C´Mon Ford Family and the hairy Patricia...make your pick, otherwise I can´t go and have a beer, unless you pick after 8:00 PM (EST...I assume....)

I meant...go OUT and have a beer, because I have a big case in the freezer at home now,...

With the 4th pick in the draft the Cleveland Browns select Baker Mayfield. QB OU. The Broncos and @Canadian Bills Fan are on the clock.

Mayfield was my #1 from the start. I was hoping the Giants would take the Darnold bait and the Jets with Rosen. But I will stick to my guns.  Not anything against Darnold, but with Tyrod as my QB I want a guy that can start early if need be. I'm not convinced Darnold can. His turnovers are potentially fatal for a team that may be in a lot of close games. The history of Darnold and his fumbles worry me, especially for a cold weather team that will aspire to host playoff games in the future.

"I'd love that," Mayfield said of potentially being selected by the Browns. "First things first, they'd get a winner. If anybody's gonna turn that franchise around, it'd be me. I'd be able to put it in the right direction."

We talk about his intensity fitting here in Buffalo... Cleveland is much the same.

Does Mayfield act immature at times? Sure. But he's got a guy in the QB room that love or hate is by all praised as being a consummate professional. Hard working and dedicated. I think he could mature under Taylor.

    I see a QB controversy coming soon....

With the 1st selection, the Cleveland Browns select Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State The Giants @whatdrought are on the clock

I am fully ready for and expecting the verbal backlash on this one. I know, I know "A RB at 1... TERRIBLE". "Cleveland wouldn't do that". The Mock Mel Kipers are going to spaz. I fully get it. And I agree.

If there were trades, pick here absolutely would have been a QB. Can't take the chance of losing this guy to the Giants. A backfield with Barkley and Hyde with TT and his running ability make my new ground game potentially deadly. Having Hyde lessens the workload for Barkley and delays that Rookie Wall that happens so often. Unlike past Browns regimes...I have a plan!

I get your pick! I agree that Saquon won´t make it pass NYG if they can´t trade their pick.

Let’s make this a 2 Round Draft. Who else is in?

Bengals are in for  2 rounds! hell! let´s make it 3 rounds , I will steal every pick Buffalo wants, despite them having tons of picks for not f***ing up with trades!

btw. Virgil, thanks for sneaking me in, and specially for assigning me my new 2nd favorite team thanks to their red riffle!

If capped contracts on rookies, specifically QBs weren't in place, do you think this many would be going in the first round this year?  We've seen teams that have had success with QBs on rookie contracts take advantage of their low cap number and load up on talent in other areas.  Before if a team made a mistake at QB in RD #1 it would set them back years, from a cap perspective.  It's a copy-cat league and these teams want to get away with having control of a QB for 4-5 years with a bargain cap number.  Not that I disagree with this philosophy, but I think we're seeing a false rise up the boards of these QBs, potentially due the positive financial implications if you're lucky enough to hit on a starter.    I hope they'er lucky enough to find one of the 1-2 guys that will actually pan out.  I think this crop of QBs would be spread between rounds 1-3, if not the precedent that's starting to show itself.  We need to dodge the fools gold, and if we can't get QB they're 100% confident in, draft BPA.  Stud players in other positions are dropping due to the false inflation of some guys that in other drafts that would be lucky to be picked before the second round.  I know some of you think we should sell the farm no matter what.  But what if the talent this year doesn't justify it?  Just an FYI, when the eagles drafted Wentz, they did so because all their scouts and consultants indicated the QB crop from college was progressively going to get worse.  This is due to running gimmicky offenses, always being shotgun, emphasis on the screen game and defensive looks.  I think it's harder now than ever to know if a QB with translate into the pro game.  Buyer beware.

*League rank of starting QB cap hit for protected starters in 2018. (From PFT.com)

    23. Mitch Trubisky: $7.258 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 2 pick.

    24. Jared Goff: $6.984 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2016, as the No. 1 pick.

    25. Carson Wentz: $6.669 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2016, as the No. 2 pick.

    26. Jameis Winston: $6.337 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2015, as the No. 1 pick.

    27. Marcus Mariota: $6.053 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2015, as the No. 2 pick.

    28. Patrick Mahomes: $4.1 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 10 pick.

    29. Deshaun Watson: $3.463 million. Slotted rookie deal from 2017, as the No. 12 pick.

    30. Dak Prescott: $680,000. By rule, he can’t sign a new deal until after 2018.

*The list doesn’t include 32 quarterbacks, given the possibility that one or more rookie quarterbacks will be Week One starters.

Great post! the financial factor, nobody seemed having in  mind in the dozens of threads about the draft...YouAreDaMan!!

It's just the same repetitive BS from the same hillbilly inbreds. Rosen or Mayfield, Rosen or Mayfield... I'm tired of it. We can't even discuss other prospects in the draft.

God forbid we talk about other prospects in the draft.

Please take a deeeeeep breath and come back looking for some fun!:P

Well if you read the article or some of the posts here you'd see that NO ONE, including the people who wrote the art I cle, thinks there's an1-1 correlation.

I missed all of that. Scapulars? I'll have to come here more often.

As for Meanie's post, I do think the pros are several steps ahead of us when it comes to guessing. The problem in the qb department is that if your team needs a qb, you have to take chances on guys.  On a Losman, an Edwards, a Manuel.  You have take someone.

The simple fact is that it appears that there are only ten or twelve guys on the planet who can really master the position and there are 32 teams looking for QB's.  So they take guys hoping they're own evaluation turns to be wrong.

Shaw66, the post you´seemed to have kinda´miss, ia titled something like: ´¨J McCarron is my Favorite QB, because I am  my Mama son....¨ or close...;)

Dingus made a really good post.

I may have made it different in my memory but he basically pointed out that they key factor will be how these guys work at their craft once they are here. Can they take the heat? Do they listen and learn, do they keep at it?

They are very hard to separate on qualifications. They have have different strengths and weaknesses but these guys are all shaking out as pretty much the same overall in terms of how they rank. You can't know what will happen.

But if you look at their personal qualities to see who has a track record of working and focusing and coping with the public and the press and all that, then you have a big advantage in predicting what will happen in the NFL.

That being said I do wonder if somebody took all of the main measures like this Q thingy and the rest, and combined them, if it would turn out to be useful.

Most of all what I get out of all of this is fear! :)

Because when I think of any other profession or business I can't  think of one where a regular fan or hobbyist can have a good chance to beat the combined expertise of the industry in picking the direction of THE mission critical choice.

So to say if me and Bumbles get together and design a self landing rocket in our spare time that is just as good as Elon Musk's Maybe a little better.

Or we figure out a viable way for surgeons to to repair an area of the brain.

And Shaw and HaplessBillsFan design a cool new electric car engine just as good as Toyota's is.

You get the picture. The NFL is doing their best but really they are almost as close to guessing as we are. The difference between what they can come up with and what can come up with isn't very big. It isn't like my rocket idea versus Musk's. I hope the Bills guess right!

Wow man! just wow! if your post about AJ McC, scapulars and all those beliefs in catholicism, weren't enough to make you a hero to me, this analogies amog careers / industries have just pushed the envelope!! thanks or a well thought post again!

I honestly think we'll be fine. Taylor didn't do those guys any favors. I know a lot of people think that its the other way around, but many of our WR's have gone on to other teams and produced a lot more with better QB's (Woods, Goodwin, Hogan, etc).

I'm excited to see what these guys can do with a better passer.

We've never valued them enough to give them a QB that will throw to them. Hopefully that changes this year.

MJS, even myself being a T2 supporter while he was here, I am a glad +1 to your (bold) comment! Thanks for bringing  good insights!

Given the price paid by the Jets (which was too much IMHO),  just including draft picks from this year is never going to clinch it in a trade-up with the Giants. Clearly the sticking point will be the inclusion of next year's #1. I am wondering if a trade like this will get the job done.

    Bills trade #12, #22, # 53, #56, next year's #1 and Jerry Hughes  for #2, and OBJ.

Giants get a replacement for JPP. And anyway, they are shopping OBJ. By trading him to the Bills, they at least keep him out of the NFC. Bills, besides getting their QB of the future (not named Darnold)  make up for their loss of extra draft capital by instantly turning their wideout weakness into strength with OBJ. With the abundance of cap space next year, they can easily structure an OBJ extension. And given OBJ's price, it is not like they have a steal going forward with him. It is not like the last four years. It gives them considerable Cap breathing room as well.

OBJ, is a Randy Moss, in his early troublesome years + the injuries...pass! ....

For McDermott to call what Zay did a "unfortunate situation" and "our plan is for Zay to continue to remain a Bill",

at the same time not addressing the WR and TE positions at all since the season ended is very mystifying,

because whatever QB is throwing the ball, needs weapons to throw to, and unfortunately we may just have

this situation be the worse in the NFL. I also recall Clay not being sound enough to practice much, Benjamins

surgery, Zay and really nothing else also of NFL quality.

wow! Foreigner...I really like your songs...however you seem to have a very dark view of our future!! btw, what day is today, that makes you talk about our WR corps like this is how we will start the season??
