I seriously doubt he'd do that. I read recently that they plan on playing Dominic Smith in the outfield a few times a week. Speculation was to make room for Alonso at first.

If you recall,Evans played some innings in ST on that side of the infield..instead of keeping him on the roster,he's dumped back down so they can keep Reyes safe....not a chance in heck he wouldn't clear waivers. ..meaning there is no risk.
First off, thanks.
So I got back from the 6th grade concert tonight around 8 and saw a text from my friend complaining about Reyes and his .132 batting average. I shot him down asking how many at bats and making the point he's the 25th man and no more than an insurance policy for Rosario.
Then I saw the game highlights and one of his two errors. He has never shown a feel for third base and they obviously have no trust in him in the outfield. And you're right about no risk clearing waivers. Plus they've started Guillorme over Reyes against righties. I owe my friend an apology.

I was thinking William Devane. Maybe, maybe not but one thing is clear to me. Whoever it looks like pees standing up.

Some thoughts on Bautista:
- he's a player I've disliked from afar for awhile. I only know what I've seen and heard from highlights and headlines but he seems like a jerk
- he did nothing with the Braves
- Flores has shown consistently that he is not an every day player. He crushes lefties but is a liability in the field.
- Bautista's redeeming qualities are that he bats right and plays LF and 3B and he used to be a power hitter
Conclusion: I'm worried about the Cespedes injury and to a lesser extent Frazier's. This looks like a low risk attempt to catch lightning in a bottle...with a low probability of success.

I agree about instant reply...but only up to a point. I just want them to be able to correct the obvious mistake. The rest just takes away from the game for me. 100% agree on balls and strikes and the human aspect of umping.

Do you REALLY believe that an NHL expansion teams success has any relevance to what happened at that school today?

Great point. The human side...I like it, could be a factor. I had no idea about Frazier. All too often we look at these players as faceless automatons. The analytic geeks are probably good at the long term trends and probabilities but short term a managers judgement is equally important IMO.
But I still want more HR's from Bruce

Jay Bruce needs to go a run. Can't will it to happen but as my Dad would've said: He's due.

Very cool. I heard nothing but Yanny in the original. Check out this link where they play it at different pitches:
https://www.cnn.com/videos/cnnmoney/2018/05/16/laurel-yanny-pitch-zw-orig.cnn
My wife, son and I just listened to the different pitches. My son heard nothing but Yanny the whole time. My wife and I heard both depending on the pitch. But for the most part she heard Laurel when I heard Yanny.

I'm not an X's and O's guy, but I also remember the delayed hand-offs (counters?) that always seemed to work.
-
I remember Flutie tossing him a lateral downfield for some extra yardage at my first ever game at the Ralph.
BTW, not sure if it was mentioned but Happy Birthday Thurman! I found out earlier today that he and my eldest son were both born on May 16.

How much credit does Boone deserve?
It’s impossible to say. Do the Yankees go 17-1 in these 18 games with Joe Girardi? Almost certainly not, and I say that only because I believe if you change one little thing, the results would be different, and the Yankees have been so good lately that any change would make the results worse almost by default. Had Clint Frazier been on the roster instead of David Hale, the Yankees probably wouldn’t go 17-1.
Remember though, the Yankees hired Aaron Boone because of his communication skills, and because they wanted to create a better clubhouse atmosphere. I don’t think they had a bad clubhouse under Girardi, not at all, but communication was a concern and the Yankees took steps to improve it. Boone seems relaxed — you know as well as I that Girardi would’ve been on edge in the dugout last night — and I think players feed off that. The current manager projects calm.
Ultimately, Boone is the manager and the buck stops with him. When the Yankees got off to a slow start, people were already questioning his hire. Now that they’re kicking butt, he’s getting credit. Boone obviously deserves some credit. How much is up for debate. Talent reigns surprise. You can’t win without talent. But is it possible Boone’s clubhouse skills, the clubhouse skills the Yankees invested in, are taking that talent to another level?
IMO Torre's greatest skill as a manager with the Yankees was his ability to manage the clubhouse (and press) not the game. Always hard to find the line between a good/bad manager and the talent he's working with. The talent that's been handed to Boone is remarkable but I give him credit for weathering a slow start in a hyper-critical market. And at this point it's hard to argue with anything Cashman does with the team.
BTW, I hate the Yankees, they are no fun to watch for me. Lets Go Mets!

I like boring. It generates no headlines. It's humble. It's very Belichick like to be boring at press conferences. The animated ones, the Rex's, the Herm Edwards, the guys with more boisterous press conferences don't seem to last...or win.
Jimmy Johnson begs to differ.
Which isn't to say I'm advocating that style. The problem with Rex wasn't his mouth, it was his inability to back it up (i.e. - coach).
McD is boring and sticks to the script. Doesn't bother me as long as he's getting as much as possible out of the team.

Referees....
had to say it, looks at the 17 year drought and this year.
The main difference is we got the breaks.
The fumble in ATL, 100% incomplete pass any other year imo. Won them that game.
The Von Miller Penalty, really changed that game as well. Never happened in the drought.
The only really terrible calls that I saw was the Benjamin TD, Gronk hit, and the OPI against the jags.
looking back during the past few seasons we could have easily won 2-3 more games just based off terrible calls that went the other way.
Especially rex's first year when we were robbed of 2 tds against the giants and the ridiculous PI in london vs the JAGS. those two games put us in.
I dont think the NFL really liked Rex as he had terrible luck with calls. The NFL has never been a fan of Big personalities imo.
The Von Miller penalty was a big break for sure, made it that much easier to close the game out, but game changer? As I recall there were some questionable calls against the Bills in the first half. Siemien's interceptions were the game changers that day IMO.
The difference last year was getting in with only 9 wins. Right off the bat that takes some degree of good fortune. And it was capped off by Dalton to Boyd.

Fun fact: Marcus Stroman and Steven Matz once squared off in a high school game that ended 1-0. Too bad we're not getting a rematch.

6 minutes ago, Misterbluesky said:Not sure what I think about this...he was groomed to be a power hitter and had just a few dingers out west in that dry air. I wonder if he was told to lose weight because of his leg issues? On a positive note..his double bag numbers were up...I really think he might always be a challenge to figure out...maturity is the key with him imo. I see the Mets inner circle didn't move Alonso up to replace him in LV....I find that to be odd. Anyway..I'm screwed for the weekend, the next to starts are PIX games..so it's only SNY early morning replays for me.
WRT D. Smith, you're more dialed in to the minors than I am. But my understanding was that he wasn't projected as a power hitter.
My thoughts on him are superficial. When he came up last year I took one look at his face and saw an out of condition young player. To me he looked like a guy that needed a nap.
Today I saw a more conditioned player. I'll remain skeptical but hopeful. Today its arrow up for me.

Huge. Conforto may be breaking out.
And despite only 5 innings pitched, Matz pitched well. SNY just showed 5th inning replays. Mets blew a DP ball, old man A-Gon couldn't get to a pop foul and Matz was behind 3-0 on Santana with the bases loaded. 0 runs scored. That set the stage for later.

A-Gon hasn't exactly cemented himself at first. He's just up for the weekend but hopefully he's putting himself in position for a mid-season call-up.
