  1. Here's one for the older guys. I'm in a bar in NYC in 1987. We see this woman who looks like she's still trying to look hot even though you can see she has a ton of wear on the tires. I said to one of my friends that she's trying to look like Joey Heatherton (my friend didn't even know who I was talking about - we were 25 at the time). A minute or two later, the guys next to me, not hearing me or anything, said You know that woman is Joey Heatherton.

We ended up talking to her for a little bit but it didn't seem like the lights were totally on........A few months later or so, she was busted for coke!

  2. She's 84 getting pedicures and manicures. She doesn't need my help. It's the 30,40,50,60 somethings that want to be in that situation at the age of 84 that need my help. And I'm happy to oblige.

Tell them to become teachers. She didn't become wealthy, but she did get a good pension!

She actually went back to teaching after 20 years or so of raising us, just to get her pension back to the level it is. So, she did earn it.

I'm sure you run into people like me, who in their 20s, didn't put as much in their IRAs, etc. as they could have. Now a few decades later, what I did put in has compounded so much that I'm grateful for that, but also say - Damn, I should have put in double!

  3. Ex-Chef. I only cook for fun now, not for profit. And it is soooooo much better that way.

Oh, got it. Well, I wouldn't tell your clients to put their money in their pillowcases.

My mother is 84 and she's been in assisted living for 3 years. Now, she doesn't care about money at all. She gets manicures and pedicures and tips everybody more than she ever did before.

One of the big signs that she had to go in to assisted living was that she couldn't handle her money anymore. She was doing crazy stuff like mailing in bank statements to the utilities instead of a check. (It was in the right amount though!)

She obviously wasn't too high on the idea, but now says it's the best thing she ever did. It's amazing how friendly and happy all the residents are. So, if you have clients that just can't manage a house anymore, but shouldn't be in a nursing home, I've really become an advocate for these places!

  4. You know it really is a sad story. I work with seniors a lot with their money. They're in a tough spot. CD's paying ****, stock funds too aggressive, bond funds facing a potential bubble. There are a few things to do for them but it's not easy. I had my dad (82) take 50% of his money out of a great bond fund and put it in the bank. What's he making on it? Nothing but we don't have to worry about losing anything and I don't have to take those calls anymore of "Jim, my fund price dropped $.02 per share." :wallbash: Save lots and start early folks or this may be you (not my dad, this guy). I'm in the business of helping people and that picture of that guy broke my heart.

I thought you were a chef???

  5. While you may think he is an :censored: keep in mind he grew up in a very different time period. My Grandmother who also grew up in the depression insisted that I should not go to my grandfather's funeral because I had just started a new job. Her take on it was that having a job and a good reputation with your employer is very important. That generation watched many suffer due to bank failure, unemployment and economic chaos.

He seems like a very decent guy. Hopefully the police find out who did this to him and he is able to get his money back.

I probably shouldn't have called him an asshat, because he does indeed seem like a decent guy, and not all that worried about the money.

I just think that his actions are so stupid, and I can't think of another word. It's just a matter of time before this would happen. Plus, he's losing money by not keeping up with inflation all those years.

And, he must have been born in 1930 or 31, so his memory would only go back to the tail-end of the Depression. Not sure how much that would factor into your thinking..........My mother was born in '26, so she remembers pretty much the whole thing. Yet, she's also heard of FDIC and therefore doesn't keep all her money in her bedroom.

  6. What I normally do when my phone is acting weird is turn it off then back on.... That usually helps with alot of the problems.... I don't know if that will help you or not.... But couldn't hurt to try... It also might need to be updated...

Thanks - I actually did try that. I never turn it off and figured that solves most things on the computer.

But, it didn't work. The only podcast I could get was Adam Carolla, so I went to the message board after I listened to it to comment on the show, and it seems a lot of people were having the problem. His podcast got fixed, which is why I got it, but here was the admin's explanation of what is going on system wide:

Here is the scoop on iTunes issues, I’ll repost this over and over again I’m sure.

I just got word back from our Apple account manager and the problem is that they are migrating some systems and still not 100%. They expect to be good shortly but in the mean time they may have issues with syncing feeds for mobile devices. The PC/Mac based iTunes seems to be working fine. So we are aware and Apple is aware of the problem and they are working on it. This affects many Podcasts not just the #1 Podcast in the world (had to toss that out!).

Anyway, just let me know if and when it stops showing up and I’ll have the nice folks at Apple help us out by doing a manual refresh.

  7. Yeah well did you miss the Bills game 3 weeks ago when he torched us? Oh a lot those honorable mentions happen to be in 2002 when he was a freshman starting QB in the Big 12; you must suck if SI names you Honorable Mention All American as a freshman QB  . Thats cool if you don't watch College football, just don't act like you know what the hell your talking about when it comes to the draft.

I didn't see in that list that he got any higher than honorable mention. You do realize that if you live in Missouri you are going to have heard of him a lot more than somebody who is not in Missouri. He probably was a big deal locally. I vaguely do remember his name from way back then. But, I do have to admit I never watch Missouri football. My bad.

As for the Bills game, I already said I didn't watch that game, before you jumped in. I thought that's what you replied to originally??? Didn't you say then I guess you don't watch college football, either in reply?

When I talk about the draft, I don't talk like I've watched these guys. I usually talk about what I think the Bills need.

  8. Soooooo you have no right thumb?

Only up to where the knuckle should be. And, most of that has skin that was grafted on from my abdomen. When it happened, there was nothing but half a bone sticking out of my hand. They call it degloving, I believe.

  9. I don't know why I'm not able to download current day podcasts into my iphone this week. My desktop itunes account is getting the current shows that I want....Anyone know whey the itunes store won't show today's podcasts on my iphone even though they are obviously up if I have them on my desktop?

  10. I was so cool I could roll a joint even after I broke my thumb and had a splint on it. Try rolling a joint without your thumb. Hell try doing anything without your thumb.

That could be my problem. I have only half a right thumb and I'm right handed......Lost the other half in an industrial accident on a summer job long ago.

  11. That requires some sort of finger dexterity and marijuana has ruined that. For that matter, even picking up a 2 lb bag (weeks supply) is difficult as my muscles have atrophied so much. :censored:

I am seriously so unhandy that I could never roll a joint, even in my pot smoking days.

  12. Try to keep up, this copy/paste bit is fatiguing. It takes most of my energy to load the pipe.

Use rolling papers.......The skewering reference you highlight there was not a joke. I do think that it skewered his already ripe for skewering brain. Like I said, it didn't help.....But, like I said, that was only after Levi said I'm on a crusade after I made my Dean crack to Boys.

I've got to go for now, but let me just say that methinks doth protest too much, Booster.

  13. Dude, don't you remember, it was Chris Gaines who played Flutie; that whole movie where Jessie Ventura had to find out who kidnapped the Tuna. Jennifer Aniston was in it, she was actually a dude and you didn't find out until the end, I think it took place in Jacksonville?

    Dummy.

    2 Thumbs Up!

  14. That is cool then, if you were joking about an event where multiple people died, you should have just said so. I was under the impression you thought the marijuana had an actual impact.

    You thought this was serious?:

My incredibly expert opinion says 12.4%. I'll also give the alcohol poisoning 23.3%, Sarah Palin 0.003% and the fact that he looks like Uncle Fester, only ten times crazier, the rest.

You still haven't tried smoking pot, after The Dean made his excellent pitch to you that you really should?

Or, was this the joke you thought was serious?
