  1. Congratulations on the house closing. That's a life event.

You can run down to any Walmart, or Target and get an "HD TV antenna." And it doesn't need to be sophisticated or costly.

I used this $9 antenna for six months, no problem. You may have to experiment, point it in different directions.

Aside: HDTV and "cord cutting" would be a good pinned topic in the Consumer Digest forum.

  2. I'm not paying.

$3.. price is entirely acceptable. But the last thing I need in life is another auto-recurring charge on my credit card.

Caveat: I didn't try the registration process, but I imagine the only option is "bill me until canceled"

^^^ This. While digital subscriptions to the BN may or may not work, the demise of the BN is wishful thinking by some posters here.

Yeah. Warren Buffett/Berkshire Hathaway doesn't own slouch companies.

  3. The protocol phases, for those who don't know it:

    1. Rest and recovery: Until a player returns to the "baseline level of signs and symptoms and neurological examination," only limited stretching and balance activities are recommended. Electronics, social media and team meetings are all to be avoided.
    2. Light aerobic exercise: The NFL recommends 10-20 minutes on a stationary bike or treadmill without resistance training or weight training. The cardiovascular activity is monitored by an athletic trainer to "determine if there are any recurrent concussion signs or symptoms."
    3. Continued aerobic exercise and introduction of strength training: Increased duration and intensity of aerobic exercise with strength training added. An athletic trainer will supervise to watch for recurrent concussions signs or symptoms.
    4. Football specific activities: The cognitive load of playing football will be added and players will participate in non-contact activities for the typical duration of a full practice.
    5. Full football activity/clearance: A player returns to full participation in practice, including contact without restriction.

Looks like Tyrod did Step 4 today. If concussion symptoms don't return after non-contact practice, he can return to playing.

  4.

Totally agree with 1 and 2.

I do, however, think that letting someone go for nothing - when something can be had - is bad business. This is a business and the Bills don't owe him squat.

I have nothing against Boldin and - as I stated earlier - he did/is doing the smart thing.

But Beane would be crazy, IMO, to release him and get nothing in return.

    That.

If Beane did release Boldin without comp, he would forever in the future be putty in the hand during trade talks with other GMs. They'd think Beane was just a patsy.

Also Beane's bargaining with free agents would be have friction as they think they could have their way with him.

People who want to release Boldin no-strings because of his stature need to go back to Madden 2005.

    Adam Schefter says:

QB salary market being reset, good news for Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins. QB salaries about to skyrocket.

135 mil for 5 years, 27 mil a season for a QB that:

In addition to his 0-3 playoff record, Stafford has gone just 51-58 in his 109 regular season starts although he’s 27-21 over the past three seasons.

Ya think.. with these economics, that tanking and getting a hot rookie QB sounds good? I'm starting to think so. As in, getting a good rookie contract for five years is better than paying bug bucks to mediocre veteran QBs?

Aside: whoever does contracts in Detroit is worse than ole Overdorf.. and the entire league ownership is angry at him/her.

  6. I have severe sleep apnea so I never sleep , so I'm looking through old Bills teams of the 2000s and I'm past the point of being cynical and always complaining . We have way more talent on our roster 1-53 than we usually did throughout the drought.

I'm a buffalonian and I have been all my life except for stints of college. I love the city and I love the Bills more than a lot of things in life. I don't know how many buffalonians or transplants we have here but it is a special city and community, despite the stereotypes and the Bills are very important.

I'm just glad that we are in Buffalo forever, just like my father always assured me we would be. And we will be winners one day guys... one day soon

    I Billieve

Dude.. they got this thing called CPAP. You gotta try it.

Love your Billieve ... and it is not misplaced. Terry and Kim will get 'er done within the next 3 years. Maybe 2.

  7. I disagree with the popular sentiment on this board--that packaging picks to draft a "franchise" QB is the way forward.

McD and Bean have shown they value the draft to acquire talent. They loves some draft picks. They'll draft a QB with a pick if they like him, but they aren't going to package picks to move up to select a particular person. It's not how they roll, IMO.

The future is indeed bright -= IF =- Bean and McD are good draft day operators.

  8. This doesn't make financial sense. They cost of staffing, hangering and maintaining 20 year old jets is humongous. It far exceeds the savings on 10 or so team trips per year, and occasional offset from a rental to a New England scoundrel with too much money on their hands. Two planes?? Forget about it...

If the Seahawks, in Boeing's backyard, in a town awash with tech money couldn't make it work, I kind of doubt the Patsies will either.

Having said that: maybe 10 road NFL games (incl pre-season) plus 40 to 50 Sabres road trips, I could maybe see this working for Pegula Sports and Entertainment. (I know there will be sched. conflicts) Though, more in the format of a 737, in a 2+2 aisle formation.

LOL... put them on a C-130 with a seat pallet.

  9. An article, with many sources links within. Most recent link: Sen. Lankford touting a bill to kill stadium construction tax credits.

    From Sen. Lankford:

The federal government is responsible for a lot of important functions, but financing sports stadiums for multi-million—sometimes billion—dollar franchises is definitely not one of them,” said Lankford. “Using billions of federal taxpayer dollars for the subsidization of private stadiums when we have real infrastructure needs in our country is not a good way to prioritize a limited amount of funds. I’m pleased to work with Senator Cory Booker to introduce this bill to eliminate the use of federal tax-exempt bonds for sports stadiums. Everyone likes free federal money to build their expensive stadiums, but with $20 trillion in federal debt, this is waste that needs to be eliminated.”

This bill is being advertised as bipartisan. I can easily see this being signed into law. Why? Because most of the 32 teams have built their signature palaces, so there is little political risk for the Senate in prohibiting future funding (as Fed. tax breaks) for stadiums. Everyone has their palace stadium, except Buffalo.. and whomever else.

Loss of Fed. tax credits associated with a new stadium could be a gift, or a kick in the teeth for WNY.

    A gift:

    • because local tax payers wouldn't be crushed by the debt of new stadium
    • the NFL owners would back off of their insistence of a new Bills stadium

Or, a kick in the teeth:

    • NFL owners continue their insistence on a new Buffalo stadium; when Buffalo can't come through due to loss of Fed. tax credits, NFL future actions** would make the Bills uncompetitive financially, thus uncompetitive on the field, starting a chain of events forcing the them to move

    Thoughts?

    --------------------

** I don't know what the owners would do to penalize Bflo, but creativity driven by greed knows no bounds

  10. Didn't they just do that about a year ago?

Sort of. The Ralph is sporting a tie now. Unfortunately it's a clip on, compared to other stadiums.

The Ralph has good bones. Build around those bones a bit and save the taxpayer some bucks compared to a new downtown palace.

Pegs should do just enough enhancement to show the other owners that he tried. Show his league partners he's a team player ... yet not break the local bank.
