Yeah the Yankees are now willing to pay for their own stadium and I think they have more of a right to ask for help than the Jets. However, the investment of $300 mil for outlying improvements is a lot. It still is better spent than the Jets stadium, in my opinion. Especially considering the Yankees have been more loyal to the state and the city, despite previous threats to move to NJ.
This is much more realistic the proprosals made under Giuliani a few years back.
I still think the current Yankees stadium is good enough, they just needs some rennovations inside and outside the stadium. I think they are giving up too much history by moving. However close that might be.
Again, I am a Yankee-hater, but I am trying to look at this objectively.
*I never meant to say that the Yankees were not building their own stadium, but I believe they want land and outlying improvements that cost significant public money. Therefore the building of the stadium ends up costing significant public money.
I was loose with my language as I lumped together building a stadium with the team's funds with building the stadium, buying the land and adding infrastructure improvements, and for that I apologize. Sorry also in general for the brain-farting and offense that it caused. I have tried to clean up my mess as much as possible.*
