed him and got great pictures with him, while I stayed back. Why? Because I didn't believe he had what it takes to be a star QB. These days,  I''d absolutely rush him for a picture, just need to finish my crow BBQ first!

  12. Idle time can be very high with fly rods.

Tiny bugs, changing tippet, swapping leaders, multiple fly rigs, it can be a PITA.

Get your kit and technique dialed in before you get on the water!

  13. This article is a great synopsis of this thread:

    https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2020/10/8/21498755/josh-allen-buffalo-bills-breakout-season-qb-scouting

    This section stood out:

    Quote

Allen’s dramatic improvement means that one of two things must be true. The first is that it’s possible for quarterbacks to improve their ability to throw accurately well into their 20s, a lesson that would invalidate much of the current methodology behind how franchises draft quarterbacks...The other scenario is that Allen is a spectacular, incredible outlier. In this event, any teams that believe they should focus on finding mountain men like Allen in hopes of fixing their flaws will end up sinking valuable years and millions of dollars into doomed reclamation projects.

Bills fans probably want to believe that the first of these things is true, and that the media members like me who trashed Allen before the draft were entirely misguided in their thinking. And that may indeed be the case. Relying too heavily on statistical analysis in something as variable as quarterback scouting can lead to massive misses on players with singular traits. But Bills fans should probably hope that the second thing is more true, and that what’s happening with Allen is remarkable, irreplicable, and utterly unpredictable. Josh Allen seems to be special, and they got him. It’d be better for Buffalo if the rest of the league wasted valuable draft capital trying to find the next Josh Allen when in fact Josh Allen is the only person capable of doing the ridiculous things that Josh Allen is doing
