  1. This was a terrible move,  all we need is to hand the Chiefs to have the next Hill.  Just a stupid move and only got a 3rd and gave up a 4th.  Big deal if you helped you biggest rival add another explosive receiver.   Deflating and Beane is all talk,  he screwed this team with stupid contracts to older guys and tonight he hands Fastest player in the draft to KC

Counterpoint is Beane left room in Josh’s and Miller’s restructure to cover Aiyuk’s $14m if he wanted to.  And Beane has historically operated that way where he doesn’t clear the cap space until he needs it.  Additionally I doubt San Fran would sell us cap space but trading Aiyuk would put them at $21m under the cap, and it seems like Beane and Lynch spent some time together trying to get the League to change their comp picks.

Why would you eat away all your cap for a receiver that was not even a #1.  Trade up and draft a stud and stop paying big money

  3. As he heads into the fifth and final season of his rookie contract, Aiyuk has made no secret that he wants a long-term contract extension that would put him among the NFL’s highest-paid wide receivers.

Aiyuk is most definitely a #1. He’s improved every single year statistically and just came off a 1300+ yard season on a stacked running team. He’s head & shoulders above Diggs at their stage of careers. I would not complain at all if BUF somehow got him and neither would 90% of posters here.

Impossible that you know that 90% agree with getting this guy,  As he heads into the fifth and final season of his rookie contrac (14mllion this season)t, Aiyuk has made no secret that he wants a long-term contract extension that would put him among the NFL’s highest-paid wide receivers.

Time to get a stud receiver with both size/great speed and on a rookie contract.

I agree with others that said we dumped Diggs to get out of cap hell, so why would the Bills just do this again 🤷‍♂️

Right,  he is a good receiver but he is no superstar. Not interested in these monster cap hit receivers,  just trade up and draft one of the top guys in this draft.  Aiyuk wants 100 million plus

49ers are only trying tp trade him because they know this draft is loaded with receivers and better get a dude on a rookie deal then have to pay one 25 mllion a season. It will cost us draft capital and huge salary cap space.

Just for the record,  the Bills could have drafted Jefferson with there pick they traded to the Viking for Diggs.  Diggs never produced in big playoff games

Unless your getting a superstar then no

I wonder if was more simply that Diggs didn't like Allen getting all the attention and being the face of the franchise.   He felt he should be  getting more credit.  Add to that less targets.

Diggs did next to nothing in playoff games and was a big reason why we lost to the Chiefs with that key drop.

Isn't 31 mil in dead cap a cap nightmare ?

That is the worse part of this,  31 m dead cap and no picks for this season.  Someone said the pick was not available after June 1 and they don't know that because the pick is for next season not this season

  7. End of the day the talent level on this team is not great,  outside of Allen they have no true elite players.  Beane really started making mistakes after 13 secs and handing out big contracts to guys getting older.  That got us into this cap mess,  meanwhile the Chiefs were smart,  after losing to the Bengals they cut ties with Hill who is both younger and better then Diggs.  They never gave in to his contract demands and won 2 Super Bowls since.  I just hope McDermott does not convince Beane to spend high picks on defence and offence struggles for it.

That "crazy" extension was how long ago?  At the time it made sense given his production.

Yes, the Bills will eat the dead cap from Diggs' bonus this year and be completely free of it in '25.  In the meantime, they can pay a rookie WR peanuts.

Then I would combine the first this year and next plus another 3rd next season for a chance at Brian Thomas.  I feel much better knowing Diggs's contract will be off the books next season

  9. End of the day Beane should have traded him before giving that crazy extension

This is an uninformed take.  Diggs' contract is HUGE.  He's 31 and anyone can see how his performance has diminished.  The Bills didn't have to give up anything significant in the '24 draft to make this happen and get them out from under that contract in a year, plus they got an additional piece of draft capital to go and get their guy this year if they want to (and pay him a rookie contract).

I think the trade is a win for the Bills and a "to be determined" for the Texans -- but I understand why Caserio did it.

Are the just taking the cap hit this year and next season start over clean?

The reward you may get for being one of the best college athletes playing in your position is to end up playing for one of the worst coached and managed teams in the NFL. In many instances the best college QB's end up in places destined for failure. So why reward poorly coached and managed teams in this manner? Why do we reward the best college athletes entering the NFL draft in this manner? I get trying to even the playing field. My idea is to make teams work for the rights to the best college athletes. Show that you can coach and manage well enough to give star athletes a chance for success in the NFL. My idea is to give the best team/record to not make the playoffs the 1st pick in the draft and go from best to worst record. Teams on the brink of becoming playoff caliber getting the best college athletes available. Win, win for both the player and team. Playoff teams pick last and still go from best to worst. Stop rewarding perennial bad teams for failure.

Any thoughts on this idea my fellow Bills fans?

The system work fine,  normally teams that are bad and drafting high have fired their HC'S and having an opportunity to draft a top QB offers an incentive to hiring a new and more capable HC. The teams that are bad usually lose because they don't have a QB and enough surrounding talent

Yes they can put McDuffie back out there full time but there was a reason they went the other way last year. I do actually like Jaylen Watson a fair bit who was a 7th rounder the same draft as McDuffie and started in the Eagles Superbowl (he was good that day whereas McDuffie struggled in that game). They have definitely just got weaker at corner though.

As for Taron Johnson Beane absolutely did not overpay. Cam Sutton was the market setter for nickel corners at $11m AAV. Taron > Cam I was guessing $12.5m AAV or thereabouts. To bring Taron in cheaper than Cam was a hell of a deal for the Bills.

, They made the smart move,   why pay Snead crazy money when they already have McDuffie.  The Chiefs keep making smart moves and that is why they have 3 Super bowl wins and were still trying to get there because Beane has overpaid guys.  Diggs has one of the worse contracts in the NFL

Taron Johnson? Are you nuts? He's a terrific bargain. Probably will cost significantly less than half of what Johnson will get.

Johnson is one of our most important defensive players.

Beane has made some questionable moves - everyone does - but overall he's been extremely good.

System player,  Mcdermott plays soft zones.  Not saying he is not a good player,  I just think we gave him too much and I would have let him test the market because our defence sucks in the playoffs every year anyways

Absolutely he was the most influential player on that D other than Jones. It frees up a ton of cap but this is good news for the Bills!

It was a smart move,  they have Trent McDuffie only 24 who already a star and on a rookie controlled contract for the next 2 seasons.  Why pay Sneed,  this is why Beane and the Bills are always in cap jail.  You don't need two lockdown corners and yes Beane overpaid on Johnson

Part of me was kind of surprised. In Haack, I thought they had vet insurance and would look towards the Draft and the market afterwards, depending on how it fell, for a competition.

But locking in his salary and cap hit makes that unlikely now IMO. Though I suppose it's not entirely out of realm of possibility that they land Tory Taylor and just eat the 2m if they do.

Would just seem to be questionable cap management at that point to pay 2m to cut him after the Draft instead of saving 1.25 by cutting him before.

With all those extra picks it would have been a great opportunity to grab a punter with a big leg.

    3 hours ago, TrentEdwardsCheckDownOn4th said:

Martin is not very good.  Bottom of the league in most punting metrics. This is another cap casualty,  we can't upgrade because it's not in the budget.

If I hear anyone say the cap isn't real I'll throw up.

Martin should have been let go and draft a punter,  plenty of big leg guys in this draft

Currently 2025 is -$9.8M and when Von is let go next spring it results in a $8.5M in cap savings.

Diggs contract may get traded.  The trading team gets him for $19.5M with no guaranteed money (no dead cap).

Whether he's cut or traded he saves another $5.1M pre-June and $18.5M post June.  I see a post-June cut.

Josh will restructure $20M more and take his hit down to $40M.

Beane will be in a much better position next spring and going forward.

They need to draft 2 receivers including one in the first round so they can get off of these bad contracts. Diggs is no longer worth #1 money,  this is why I never liked the Johnson extension.  Beanne needs to be careful handing out contracts and I will still be in favour of trading Diggs after June 1 if Beane can move up and grab a top receiver in this draft.

Minimal cap saving of around 1.25m on a cut is now out. Good news is it seems like anyone worrying that Matt Haack was anything but a Camp Leg probably no longer needs to worry.

Not smart move,  not because of his cap hit but because there are guys they could have picked in this draft that and up cost 1 million with much stronger legs.  The special teams were bad because he had a lot of bad line drive kicks that got returned including in the Jets loss
