  1. Have any of the stories/solutions shared by TBDers of overcoming bullies compared to the 18 year old who was compelled to arm himself with a switchblade to defend against bullying from 15/16 year olds? Scalding coffee comes closest if I assume it was pre-meditated.

I suspect this may have occurred in an environment that few of us are familiar with or can relate to.

Regardless, my personal opinion is that the parent of the bully has the greatest influence over preventing bullying.

  2. Sunday was my first time at the stadium since 2000. I'd read a number of horror stories on this board about the crowd behavior and was a bit apprehensive since I'd be with my wife and kids. I saw a few minor things but nothing notable.

On the other hand, I've been to a number of Jets games in the interim and I judge crowd behavior by the number of upper deck fights/brawls. I consider one or two to be a well-behaved crowd. I pretty much expect to see security rushing to the upper rows a few times a game.

  3. Marching bands are the only kind of entertainment I think appropriate, at a football game. And a really good band is a joy to watch. OSU, USC, and most of the big schools have good bands. I was always a fan of the traditionally black college bands, but I haven't seen too many examples, in recent years. Major exceptions are the bands from Florida Southern and Southern University and A&M College (the "Human Jukebox"). I also think Stanford's band is very fun to watch---and, let's face it, completely crazy at times.

Except when one gets freight-trained by a Cal State player :D

  4. they play at Kinnick on 11/4...

They play at every away stadium except Penn State. And are never booed. They play to the home crowd. It's fun.

correct. Of course no one needs a band to sell out a college game. But sometimes .... no matter what happens in the game, the band is always worth it!

Are you an OSU football fan? If so, read on.

My son just entered high school and is in the marching band. I had heard a few years ago that our marching band is head and shoulders above the others in the area. Our football team not so much.

So I go to the first game of the year to see my son play at half-time and this player on the other team (Lindenhurst) just wrecks the game, a man among boys. WR, LB and kicker. Unstoppable. The next morning I pick up the Sunday paper and he's front and center on the high school section...and he's committed to OSU as a tight end. Here's the story:

And if you're interested in a high school marching band that doesn't suck:

  5. No one ever goes to a game just to see a marching band. It adds to the experience yes completely agree, but if they are such a draw they would sell out stadiums when they have college band competitions.(they don't)

Also highly unlikely anyone who is a football fan cares about a college band unless they are fans of, alumni, or go to that college.

Don't believe me? Try having the Ohio State Band play at halftime at Kinnick Stadium someday. The boos would rain allllllllll day.

Nobody ever said a marching band would sell out a stadium. I believe OP was saying he's been to games where the marching band was great but the home team wasn't that day.

I guess I'm the highly unlikely anyone who is a Bills fan with zero ties to OSU that saw the video I linked to above and was impressed and cares enough to check out their performances on youtube.

The Kinnick Stadium comment was just silly.

  6.

Oh, here we go with the guy with the Bills tattoos who paints his nipples red and blue every Sunday, even when it isn't football season.

Yes. I'm still a fan of the team. I just know they suck this year, as they have sucked for the last 16 years prior. That doesn't make me less of a fan. It just makes me a person who calls it like it is.

I've been a Mets fan since 1983 and guess what ... they !@#$ing suck, too. But I watch 162 games/year, regardless.

Being a fan means that you stay loyal and don't dump the team, even when they suck. Kind of like unconditional love IN REAL !@#$ING LIFE.

It doesn't mean that you say they're good even when they're not.

Don't leave that hair dye in too long. It'll stay that way.

I'm a Mets fan too...sucks but I have vague memories of 1969 and GREAT memories of Seaver.

My reply was to your statement:

"I honestly don't care. I'm just glad we lost that pathetic game. One game closer to a better draft pick and getting rid of a crap QB. How's that for analysis?"

I do care, I suspect you do too. I get your point about the draft pick but:

Will you root for the Bills this Sunday at New Era?

  7. Can we all agree that if you have 3 points with under a minute that you simply don't deserve to win a football game?

This pass/catch wasn't the reason we lost.

That's one take and while I agree whole-heartedly that one play rarely makes/breaks a game, another take might be "Can we all agree that if you only gave up 9 points on the road with under a minute that you should expect (not going with deserve) to win a game?

So no, I don't agree with your premise that the number of points you've scored with a minute left in the game determines whether you "deserve" to win the game.
