  1. Whatever happened to the quick kick? It would be Hackett's best call.
  2. I'm not saying this to jinx him or anything (really!), but is anyone else surprised that Tua has made every start so far this season?
  3. Well now I understand why they started Boyle instead of Siemien (a proven mediocre spot start guy): Hackett and Rodgers.
  4. Mechanical failure? Sounded far-fetched when I first heard it, but ... https://www.drive.com.au/news/2018-2021-bentley-continental-gt-and-flying-spur-recalled/ Not sure what year/model of Bentley they were driving. But ... wow. Spend 300K for a car and get this? The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to inconsistent fitment of the fuse box and the electrical harness the A-post lower trim can protrude into the cabin reducing clearance to the accelerator pedal. If the accelerator pedal is fully pressed whilst driving and is unable to return to its resting position, the vehicle will continue to accelerate, even when the driver's foot is removed from the accelerator pedal. "This could increase the risk of losing vehicle control, potentially resulting in a collision and/or serious injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users."
  5. Wouldn't surprise me. I really can't think of any marketing move the NFL has made in this century that didn't turn into a winner.
  6. Imagine the pick plays modern NFL offenses could design around an on-field pole, not to mention the goalpost at the TD line. By the way, I'm glad to see the NFL moving into Friday, even if it's just Black Friday for now. I think there was an implied agreement in the early days: College (and back then High School) had Saturdays. Then college started putting games all over the place, on any day but Sunday. NFL, Friday and Saturday are fair game now. Allows you to get rid of Thursday, which is an abomination.
  7. I defend it because, from my own experience the last couple weeks, it was easy to feed six people for about 60 bucks. And since there's a lot of leftovers, I'd go with 10 people for 70 bucks. This is McDonald's, or these days, maybe less. EDIT: I see the usual eyerolls and laughs from the usual suspects. But so far no one has told me how much THEY spent on Thanksgiving, and what was on THEIR tables. So give me your accounting and if its more than about 8 bucks a person I'll tell you what you're doing wrong. It's a service I provide here. For free.
  8. It simply isn't "expensive" to make Thanksgiving dinner unless you're doing something unusual that most Americans don't do. Again, you can buy a free range Whole Foods turkey for nearly $100. My Butterball was $13. Thanksgiving foods are not elite foods. They are wholesome/relatively cheap foods. I won't argue with you if you want to tell me that the cost of a decent steak dinner for four at a restaurant has shot up in price. Thanksgiving? No.
  9. Well then you guys need to tell me exactly what you're having for Thanksgiving and how much you paid for it. You could, of course, go the full Whole Foods lazy/expensive route and easily spend 4X what I did. https://sporked.com/article/whole-foods-thanksgiving-dinner/#:~:text=The Main%3A Oven Ready Turkey, having an unseen sous chef. But PPP doesn't strike me as having a big Whole Foods vibe.
  10. No, I actually bought those things myself over the course of the last week. Everyone by now should know that the major supermarket chains always offer a coupon deal on turkeys before Thanksgiving. For me, inflation is most evident in the cost of eating out. Thankfully, Thanksgiving dinner at home remains a bargain.
  11. And here's the thing: the Catalan separatists are from the most economically successful area of Spain. They want at least some degree of autonomy, and they don't want to keep sending their tax euros to the poorer regions of Spain. The new government is granting some type of amnesty to the Catalan separatists. Which somehow translates to "tyranny" to some of the posters here? Isn't that the opposite of tyranny, granting someone more autonomy?
  12. I don't know where she's shopping. I was impressed by how cheap everything was. Turkey: with supermarket online coupon, Butterball for 75 cents a pound. 17 pound turkey was about 13 bucks. Other stuff is pretty cheap. Apparently canned cranberry sauce is up. Why does anyone use canned cranberry sauce? I got two pounds of fresh cranberries for about 6 bucks. Just add sugar and water and heat. So much better than the canned stuff. Stuffing? What? Stale bread or store bought mix. Potatoes? What kinds of potatoes are people buying? Maybe 3-4 bucks a pound. Costco pumpkin pie is ridiculously huge for like 7 bucks. Add it all up and you'll easily feed 8 people for maybe 6 bucks apiece. I'm having fewer people this year which means plenty of leftovers to make myself one more dinner and a few sandwiches.
  13. I think that would be the approach when it's 3rd/4th and 1 in the red zone, or maybe within 10 or 5 yards. Hurts would have the ability to run a bootleg/option and burn you if you tried this when the Eagles are at midfield. Nobody wants to give up the 40 yard touchdown.
  14. Except that we can expect any replacement level QB (like the 2 guys they have seem to be) to be significantly better than Zack Wilson. That's how awful he was.
  15. All true. Israel has a demographic problem that includes the outsize influence of ultra-orthodox Jews in their internal politics.
  16. I prefer the NY Times playoff simulator, which now includes in its formula information from betting markets. This effectively factors in things like injuries to key players and expectations of the performance of their backups (think Joe Burrow/Deshaun Watson). Bottom line: to have a good (2 in 3 or better chance) at the playoffs, realistically the Bills need to: - Win out in the division (beat the Pats in Week 17 and the Dolphins in Week 18). This gets easier if the Pats have given up/are playing for draft position, and particularly if the Dolphins are comfortable with playoff seeding and are resting starters. - Beat the Chargers - Win at least one of the three games in which we won't be favored (or will be considered a tossup): Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys. Doable, but still a longshot - right now we sit at about a 25% chance of making the playoffs.
  17. We'll have to see how libertarian he is. Immediately in conflict: his apparent opposition to abortion rights. Where exactly will he stand on free trade vs. protectionism? On Argentina not defaulting?
  18. Matt Schaub is gonna be pissed at that comparison. Matt Cassell too. Even Matt Flynn. Maybe even Matt Barkley. Definitely Matt Moore. And even Matt McGloin will put up a fight.
  19. True. It's actually a great success story, getting to over .500 after 10 games with a QB this bad. https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/joe-starkey/2023/11/20/browns-mike-tomlin-matt-canada-najee-harris-jaylen-warren-diontae-johnson-george-pickens/stories/202311200046 “There’s literally nobody there. I’m so confused.” — Ben Roethlisberger, on the “Footbahlin” podcast, watching the only Pickett pass that traveled at least 20 yards from scrimmage, then watching it land with not a single player from either team close enough to appear on the television screen (likely the result of another miscommunication with Diontae Johnson). This is a disaster. I don’t care if the Steelers beat Jake Browning and the Bengals 12-9 next weekend. I don’t care if they beat the Patriots, Cardinals and Colts and sneak into the playoffs. This season is pointless (almost literally). This offense is a laughingstock.
  20. Are we sure we want the Jets to win? There's something to be said for Miami winning the division easily, securing their seeding in the playoffs, and then resting their starters against us in Week 18.
  21. Sad but true. But a "miracle run" isn't necessary. What is probably necessary is beating our divisional rivals and the fading Chargers, AND winning at least one against the Eagles/Chiefs/Cowboys. Certainly doable, but not much room for error. UPDATE: Right now, the win over the Jets did help a bit - 26% chance of making the playoffs (vs. 19% before that game). Let's say we beat the Pats (should be playing for the #1 pick) and the Dolphins (may be resting starters?) again. Knowing nothing else about results of other games, that raises our chances to 55% - more than I ever would've guessed. Then let's say we beat the Chargers (again, not knowing results of any other game): all the way up to 71%! But what we can't do is go 0-3 against the good teams with something to play for. If we lose to the Eagles, Chiefs, and Cowboys, it would be back down to 10%. Ouch. BUT ... beat the Cowboys at home, lose to the Eagles/Chiefs, beat the Chargers/Pats/Dolphins? ... 63%. So that's the route to the playoffs. - Win our remaining divisional games in Weeks 17 and 18, very possibly against teams with nothing to play for. - Beat the Chargers - Win at least ONE of the Eagles/Chief/Cowboys games - still get a little help. Got all that? (projections all from the NYT playoff simulator)
