Serious question: Is this the beginning of a tank?
jrober38 replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills were smart they'd trade McCoy and get some compensation and get out from that contract. This team is no longer built to compete this year, so we might as well cash in on McCoy. -

If the Bills had any class they'd cut Kyle Williams and let him latch on with a playoff team. These trades, and our clear intent to rebuild through the draft make it pretty clear this team isn't going to compete for another few years while they search for and groom a young QB. -
McD and Beane/ Do you trust them?
jrober38 replied to Buffalo Boy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Trust is earned. If this works out, they'll be here for 10+ years. If it doesn't, we'll be looking for a new coach in 16 months. -

Only thing I can think of is that they want Boldin to mentor Jones for a year. That's all I've got. Our offensive personnel, particularly at QB and WR is bottom of the barrel relative to the rest of the NFL. I'm fine with these moves, because I love having a ton of picks in what should be a strong draft class, but there's no way to sugar coat how this is going to affect the 2017 season. We're going to be one of the worst teams in the league this season. -

Jordan Matthews was getting cut. Jordan Matthews + 3rd round pick = Ron Darby Sammy Watkins = 2nd round pick + EJ Gaines Suggesting Watkins is on the same level as Matthews is absurd. -

I was expecting something around 6-10. Now it's more like 4-12 which would put us in the top 5 picks. -

Sure, that's what they're doing, but the result is also that they've accepted that they're going to be really bad this year. This team will be worse in 2017 as a result of these trades. -

The Bills might not be tanking, but they're certainly putting themselves in a position where they're going to get a top QB next year. We're probably looking at a top 5 pick right now given how hard the schedule is and given how little talent we have at WR. -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?
jrober38 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Losing a few mil in cap space is hardly a financially irresponsible decision, especially if there are better players who you can keep ahead of him. Teams all across the NFL are going to cut players who cost them cap space in the coming weeks. That's life in the NFL. -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?

Again, backup linebackers MUST provide value on special teams, and Ragland is useless in that area. You don't keep backup linebackers who can't play special teams. -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?
jrober38 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just because Ragland has a pulse doesn't make him "depth". He's on the third team for a reason, and he offers nothing on special teams. 3rd stringers who can't cover punts and kicks don't make NFL rosters... -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?
jrober38 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who cares. Ragland is borderline useless for this defense because he can't execute the way we need our MLB to execute at that position. Keeping a guy who doesn't help us because it'll cost $1.5 mil is a really weak argument for why we should keep someone. -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?
jrober38 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then they'll cut him. Ragland never fit McDermott's D. He needs LBs who can run and cover, and those are the things Ragland is weakest at. Ragland is a two down, 3-4 ILB. We can probably trade him, but if we can't his lack of special teams value will seal his fate. -
Could Ragland be surprise cut of 2017?

Ragland isn't going to be on this team at the end of preseason. He simply doesn't fit the scheme and he offers nothing on special teams, making it extremely unlikely he sticks with this team. My guess is he'll be traded in the next week or so. I imagine they're working the phones pretty hard in the coming days with teams who run a 3-4 defense. -
RD 5, Pick 171: Nathan Peterman (QB) - Pitt
jrober38 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assuming a rookie WR is CURRENTLY better than a guy who just signed a 5 year $35 mil contract is quite the leap of faith. You're setting yourself up to be disappointed. Lesean McCoy and the running game are our bread and butter. We'll continue to run the ball, control the clock and play defense because that's what supports our personnel the best. Throwing the ball 35 times a game doesn't make any sense with Taylor as the QB, and I say this as someone who thinks Taylor is a pretty good NFL game manager. -
The Bills starting 22 isn't bad, but our depth is as bad as I've seen from the Bills in years. Behind our starters, we've got nothing at DE, DT, CB, SS, FS, WR, TE and RB. Once the injuries kick in I think we'll (yet again) be in big trouble.

RD 5, Pick 171: Nathan Peterman (QB) - Pitt
jrober38 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Woods was a product of our passing game, which is extremely limited due to our interest in running the ball as much as possible. 2nd in rush attempts. 32nd in pass attempts. Unless that changes (which I doubt is going to happen), Jones is going to struggle to catch 50 passes as a rookie. -
What if Peterman is better than Mahomes??
jrober38 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched him a bit and didn't like what I saw. Next to none of his game translates to the NFL. His play style is very similar to Johnny Manziel. His big and he's mobile, but he doesn't operate within a system from the pocket and relies on chaos around him to make big plays outside the pocket that won't be there to be made in the NFL where defenders are bigger, stronger and faster. His mechanics are atrocious, and he misses routine throws as a result. Maybe he cleans all that up and becomes great. If he does, he'll probably become a top 5 QB, but on the flip side his floor is incredibly low. He's the type of guy who if the light doesn't come on might be out of the league in 4-5 years. Total boom or complete bust type prospect. -

jrober38 replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The number of people on here who are convinced Pat Mahomes is going to be a great QB is amazing. The guy hasn't throw a pass in the NFL and he comes from a system that has NEVER produced a quality NFL QB. Try pumping the brakes a bit... -
Great Article on Bills/Whaley by John Kryk
jrober38 replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really good article. A major problem is obviously Russ Brandon, yet he remains untouchable. The Pegulas have yet to demonstrate with either of their professional sports franchises that they're competent owners. Both organizations have been incredibly unstable with constant turnover and neither team has any success whatsoever on the field/ice. I'm thankful that the Pegulas bought, and kept the Bills in Buffalo, but the amount of power that they've handed to McDermott seems like a recipe for real disaster. He appears to be running the whole show despite being nothing more than a pretty average defensive coordinator for most of his career. I'm not overly optimistic this is going to work out. There's simply no precedent for a coach as green as McDermott having this much control succeeding in their first stint as HC. Hopefully I'm wrong. -
Doug Whaley was a horrible GM. His drafting was abysmal and his management of the salary cap was terrible. Now if we could fire Russ Brandon this franchise would finally have hope of being successful one day.

This was a great pick. Low risk, high reward. He'll sit on the bench this year, but he could challenge for the starting gig next year. -
2017 NFL Draft: Round 2 & 3 Discussion
jrober38 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe. All I know is that EJ isn't the best QB from his draft. He likely won't be in the NFL after preseason ends and the Raiders roll with Carr and Connor Cook as his backup. -
2017 NFL Draft: Round 2 & 3 Discussion
jrober38 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whoops. Contribute was supposed to read compete, so I apologize for my error. We need rookies to compete for jobs this year, and in the coming years as we rebuild. I never meant that we need 10 guys to contribute because obviously that would never happen.
